[UPDATE] BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Heading to Playstation 3 in Japan, Development Team Placing Much of Their Effort into the Network Mode

Andriasang is reporting that Sinobi, a Japanese retail blog, made mention earlier today of a TBA listing for BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma in the Playstation 3 release calendar of this week’s Famitsu. This information comes only two days after the game was officially revealed by Arc System Works, though no official word has been released for this console port. The game is currently undergoing location testing in preparation for its Winter 2012 arcade release.

Sinobi makes no mention of an Xbox 360 release, but it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume it will eventually reach Microsoft’s console, much like Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift before it. We’ll keep you updated as more details are released.

UPDATE – Far from the small mention in a release schedule, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma was actually given a full preview in this week’s Famitsu, which included an interview with producer Toshimichi Mori. The preview also confirmed that Arc System Works is currently only working on a Playstation 3 port, the development of which is close to 30% complete.

Mori states in the inteview that his team is putting all they can into perfecting the network mode, teasing “something amazing” if all their goals are realized. Be sure to head over to Andriasang to read their full report, which also makes mention of new gameplay elements being added to the story mode.

And the inevitable vita release will be an update to this, ala csex. Sorry, Aksys, still don’t trust you guys enough to buy yet another game from you guys until i can be sure it’s the last version. Don’t feel like cranking out full price for something that’ll be obsolete in a matter of MONTHS. This game isn’t out yet but based on your release record, we already know we can expect there to be at least one update that will be a separate game, and possible with free characters that you will no doubt try to get us to buy shortly after THIS release.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

Your right ther will be anohter game release.  Keep waiting 1 more decade and maybe just maybe you might be lucky and the series will be over and you will finally have the final release.

Seriously with at least months apart from each new release , that’s a lot of waiting instead of enjoying a game , if you care about it .

Not worth it imo . With that kind of mindset you’d be waiting almost two years before touching Blazblue or SF4

They probably dont find it profitatble to spend the money and license it on 360 for the japanese audiance.

I’m sure it will come for to 360 in the US release 3 months after japan.

    Shocking news

  • RLT4LIFE

Don’t really think we’d need an update for this one. The previous games were on both systems, so it would only make sense that this would be too.

  • http://twitter.com/iminthenet2 iminthenet2

Obviously this game will be released on PS3 and 360. Look at Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift they were released on both systems.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/NKRSMTNYGOGWEPZ2EJZDTMTQJM Jason

Yeah that’s true but look at how much emphasis they are putting into the PS3. I am like this these games are getting too damn high for you to favor one console over another. If you’re gonna have an exclusive then become that don’t fuck up like capcom did with SF4 and especially SFXT. Xbox 360 got nothing but a few characters and Vita got more than a freaking home console……. That’s unbelievably crazy. That is why no one in there right mind is buying that game. It hurt the reputation of Tekken to the point they had to charge for online play. The director of RE6 said it best. Basically saying is we should stick to playing games and leave the job to them. Its nothing wrong with a lil constructive criticisms every now and then but too many people are trying to make these games nowadays and they all crappy like some bad goulash.

What are the chances for a same day global release?

    • Gökhan Kara

Looking at past ASW releases, I’d say slim.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

Not gonna happen seeing as how ATLUS needed to region lock it to get it to happen.  And thier biggest money maker is Japan’s arcade scene.

not coming out for xbox would be a terrible mistake

  • http://twitter.com/RollzE Rollie

maybe they’re making it only for ps3 in japan since xbox is not that popular there and they thought it would be a waste of money, but outside of japan they better bring it to xbox too

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PVJHG5JGSX463T3Z3JDEFJCSZM GC

Arcade (fighting) games will continue to have update after update to make money. A trend our so beloved Capcom set over 15 years go. We are lucky people play bad popular fighting games so companies can actually take the risk to do 2D stuff. A almost dead format to some industry leaders. $160ish USD over time isnt bad for a game plus some updates/characters that you dont Have to buy. Unless your tournament and your goal should be winning money and staying on top of game competivley anyway. Don’t need another legacy arcade dev like SNK hanging by a thread, BBCP BBCPSIII BBBBD UDLRYB  w/e version bring them all on.

    • http://twitter.com/Twitch_Rat Twitch

Because CAPCOM was the first company ever to start doing this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/amethystharp João Francisco

Considering the last console releases compared to arcade… PS3/Xbox360 about february 2013…

  • HASJ

Does this game have an actual sequel? Calamity Trigger, Continuum Shift and Chrono Phantasma, are those like 1, 2 and 3 or v1, v2 and v3?

Maybe Chrono Phantasma could be considered a new one, since there’s a pretty big number of system changes on it but, aside of that, only the story mode changed drastically over each iteration.

I like BB, but it if I buy this and one year later there is a Calamity Phantasma Extend, I’m gonna be pissed.

