SSFIV: AE Ver. 2012 – Guile Resets and One Touch Kill Setups by BT|Dieminion

Dieminion of Team Broken Tier recently went on a video uploading spree, providing a great look at the work he’s been putting into perfecting his Guile game in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition ver. 2012. These videos include some solid resets, as well as a few that lead into one touch kill setups. They cover a variety of situations, including whiffed Shoryukens and mashing on wakeup, so definitely check these out if you’re a fan of the character or just want to see what Dieminion has been working on. His notes have also been included below each video.

    No sir, these resets are intended for those who mash an attack or throw on wake up, given it’s not an invincible reversal (3-frame SRK, EX move, Ultra). So punishing the masher after the reset (b.LK) isn’t the only place you are looking for the mashing, it’s also the start of the series (j.HK), because that will beat a masher if it’s a meaty. So j.HK isn’t a liability here, and this could be performed reliably on a desperate opponent (given you conditioned him/her to be this way) and they don’t have meter. Even if you feel like the j.HK is telegraphed, you can remove it and start with a meaty cr.MP, which can be made extra tricky if you did a empty safe jump-in. All you sacrifice is 100 damage, which could be made up to an extent if the cr.MP you use instead is a counter hit. Not saying that you said it was a gimmick, risk, or low-possibility situation, but I feel it is more practical (read: a useful and logical setup) than you make it out to seem.
    
    The only factor that makes this situational is needing the corner, but it isn’t a rare thing to happen in a Guile match. However, what we must consider is if Dieminion, or any Guile player for that matter, developed strategies to subtly (or forcibly, even) get the opponent in the corner. Time will tell.

Technically this isn’t one touch kill is it, it requires a reset that frametraps the opponent*
Besides that it needs multiple 1-frame links, corner position, a jump-in to work, and 2 full meters to actually do good damage.I’d call it high-quality combo-video material until I see this happen in a match

*I think that’s the least plausible frametrap available, better traps use either a high-low mixup (overhead vs low attack) or a combo-able throw. Here the opponent can escape by simply blocking any direction

  If they block, they are still in the corner and still under pressure. These were made for if the opponent tries to wake-up mashing normals or throws, back-dash, or reversal.

Not sure how this is a reset? Not a cross up reset, overhead, or low reset. Opponent can simply block the foward light kick, Not ambigious anything……soo .. wack reset

  It’s an air reset and it resets the damage scaling. So it is a reset no matter how bad you personally think it is. Sure, he can’t dash under or do anything fancy like that but that doesn’t make it any less of a reset. I suggest you go look for the definition of a reset.
  
  I personally think it’s a decent reset. Because if you mash reversal, he can make it whiff and max damage punish, if you commit to a crouch block he can just throw you and you’re still in the corner and if you try to crouch tech you get blown up by a frame trap into huge damage and you’re still in the corner.

    The logic behind this setup goes something like:
    - imagine you won a round 1 without using any meter
    - imagine that you got beaten up to near death the next round
    - imagine you do get the edge and get to push your opponent to the corner without using meter
    - imagine that you get to land a full frontal heavy attack
    - imagine that you confirm it into tight links of medium and heavy attacks
    - imagine that your opponent mashes a non-reversal just when he lands from the reset
    
    then do a few more 1 frame links into your super and link your ultra.

  Resets are not okizemes or gimmicks or some of those witchcraft, just like a c.mk x hop with Blanka for a cross-up or single frame traps, specially if opponent is mashing. The standing HK also fakes a walk and grab setup and you cant always go for a grab, but has the lowest reward in the mixups possibilites.
