Is this to determine who’s the best Akuma player?

    • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

To be honest an Akuma mirror can never determine the best player just because of how random it can be at times.  I’ve lost mirrors to Akuma players far worse than I because of BS.  Likewise I’ve also beaten Akuma players better than me.

The best rating of an Akuma player is how he does against everyone else.  Right now Infiltration is showing that.

        • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

Because mashing demon on wake up or some other crap like that doesn’t make you a good player.  I’ve had times where the opponent mashed out demon against a dive kick set up designed to beat the demon, but because I was 1 frame off the demon connects and I end up losing.

Was it my fault? Yes, but it wasn’t that the other guy out played me.  It was he mashed out a demon in the wrong situation and got lucky.

Anyone who has played the Akuma mirror enough knows just how random it can be.  Some players hate it because of that.

          • http://www.facebook.com/10stars Robert Brejcak

or he saw your terrible mistimed divekick and did a demon on purpose because he knows how terrible your timing is? If you fuck up a setup and someone else kills you, it’s your fault, and he outplayed you. His strategy was to wake up demon you, your strategy was to avoid it. You failed at executing your strategy, he didnt.

          • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

Um no because you can’t visually tell if it is screwed up or not. It’s one of those things where if you press the button one frame early it doesn’t delay the dive enough.  The scrub was mashing demon every time he could and the one time he got me with it was the one time I screwed up.  As much as the front page heros would like to paint me as someone making excuses getting scrubbed out happens and it especially happens in the Akuma mirror in short sets.

Sorry dude, I know what it looks like when someone carefully thought out a counter to something I did and when he was just a dumbass who got lucky.   He was a dumbass who got lucky that I screwed up.

          • JackWild

Scrubs like to make excuses about losing, go back and read Domination 101 again.

          • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

It ain’t an excuse if you understand why you lost.  Scrubs make excuses like “Oh the character is overpowered!” not “Crap I screwed up, but the other guy was still a moron” Even Filipino Champ has said crap like that. I wish you guys would actually understand what the hell Domination 101 was actually trying to tell you.

But you guys still don’t get that even so, every Akuma player INCLUDING Tokido has called the mirror match up very random. High damage and low health usually makes the margin of error very low and it is possible to die off a single blunder.

PS I’ve beaten Tokido in a FT3, which is half of what I base my statement off of. I am not better than Tokido, but in the mirror match up I can still win.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=705010176 Camilo José Guigni

How do you mash out a demon?

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/DCPNLPE5CN4CZRIG5QI72W24PY killa

No scrub can mash demon. Must’ve been desk trolling you.

          • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

Easy, Press all 5 buttons rapidly.  Or if you know when you will come out of block stun mash jab and then press the final input when you regain control.

          • Fenaris

Mash LP, LK, and HP and tap F or B depending on demon.  Input leniency in SF4 will come in and rip a Demon out of it.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/DCPNLPE5CN4CZRIG5QI72W24PY killa

Just cause you beat someone better 1 time out of 10 doesn’t mean you beat them, and it means they suck, losing to a masher. You suck for falling for the same tricks over and over again. This isn’t marvel! Where are the unblockable set-ups?

        • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

           ……SF4 has unblockables…..

    • http://twitter.com/xobehtef ssssssssssssssssssss

nah bro, mirror match is just one (funky) matchup, not to mention this is only a first to three. this DOES show that tokido is back on form. infiltration is still the best sf4 player in the world and will be until the next batch of tourneys (worldwide) start popping up again. one more sidenote i am not surprised to see tokido take this because think about how many good akumas he must play in tokyo compared to infilitration who is mostly limited to korea and JP netplay.

  • R Skse

    Gouki vs Evil Gouki

  • Singey

It’s stuff like this that makes me think Evo doesn’t do a good job on saying who is the best in the world anymore.

Everyone is too good, anyone could come out on top these days.

    • JasinWalraven

esp since most of the AE matches were held on a friday then finals two days later at the end of the night after everyone is tired. Not smart. Better to have the pools all on friday, then have each games top 64 play to grand finals on the same day (3 games on sat, 3 on  sun)

    • kenja0

Except Evo is the event that matters most. I’m pretty sure there are some people at the Olympics who lost that had a good chance of winning if given another chance, but there isn’t another chance. Many people cave to pressure, many people lose to being read out, not giving their best, not knowing all there is to know.

Daigo lost last year because he didn’t know the Seth, nor Poongko match-up and he caved to pressure when he was losing to another player. He came back and swept the floor with Poongko in a follow-up FT10, too bad he didn’t beat him where it mattered most.

There are a bunch of people who I thought should’ve placed higher, who shouldn’t have gotten as far as they should have, where skill did not overcome match-up. It’s all dependent on luck of position… but coming out on top while catering to the rules of the event that everyone agreed upon is completely justified.

The fact that anyone can come out on top makes the competition that much more stressful, enjoyable, and meaningful, especially when there’s an important title that only one person can achieve. It makes you the MVP- the one everyone strives to be; the one everyone strives to defeat.

      • Bavo Bruylandt

EVO gets you the most publicity, but SBO makes you a legend and winning Topango League will declare you the god among great men. It all has its place.

