Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – Opening Cinematic, World Tekken Federation Online and Customization Trailers, Bonus Collaboration Costumes, and More

A huge batch of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 information has been released in recent days, including the opening cinematic, a couple of trailers, and images of bonus costumes for the game that have been designed by a few famous manga and anime artists.

First off, the opening sets the stage for the game’s story, introducing a variety of characters in an effort to get players ready for the next chapter in the Tekken saga. From this video alone, it’s evident that Namco Bandai is working to make this the most definitive Tekken experience yet, with a wide array of both classic and fan favorite characters from every corner of the series’ universe.

Next, a new trailer showcasing the game’s online modes was released earlier this morning, which include the usual trappings like player matches, ranked matches, and replays. They’re set to make the online experience a fun one for both grizzled competitive veterans and new players jumping into the game for the first time. Also, the World Tekken Federation system will allow players to set up their own personal player card, complete with stats, leaderboard placings, and team creation.

Another report this morning, this time from Famitsu, reveals that there will be a number of bonus costumes included in the game that have been designed by a few famous artists who have contributed their skills to manga, anime, and other video games. The complete list has been included below, as well as the corresponding images, screenshots of them in action, some customization items, special character select images, and a new trailer that shows off the game’s customization options.

Make them a custom item for everyone… you will never see anyone’s eyes again!

      • KilsanZ

        Exactly

    • tanjil

I’d shed tears of joy if they made a proper kamina, guess it would work best on jin. And if they had a voice over where we could hear his epic cheesy lines before a match I would never skip an intro

    • MashingRandomButtons

That Anna’s squid outfit alone is going to sell for some people, still graphics wise it doesn’t compare to DOA5 though TT2 still makes any Street Fighter game look terrible.

Giant demon from hell crawls out of the arena floor, spitting fire and energy beams. The crowd cheers instead of panicking for their lives.

    Ok.

    • EA575

Maybe they think it’s part of the match =/

    • RLT4LIFE

Giant demons with snake arms, angels, lasers.

All just another day in Japan.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RVTCDH7KD4LOBP22XNRB2J56TM Sean O'donovan

I would. Especially if I was Japanese, they see that kind of shit like every few months.

    • RollenceElloydChiusinco

that would have been a sublime moment to go into the whole WE ARE TEKKEN slogan.

  • Disco-lemonade

Holy shit, that opening cinematic. I cannot handle.

Then go home and be a family man.

  • Aiddon

Tekken’s guest costumes never have been very good. Anna’s in particular looks…yeah. Then again considering the issues Oh Great has with women I shouldn’t be surprised.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Archer/747006074 Justin Archer

All I really understood from that was, “I’m over opinionated so I can’t appreciate free stuff.”

      • http://twitter.com/ironermac Eliemanuel Roman

I know, how dare they give me free alternate costumes.

        • http://twitter.com/HooliganCombo James Reilly

I know right? People should take a dump inside your game as well. Consider it a “free” bonus with your game

I appreciate the work that they do for aesthetics, but don’t use the logic that if its free it MUST be good

          • WeirdingWay

Exactly. Use your resources on other things to improve the game for free if you can’t do it right with costumes.

          • http://twitter.com/ironermac Eliemanuel Roman

Wow, I don’t think you should take it to such an extreme.

I didn’t really like most of the exclusive costumes from Tekken 6, and I don’t like the bikini pack.

But even if it was possible for Namco to do something else, we don’t know about it.

So I don’t assume something free is good, I just appreciate it for appreciation’s sake. You know what I mean?

      • http://twitter.com/Mike_Jagger92 Michael Brown

Regardless if its free or not, if it looks bad it looks bad.

        • tanjil

but that’s a matter of opinion, i like alisa and miguel ones and if that asuka one could be an alt than damn

      • http://www.facebook.com/AL.x.and.her Alexander ‘Al King’ Clay

“Some people just want to watch the world burn…”

Bonus free alternate costumes added to the free alternates already available at launch + tons of customization options as opposed to paying $40+ for alternates in that “other” game…and you still can’t please them all.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Archer/747006074 Justin Archer

          I can’t even agree more.

    • RollenceElloydChiusinco

But you can’t argue that each one involved a lot of care and work to make. At least, appreciate the efforts of the artists.

This is because I really would like to encourage Tekken to keep up this trend.

    • spectaa

She is half naked and cheap (free actually).

      • Aiddon

naked women do nothing for me

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RVTCDH7KD4LOBP22XNRB2J56TM Sean O'donovan

Well have fun with naked men?

          • Aiddon

            they do less than nothing

    Lobo Heihachi… wow, too cool.

  • KKFulcrum

Stat-tracking and leaderboards and stuff on the web is pretty cool. Games like Battlefield have been doing this for awhile, so its nice to see for fighting games.

  • http://twitter.com/gogotwit Gojira Twit

Road Warrior Heihachi is super boss, too bad he doesn’t quite match the concept art in-game

Also wtflol @ Jaycee.  Took me a few minutes to figure out who that was.

    Octomom Anna, really Japan?

And yeah that opening was just silly.  Nobody’s gonna sit there and look at that thing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/victoly Matthew Taylor

Every single design they get collabs with is fucking awesome.

I want my Naruto-artist Lars costume. That shit was badass as hell.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AL.x.and.her Alexander ‘Al King’ Clay

      ^^^THIS SHIT HERE.

If you played Lars and didn’t use the Naruto-Alt, then you weren’t playing Lars.

I am going to die is someone got Anna’s off on a stream somewhere! THAT’S GREAT!

    • http://www.tyler2k.info/ tyler2k

It’s incredibly shiny, it practically glows on Unknown’s stage. It looks bad ass in game.

  • Maxim Cryseria

Woah! Anna’s costume is just @_@

  • http://www.tyler2k.info/ tyler2k

Shout outs to El Mariachi Miguel.

    • RollenceElloydChiusinco

I like the idea, but I feel that against the craziness of the other collab costumes, his is pretty tame.

  • http://www.facebook.com/langdon.herrick Langdon Herrick

Lei’s special bench throw is too cool to be legal.

  • BeholdMyPower

Namco certainly pulling out all the stops, wish they would at least try to do the same for Soul Calibur.

    • http://twitter.com/SuperAmmario Ammar Khan

The SC community should’ve supported their game then. Tekken 6 was a pathetic effort when it came to features/modes/netcode/practice yet the community still supported with 3.5 million sold since the core gameplay was still sublime. Hence why Namco raised the budget for Tag2. The same can’t be said for Soul Calibur’s sales unfortunately.

      • RollenceElloydChiusinco

Out of curiosity, what’s Soul Calibur V’s sales?

  • http://twitter.com/WeFlyForever HiL Alcee

Whoa, Tekken just turned into a circus.

    Lol @ Octopussy Anna!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/TGIDZZVL24YPLDA54UUDQBBABY RisingStar

“Premium Service?” “World Tekken Federation?” looks like Namco is learning a few tips from Activision and Call of Duty Elite. All these games are shipping with “extra services” that are designed to extract money from players.  I don’t hate it as I am an entrepenuer and the idea behind it is genius as it makes sure that the game that took millions to produce is still raking in money after the player has brought it. Sucks if you have an Xbox 360 (like I do) where you have to pay for XBL and Tekken Federation. Gaming is quickly becoming a very expensive hobby.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VRXYA3SXU66RJVGALH7YXJ74D4 Hammer

By premium, Im pretty sure they mean the Online pass system that you get free when you buy the game.

  • kofi agyeman

oh dear. they should probably bring back some of the tekken 5 alts while they’re at it
