Dead or Alive 5 Balance Test Combo Footage #3

Tecmo Koei America recently uploaded another combo video showcasing the current build of Dead or Alive 5. This combo video features Hitomi, Hayabusa, Chrisie, Bayman, and La Mariposa, and will be the last combo video they release before Tougeki. Yohei Shimbori, the games director, was told he “could only use characters that we’ve announced already” which likely means we will see more DOA5 roster reveals in the future.

Thats odd. I too think that there may be more character announcements in the future.

They’ve been announcing on Thursdays so I would expect this coming Thursday.

With Helena not yet announced I am expecting a new character announcement before IPLs 12 days of doa5 are over.

this game is starting to look so much better than doa4… that im gonna be playing it alongside ttt2… i just hope all of those changes and the intruduction of unholdable stuns really work in providing guaranteed dmg situations and help make doa a real fighting game and not rock paper scissors with tits anymore 0_0

DOA5 does “look” a lot better than DOA4. Either new or simply improved artist.

It would be nice if there was an option to turn on hit sparks/ collision animations

       There is…

I didn’t believe you, but I went to youtube and found some match vids with blurs and smoke and stuff. I guess what I’d like to see is some more colorful, varied, or bold hit sparks as an option or personal DLC.

In this video, I had to pause it often to see the subtle smoke. So maybe your privy to an actual in-game option for this? Or perhaps in this build this will be the extent of them or they were toned down for this video (no idea).

Tekken for instance, while old and sometimes ugly, has bold hitsparks for every hit. I’m a fan of 3rd Strike hitsparks. Both Virtua Fighter and DOA have taken a minimal approach to them, and I personally think it does a disservice to the animations. I would pay for hitspark DLC or customization though, if I had to.

They aren’t hit “sparks”, more like hit “bubbles” to designate the hit level of the attacks. There’s an option to set it on/off because many of the traditional players felt it was too distracting but Team NINJA found new players enjoyed it because they could tell what the hit levels are from playing mid-match. So it went in as an option in the options menu, as displayed in the Alpha Demo that shipped with Ninja Gaiden 3.

That’s cool. And yeah, hit effects is the general term I should have used, not specifically just sparks.