        • JackWild

EVO also makes you a “beast”.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Marsh/1210398171 Mike Marsh

Then they do a few months later and who cares about the title anymore.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/UN4YNPZLKJMFMYBRXOIX4G5ALA topgunz

What you said is true but Singey is still correct in saying EVO, or any one tournament for that matter, doesn’t necessarily say who the best is, not trying to take anything away from the EVO champions because winning that tourney is no easy feat but IMO a tournament like Topanga League does a pretty good job because everyone plays each other, where as in a double or single elim tourney a lot of luck is involved, a player can’t win on luck alone but  a lot good players didn’t make it out of their brackets or get far because of who they ran into early on in the tourney and then there are players who had relatively easy paths up to  top 32 or so

        • JlHADJOE

You can’t hold a league with 1000 people though. Leagues are great if you’re a known top player, but tournaments allow a relative unknown to break into the scene.

        • Jkzm

Problem with Topanga is that they don’t have nearly 3k registered participants to try and play through.  Imagined if Evolution actually “followed” Topanga’s system, then it would take more then the weekend event to try and retrieve a similar result.

That in itself would be ridiculous, considering how hard it is to already run the tournament smoothly with the format that they already have in place.  Evolution is a fine tournament to test yourself and yes, you don’t always play “the player” however a best out of 3 set up is 100x better then what they throw at SBO with majority of it being FT1 which is the worst format ever.

        • JackWild

Winning a tournament doesn’t make you best overall player, I thought it’s common sense. You’re the best at that tournament, and that tournament only. I think people need to look for the “most consistent” player instead of a big winner.

As it stands, Daigo is the most consistent SF4 EVO tournament player. Dude won 2 SF4 EVOs and always made top 8.

    • spectaa

You’re being a bit naive here. It’s the nature of competition, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. No one has a perfect record.

      • Singey

With so many people at a top player level, I just don’t like tournaments as much as I used to. So many people can compete now and win that it’s hard for me to say who is best in the world.

USA majors are different, considering there’s always the few familiar faces in top 8. But if you win Evo, I don’t like calling the winner the “best”. Not to take away from Infiltration, he clearly deserved it after beating everyone so handily.

Just my personal point of view.

        • JackWild

So you don’t like tournaments with more top players? Typical scrub mentality.

          • Singey

Yes, THAT of all things was my point entirely. Good job, you win the internet.

I liked the rivalries. I liked Justin going against Daigo for the umpteenth time because it was hype to watch. I liked random guys that no one knows about making an appearance.

When they put Playstation All Stars over Latif vs Daigo on stream it blew because I was really interested in that runback.

It’s hard for me to place why I’m losing interest in streams but all I know is that Evo top 8 for AE was boring in comparison to pool play, which shouldn’t be the case.

I keep forgetting how many scumbags troll around SRK.

          • JackWild

A scrub is still a scrub. The instant you said that EVO 2012 AE was boring points to you as being a scrubby retard.

People are being spoiled by the supposed “hype matches”. It is no wonder “hype matches” are being staged these days just to please people who only care about “hype matches”. EVO is not scripted drama, or made for entertainment “reality TV” show with cuts and editing to create artificial “drama” and “hype”.

EVO 2012 was reality, the reality that one player was just leagues above all others and that people can and will be dominated and outplayed. That’s reality, I’m sorry it did not entertain you and I’m sure the winner couldn’t give two flying dicks about your enjoyment. They’re here to win money, a lot of money.

Why they put Playstation All Stars over your favorite run back? Well, it just cause! Cause there are money at stake, just ask Mortal Kombat 9 and Virtual Fighter 5. Both bought their way into stream time. Would they have been streamed without the huge money pot? Maybe? Maybe not? But money talks in the end.

Have you noticed that a lot people are now requesting quality commentary to go along with their fighting game stream watching experience? Don’t we all wish that we can have commentators like UltraDavid, James Chen, Yipes and Seth Killian at every tournament?

Do you remember those who refused to go into EVO main ballroom and stayed at the TV room just SO they can watch the fight with commentary? Geez, I wonder why? Cause it’s more “entertaining”?

            TL;DR

Top players are here to make money, hype matches are not guaranteed, even at top 8 or grand finals. Money rules the world, even at EVO. And a lot of people are likely get bored with no commentary or boring commentary.

          • Singey

I give zero fucks about the drama. I didn’t buy into the Mike vs Jago thing, any of the call outs, and every time Fanatiq opens his mouth I swear I get a little less intelligent.

I don’t even really care about the commentators, give me two guys who aren’t mouth breathing neanderthals and I’m content enough. If not, there’s a mute button.

Money is everything, I understand. I can still be disappointed if I didn’t get to see a match I was looking forward to.

I honestly don’t know where you’re getting your argument from. I didn’t say anything about money or people playing so they get paid.

I also said that Infiltration beat everyone without losing a game. He won, he deserved it, he outplayed everyone blah blah blah. I have my opinion on what I enjoy watching, that doesn’t make me a scrub. Makes you a jackass who thinks his word is fact.

