Desk’s Retro Combo Video for Street Fighter II: The World Warrior

Combo master Desk is back with a brand new combo video, this time heading all the way back to the very first iteration of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. He runs through combos for each of the original eight characters, showing off some of the peculiarities of the fighting system and using them to his advantage to pull off some very interesting combos. In the comments, he speaks of possibly continuing from here through the rest of the SFII series, so stay tuned for more retro combo videos in the future.

His notes this time around are included in the video as annotations.

Still wonder if combos in this game were planned, or a mistake. Perhaps the simple jump-sweep combo was meant to be, as well as the light attack chaining. But the rest looks pretty buggy to me :)

    • http://twitter.com/dougfunnie87 doug

it was said many times that combos were not planned.

      • JasinWalraven

Correct me if I am wrong, as I remember it was the 2in1 that was a glitch, when they tried making the special moves easier to do.

Combos were a glitch in this game.

        And the rest is history.

finally, a video from desk worth watching :-/

My man Desk! Good shit yo!

  • Rahavic

What happened to the whole thing with him saying he was going to EVO this year?

    • http://twitter.com/VulcanHades Luisito

Desk was at EVO.  Infiltration was using his hands.

Being good at combos doesn’t make him good in pvp.  He punked out.

      • BornFreeSRK

You guys trolling? Obviously he makes combo videos. That’s his thing. He doesn’t claim to be a great tournament player. If he goes to Evo I’d like to see him do a Q&A panel. Teach people tricks to learning combos and game mechanics. that would have been cool.

        • Rahavic

This isn’t some “Desk confirmed for EVO” troll, he said it himself that he was going, I was just curious what happened since nothing was really heard from the guy.

          • BornFreeSRK

Wasn’t responding directly to you Rahavic.
I was responding to the “punked out” comment. Desk hasn’t made any claims in regards to being a great tournament player so why say he “punked out”? The guy clearly works his butt off to bring us amazing combo videos and explain game mechanics, disvcover new technology etc. So why give him sh#t??

We needed Desk at EVO. He could have helped stop the Korean master race.

I think he was there under a different name, he woulda exposed his name had he made it far in a tourny or won but tbh he’s just a gaming combo scientist.  his tournament gaming isn’t up to par

I didn’t get to go :( There was a brief period when I thought the trip was 100% but a bunch of stuff didn’t work out. Hope I didn’t disappoint anyone too much. I was really gutted that I couldn’t go.” – Desk

      • JasinWalraven

If you would have said something I’m sure a bunch of us would have help pay your way to go, I know I would have forked over some cash

    Wow, what an awful game.

Let’s see who takes the bait.

         Hahahahahaha

WW Guile would be top tier in SFxT

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nic-Holley/1371451240 Nic Holley

WW Guile would be top tier in any SF game. I know what you’re trying to say, though.

Love SF2, Love Desk, hate to make an off-topic comment, but I think he’d understand:

World Warrior — pretty much broken/unfinished game that got fixed, and people loved it (SSF2T)

SF Alpha — pretty much broken/unfinished game that got fixed, and people loved it (SFA2/SFA3)

New Generation — pretty much broken/unfinished game that got fixed, and people loved it (3S)

SFxT — pretty much broken/unfinished game that for some reason is seen as a black-sheep occurrence from Capcom, despite their history of releasing broken/unfinished games and then fixing them into something people will love.

    • Louis Lam

Most of the things wrong about SFxT aren’t about being broken/unfinished, they’re completely intentional.

      • http://www.facebook.com/victoly Matthew Taylor

No, it’s more about being broken and unfinished.

It’s like they took SF4 and sloppily inserted new mechanics into it, but didn’t bother to compensate for it.

  • Awsumpossum12345

    Haha. So broken…..

  • BornFreeSRK

Agreed. Such a bizarre reaction to SFxT. People act like it’s as bad as the game version “Street Fighter The Movie”.

Even is SFxT is broken it was a GREAT watching the 2v2 pools at Evo – especially the teams working together and interacting (Justin and Floe not talking! Fuudo and Tokido discussing every tiny detail between rounds).

Plus it was a great opportunity to see what all the great players had up their sleeves.

So many good players. And the vibe was great.
Shame they didn’t show more of SFxT on stream. No love for SFxT :(

    • Brian Grissom

You forgot to mention Combofiend not letting Mike Ross play.  That was classic.

      • BornFreeSRK

Haha, yeah, and then CF felt so bad he switched Mike in at worst point, completely exposing him. Such a shame… Good stuff by Infiltration and Laugh.

  • Johnson Nguyen

If Desk travelled back in time, he would frustrate the living hell out of the gamers of years gone yonder.

Ah yes… just read the stories regarding the Old-School SF scene: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/info-on-the-old-school-sf-scene.22/

  • KubikiriTurkojin

those shoto crouching shorts were as good if not better than guiles standing jabs.

also love the background art used in this vidm(nostalgia sucker). who here bought the european snes with sf bundle back in 92 featuring this art on the box cover? i did, lol.
