Option Select Tutorial by RyuApprentice

RyuApprentice’s newest option select tutorial is a bit different than most tutorials you’d find on the internet. Instead of explaining a specific option select for a character, this video goes over what option selects are and how they work, making this a great general video for beginners.

That is how my Intel HD internal graphics renders the game at lowest resolution. very fun and annoying at the same time

Nice! I’ve been waiting for someone to do a youtube tut for this. Thanks!

So why were the inputs not showing for Ryu? Would have been far more useful in understanding what the heck was going on

I agree it’s easier for beginners to understand when you see the
inputs, but that is the way you need to test option-selects in training
      mode.

He recorded the Ryu dummy doing the option-select, then he took control
the  character defending against it to illustrate that outcomes are
different even if the inputs always remain the same.

If it helps, The sweep OS is just  c.lpx2 while buffering c.hk. If the
c.lp hits or is blocked then you go into a link or blockstring (so you
need to be ready to react to this likely outcome), but if the opponent
backdashes, then Ryu’s sweep comes out (you don’t need to react to
anything, the OS choses the sweep option for you).

And for the safe jump OS, you first need a safe jump setup (very
important: the opponent should not be able to jump out of a true safe
jump and you should be able to block 4-5 frame reversals in time.).  So
once you got your safe jump, the trick is to buffer a special move or a
super while you’re still in the air/as the jumping attack is about to
connect. If your jump attack connects, then nothing comes out and you go
into a combo or pressure, but if the opponent tries to backdash, then
your buffered move comes out. So the inputs are: safe jump j.hk, buffer
shoryuken/tatsu/super, link.  You buffer different moves depending on
matchups. For example tatsu or super to chase down teleports, Sweep to
chase a backdash or Shoryuken to beat other types of reversals.

      Unfortunately, not everything is perfect.

Agreed, would like to see the timing.

The reason I couldnt record it as P1 is because my PC cant handle me playing and recording at the same time. but if you follow the principle then you will be fine

If this was a bit tough to get, Vesper Arcade has a few vids on option selects with a much more in-depth look at them. Just go to their youtube channel and check out the SSF4 tutorial. I believe  option selects are in chapter 8 or 9.