Get whatever stick out of your ass and stop finding imaginary points I never even touched on. Then, if you have something constructive to add other than “scrubby retard lulz” go ahead.

    • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

As I was just saying above, Akuma mirrors are a poor indicator of skill because the match up is incredibly random.  Yea the better Akuma player may come out on top more often, but even average Akuma players will win more than a couple matches because a single Ultra or one solid hit can win the round.

      • http://www.facebook.com/dugg.gorman Dugg Gorman

“I’m judging this based off the excuses I have made for my own losses.”

        • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

I am judging this off a crap ton of experience playing the match up and beating names like Four Wude and Tokido in the mirror match.   I don’t consider myself better than them because they are consistent in match ups I am not, but the nature of the match up is that you can lose off a single mistake or random gimmick. When combos are doing 35% meterless and Ultras can knock off 62% of your health it is easy to get a random hit in.

Again every Akuma player knows just how random the match up can be.

    • dub bud

To be fair Infiltration has been doing consistently well in tournaments this year, so it’s still a fairly good indicator.

This was just a casual FT3 which he lost by 1 game. That’s less telling than winning a bunch of tournaments.

    • Fenaris

A single tournament never establishes the best in the world.  There are too many factors that can skew results in a single tournament.

Consistent high performance can establish the best players in the world.  Beyond that, it’s simply an opinion who the best is right now.

  • Gailim

aww man, Akuma v Akuma and only one demon lands the whole match? and its not infiltration?

what happened to the “raging demon button” he had at evo?

    • http://twitter.com/LoyalSol Troy Loeffler

In the akuma mirror when both Akuma players are running U1 you can’t throw out demon 95% of the time because the other person can cancel into demon and beat yours. So typical demon shenangans don’t work. Usually you see it as a teleport punish, but as you see neither were teleporting because they knew they would get blown up for it.

infiltration was stalking and punishing teleports. There was a few times where inf tried to punish a crossover but his move whiffed. WHY!? Tokido saw that whif and was baiting it out on purpose.

  • http://twitter.com/iamgeorgepastor George Pastor

It’s like watching Dive Kick… except with fireballs

    • madveks

      Exactly what I was thinking.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Eller/100000115832735 David Eller

Tokido uses okizime to make Infiltration guess and lose the first two games, though I feel that Infiltration sandbagged these to download his footsies game. Then Infiltration applied his knowledge of Tokido’s footsies and habits to beat him in the footsies game the second two games. And in the final game it seems both players utilized knowledge of the mirror match against eachother, but Tokido managed to win the first round by baiting Ultra 1 in a fashion where he could respond with Ultra 1. And in the final round Tokido intentionally played to Infiltration’s habits by taking air fireballs and recovering safely where he could respond to Infiltration’s conservative wakeup pressure (within the timeframe of a tech-able knockdown) and get a couple untechable knockdowns (sweeps) to force Infiltration to guess on wakeup and lose to his okizime strategy again.

Proving that Infiltration only needs to download his opponent enough to get an untechable knockdown, because after that its all about flipping a coin against Tokido.

    Bravo

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexander-Baughman/100003658407796 Alexander Baughman

I hope people aren’t surprised by this.  Just like when Poongko beat the hell out of Daigo at Evo I already knew that Poongko was still the worse player and would lose in a longer set, regardless of all the idiots who instantly assumed that Poongko was better than Daigo.  Infiltration is really good, and excels in an environment where his opponent doesn’t have a really long time to download him.  He’s one of the best players in the world and his tournament results show that, but definitely not THE absolute best over all and would probably lose long sets to a number of players out there.  People are so quick to assume that you losing in a best of 2 automatically makes you worse than the other player, which is hardly the case.  You could be the best player in the world, play your best and still lose simply because a big part of fighting games revolves around assumptions and guesses about how your opponent is going to play.

  • http://twitter.com/chubbypillow Chubbypillow

Infiltration missed a lot of  punish opportunities against Tokido’s missed demon flips. Guess he was just nervous.

    • http://twitter.com/Thraphelga le sun

tokido delayed a lot of demonflips with dive kick options on the cross-up instead of the usual punch, you see infiltration whiff a crouching normal expecting the earlier landing, not so much him missing punish opportunity as much as taking tokido’s bait.

mmmm, watching a raging demon get raging demoned. What more could you ask for from two high level Akuma players?

  • KubikiriTurkojin

wow, how can a mirror match spawn so many retarded ass srk comments? thats what im wondering personally.

  • Zonder88

So here I see an epic match between 2 of the best Akuma players in the world, and what do I see in the comments?

Some idiotic internet tough guy acting like he knows everything about Akuma making up dumbass excuses on behalf of Infiltration’s loss, then replies with “scrub scrub you dont go to events, I do” on the internet like it means shit.

Then some idiot acts like winning Evo (the most stacked competition) dont means shit compared to typical majors with the same top 8 (due to LESS competition) because the Evo winner always “get blown up” later. I’m not even bother stating how wrong this is. Spectaa summed it up already in 1 line.

Then you got the typical idiots who calls everyone “dickriders”.

SRK, this is what you’re become.
