    I see no difference.

    • Eric Lemaire

huh??? the remastered ones are smoothed out, clearer, yet less detailed. They appear to be less pixelated but that in part takes away from the detail. This is exactly what they did to SF3: Third Strike.

The star on Dio’s back looks like a red blob.

A giant mosquito stand straight from the amazons bit his shoulder. True story.

    • Rahavic

      2x Super Eagle filter

    • Mike Arthur

HD Ver. Has some generic filtering and a semi-nice post-processing effect that makes the characters look “sketched”. Look at Star Platinum’s hair for example.

  • http://www.facebook.com/SPARTANS541 Yuri A. Esteves

Really Capcom? You offer graphics that even MAME already have?

  • http://twitter.com/rammyWtS Rammy Goat

I refuse to comment on every, single JoJo article but….. WANT!

  • OneSanitarium

    2A>2A>6S+A>63>s.3A>214S[Ax3,2A,236AAx2]>j.C>66>66>214AA

Probably just going to play this on GGPO if/when I do. Gotta get a link down first.
I’m indifferent to the filter though. I hate the hqx outlines, but I enjoy the lines within the coloring

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YV2437XOBMNL5UI3GR3PWIDHWY Rong

GGPO will probably take JoJo down once HD remix is released. Similar thing happened with 3rd Strike.

      • OneSanitarium

3SOE used GGPO though. This doesn’t.

And if it is somehow taken down, JoJo’s can just move to the karnovr room as well. :D

        • RunningWild1984

Fuck you assholes taking away the Karnov room.

          • OneSanitarium

It was a joke. Chill out.

          • http://www.facebook.com/victoly Matthew Taylor

Well I guess don’t fuck you.

We hate bitches stealing our Karnov room.

  • http://twitter.com/rammyWtS Rammy Goat

Meh, they can do whatever they want in that dept. Not buying it for the gfx. It looked amazing to me on Dreamcast so….

    • mozart danno

you know the game has both HD and original gfx to play in right?

  • Barry Hui

    … i dont know…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RVTCDH7KD4LOBP22XNRB2J56TM Sean O'donovan

Subtle, but nice. I really like the subtle scribble effects added in.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Martins/1471518927 Christian Martins

    Zsnes filter? Humm, nice.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Art-Salmons/100001016539462 Art Salmons

That’s seriously worse. The auto-smoothing effect ruins the detail and character that the pixel artists worked so hard on.

    • Mr_Kensou

There’s no “auto-smoothing”. They implemented HD to the sprites so it can respond to the bit-samples on the system. If anything, the pixel artists are the ones who are jumping and raving on this.

Doesn’t look worse, it just means the game can read HD and can play smoothly. Of course, you will have the OPTION to change it back to the SD pixels if you wish for the old-school effect.

      • de1irium

         >They implemented HD to the sprites so it can respond to the bit-samples on the system.

        Wat.

  • Brit Mckay

Haha, now another game’s audience can experience what we were offered to suffer through with 3SOnline. lol

  • Kaihedgie

I was sayin’ “Looks weird what with the blur” at first, then I noticed the scribble lines on Jotaro’s Stand.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Gethoff-Mahfacebuk/558552166 Gethoff Mahfacebuk

That added hatching effect does look nice, but it doesn’t change the overall blurry look that comes with this filter.  You really do lose some subtle details with that.

      • Kaihedgie

Dunno about that. Looks like they actually added subtle details, though I’m just talking about the scribble lines. It doesn’t really seem all that…well…subtle in the original. I guess people just prefer pixelated nostalgia over modern smoothness and touch-ups.

Not that there’s really any reason to complain at all since the option exists to play the game without the HD sprites.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000764002342 Cliff Bell

maybe they look better in gameplay….I don’t like it personally

  • http://twitter.com/FranciscoShreds Francisco Arredondo

wow… looks like they just decided to surface blur the fuck out of it. lines that were strong lost their value and blended, just fuckin softened everything up…  capcom needs to learn how to work photoshop (or w/e the game animation equivalent is) if they’re not gonna bother redrawing anything…

    • datagram

It’s not blurring; they used an image scaling algorithm (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_scaling). I use that stuff all the time when I’m emulating older games. And since they’re players use the original visuals, I don’t really see how it’s grounds for complaint.

Personally, I think the manga-style shading they added looks good.

  • Louis Lam

Doesn’t GGPO have the exact same type of filter and more?

  • JELIFISH19

Looks much better in motion.  It has the Guardian Heroes filter.

  • Number100

People should know that the new graphics look 10x better than the old version…in motion. When I played it, I was blown away.

    • spectaa

10X? I don’t believe you, unless you compare it to a dreamcast version on flat screen.

  • Nybb

These are the same types of automatic filters that can be found in any modern NES, SNES, etc. emulator. They do make the game look better on bigger screens, but this “graphical remastering” probably took a couple guys like a week to do. I really hope this re-release has lots of other cool features to make it actually worth the $20.