    • Aiddon

CP is pretty much Blazblue 3.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

As one of the people who buys every iteration of the BB series, its pretty much 99 percent guarentee that a new version will be announce next year.  And Calamity Trigger is BB1 Continuum Shift is BB2 and Chrono Phantasma is BB3.  BB Continuum Shift 2 is BB2.2, and BB continuum Shift Extend is BB2.3.

BB is nearing its 4th year now with its 4th iteration.   If BB3 is the final Chapter in the series we expect a few more revisons before its finished but If the story doesn’t end BB4 is expected to be the final chapter.   Once the trilogy is over we have no clue what will happen to the series, since ASW will want to make a new IP.

Some people will only buy the sequel and ignore the revisions.  If your just waiting for the final version of each chapter in the series, by the time you find out the final revision you probably won’t have too much time to enjoy the online if you only care about online.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Zarathos-No-Daimaōh/586040793 Zarathos No Daimaōh

More like each were chapter of the first Blazblue saga , with edited expansions inbetween .

I wouldnt be surprised if only after ChronoPhantasma we got an Blazblue 2 . And before that of course they’ll be some kind of extend version . Notice how some favorite are still missing and to be milked as dlcs or for sequels

  • Hotaka Saika

If they get the same netcode or even better developed as what they have for P4, this thing is gonna be nuts online.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

The way it sounds, it seems they are trying to make a new and hopefully better netcode.

  • Aiddon

Good times. I do wonder what role the newbies will play in the narrative

  • Go2hell66

does blazblue even need better netcode, i always thought arcsys netcode was the shit already

    • http://twitter.com/MayaReinhartz Maya Reinhartz

It does unfortunately, Sometimes when people start watching a match that just ended, they will see the whole match at a higher speed, and everyone needs to wait for that specific person to end the “match view” in order to play again x_x

      • Go2hell66

oh yea i’ve seen that, it never bothered me much though, the actual in game matches have been flawless when i play online, at least for me anyways

      • http://twitter.com/FirstEgo J.M.

I don’t have a a single problem with that feature. The recordings are super fast. I find the lack of a rematch option far far bigger and timewasting.

      • Zyrus

If you don’t like that, go play CT where you have to wait for a match to be over before you can use an invitation or join from the list.

Of course, that’s what made CT’s netcode more consistent than the CS’s.

    • http://twitter.com/FirstEgo J.M.

A lot of the rooms in player matches also don’t show how your ping matches up even though the requirements are clear as day. It’s very annoying because you have to refresh until you can actually see what ping you have with them. There are sometimes 10+ rows of lobbies with no actual ping next to them so you know the requirements, but you can’t join…

They should also allow people in 1v1 lobbies to rematch. It’s very annoying have to go back to character/stage select constantly. Skullgirls fixed that even though they don’t have lobbies yet by allowing people to rematch, select a different stage or just different characters.

I suppose it’s not a netcode problem per se, but it does make the online experience frustrating. They could also do something to improve the national experience in the US. It seems like lag happens more often with US folks than it should. Just about anyone in the continental US should have an orange connection with each other at the worst unless their internet is craptacular.

WE WANT A PC PORT! WITH STEAM SUPPORT! NOT GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE! LISTEN TO US MORI!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

I don’t think they care.  Its a business, and they released CT as a test.   The profit probably wasn’t worth it since its to niche and probably got pirated far to much.

      • petran79

it had also terrible marketing. I can buy Guilty Gear Isuka and Reload easily online on GOG and Gamersgate, while for CT it was available as a digital download  or retail in specific regions only, even till today. At least digital download should have been available on Steam.

I had to order a cd key to be able to play online. Much faster than ordering from Amazon and doesnt require a DVD to be present.

  • ragnarok954

As a person who represents PS3 more than 360, I feel sorry for you guys. Don’t lose hope though.

  • KubikiriTurkojin

lets hope they dont release it on 360, we might actually get free updates or add on dlc instead of bbcpexpcp.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

the 360 is out dated and starting to become like trying to make a fighting game for PC a hassle and costing them extra money with patches like P4U, Skullgirls and other games and finally there doing something about the netcode even they know it needs working on but the fanboys dont because it sure isnt Capcom or GGPO netcode status

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JCPSC4QXY6QVC3VPBNBJDZAFMU kao

Are you serious or just and idiot?  BB netcode is better then Capcom and some people prefer their characters and enimies not rolling back and making the game look hella glitchy.

Anyways people have said that BBCT have a better netcode then the rest of the BB series which is still better then the SF4 netcode which is better then the MvC netcode.  You can’t jsut move one games netcode to the next and expect everything to be just as good.   Same with SCV, they aren’t using the same netcode for TTT2 because they simply can’t.

It’s gonna be a long wait. That’s why we got P4U I suppose.

  • http://twitter.com/HooliganCombo James Reilly

besides this hilarious attempt at console war arguments aside, better then their previous net code? gonna make something to rival GGPO?

  • http://www.facebook.com/patrick.honeyman Patrick Lucas Honeyman

Are people going to baulk if I suggest that they put a tag mode in the home versions? If the memory can manage it, would be a nice addition (or maybe 1-3 crossover characters from Guilty Gear?)