  • AugustAPC

Remastered? ROFL. A basic algorithm with some tweaks. Capcom really trying hard to justify that $20 price tag, huh?

Fuck off with the greed already.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ty-Austin/100002154794093 Ty Austin

I don’t really care what they do to it.  As long as I can play it over XBL I’m happy!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

^^That part^^ but PSN for me

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jon-Slayton/563921933 Jon Slayton

HD aka…. Emulator filter. The HD sprites looked smudged and shitty honestly. I’d rather have the originals with more detail.

  • KubikiriTurkojin

capcom acting like dicks and giving free upscaling options from emu that you can play the game on for free with probably better connection than this bs release and 20 bucks cheaper. people seriously need to stop buying capcom games like this to send some sort of message, but people just too damn retarded.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

you retards make me laugh with your little attemps to start a boycott stop buying Capcom games yea right like thats gonna happen good luck finding your heard of sheep

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ty-Austin/100002154794093 Ty Austin

I know, right?  Not only that, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft keep releasing all these ‘classic’ games from older consoles and charging for them when I can just play them for free!  What dicks!

Oh, I forgot, that’s illegal…  I’m sorry, who was being a dick again?

    • JasinWalraven

Retarded? I’m retarded because I don’t want to fucking steal a game to play it on GGPO, or dig out a working dreamcast, hunt down a copy of this game, then pay someone $80 to mod my stick to work on a dreamcast? If you don’t want to buy it that’s fine. But fuck you for insulting me because I want to buy this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/CPSIV Joe Capsule Flores

I think it looks good. Especially the sketchy/shading effects. Gives it that manga feel. Haters gonna hate, whats new. I’ll be buying it day 1, hell if I could pre-order it I would.

  • http://twitter.com/AladarCZ John Doe

Sigh. Another game ruined by “HD” remake, which is just a blur filter.. :(

Guess it’s not an automatic buy for me, I really need to see how this looks in motion before ordering.

    • Hector Garcia

Ruining old games is as easy as adding filters now, even if we’re given the option to play with original sprites if we choose too.

      Yup.

  • neogm
    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

LMAO please tell me this isnt real

  • http://twitter.com/Afro_MH Shane Russell

What you should do is stop worrying about the graphics and look at the bottom right screen, which means we’ll be getting the S. Story Mode from the PS1 version as well.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/TGIDZZVL24YPLDA54UUDQBBABY RisingStar

People are so negative.  I cannot wait for this game, its a hidden gem in the history of fighting games.

Also, how Capcom being greedy by re-releasing an already complete game, adding some bonus and a few filters and then charging $20? People are mistaking greedy with good business sense, as this is a cost-effective process with little to lose and much to gain.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Syxx573 Daniel Jones

    lol 20 dollars

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

lol yea it fills me with joy to cant wait

  • http://www.facebook.com/HawkEyeChris Chris Ware

To all the people complaining about 20 dollars…..

    Really?

Filters or no filters, 20 bucks is super cheap for a quality fighting game. You don’t have to buy it either. Have fun playing on mame being a cheap bastard ~

    • http://handsomefatman.com/ Carlos Alexandre

Agreed 100%. 20 bucks is peanuts.

EDIT – Wait does this have GGPO? If not I take back what I said.

  • http://www.facebook.com/leostephan Leo Stephan Deadpool Quiroz

    HD Remaster?

If that’s how they call a bunch of filters…

  • RunningWild1984

This isn’t HD at all. Just a sloppy filtered mess. Filters make games look like shit.

I’m playing this game in it’s original pixelated glory.

This just in: lower-res sprites look great on HD displays PROVIDED YOU DON’T FILTER THEM. God forbid today’s generation of gamers have to actually see a pixel.

    • Moribund Cadaver

I think technically, SD pixel art looks best when a scanline filter is applied. You have to remember that the readability of pixel art was crafted around the assumption of a certain kind of of display device. Black space between scan lines was taken into account. Simulate the scanlines, and oddly enough the pixel art becomes a lot more coherent once more.

It seems the trend right now is to apply smoothing and blur filters to lower resolution assets and call it “HD”. Which is of course, pure marketing ploy designed to try and make a presumed shallow mainstream audience not think of the game as “old and poopy”.

  • http://www.facebook.com/victoly Matthew Taylor

I wish they had the added details on the original sprites.

That smoothing shit always looks like complete ass.

    PS needs more scanlines

  • Moribund Cadaver

People should be a lot more worried about the source material for this port beyond an optional blur filter. At Comic Con, the build shown had sloppy presentation with constant load screens not present in the CPS3 version – sometimes multiple different kinds of load screens one after the other. It also may be censored.

Sadly, it appears this is not being done by Iron Galaxy and so the quality of the package will likely be inferior. Without IG’s involvement, I wouldn’t count on GGPO being used either.

    • H_Magnus

So, basically; they’re using the american Dreamcast version as source… AGAIN. Complete with the awful load times, mayonnaise blood, and most of the onomatopoeia removed.

Guess I won’t be buying this game, then. ):
