EVO 2012 – International Representation Statistics for AE 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, The King of Fighters XIII, and Soul Calibur V

While the Evolution tournament series frequently draws a high number of international players, EVO 2012 seemed to exceed what we’ve seen in the past by a pretty wide margin. Noticing this, a member of our forums named Acku compiled this data from the quarter-finals on for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition ver. 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, The King of Fighters XIII, and Soul Calibur V to gain a clearer perspective on where all these fighters hailed from.

He passed along his findings from this weekend, so we thought it would be neat to put these on the front page for everyone to check out. They provide an interesting look at both the overall diversity of the tournament and how each country’s qualifying players stood up against the pressure of making it to semi-finals and top eight.

I would like to extend a huge thanks to Acku for compiling all of this data and making it readily available in our forums.

    What about MK?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000504766571 Milton O’Bannon

And before anyone says ONLY SCUB AMERICANS PLAY MK. Theres actually quite a following for it in the UK and other places. Japan doesn’t have to play it for it to be considered international.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maurice-Fleshman/100001737340513 Maurice Fleshman

Thanks for having my back man. I hate when people say that. It’s sad their knowledge of the game is ass. I know the game isn’t amazing, but MK first time as a competitive game. This is what I consider a good try.

        • RollenceElloydChiusinco

I like what you just said – and its a point that I will definitely agree with.

Even if I’m not a gimundo fan of MK (not in a competitive sense, at least), I have nothing but respect for Netherrealms, and I’m open to looking into whatever else they have in store.

    • http://twitter.com/Delriach Delriach

Not sure about MK entirely but there were people from Canada, Japan (a Kano player!), UK, Chile. I’m not sure about where else. Obviously the US Too.

  • Colon Zamora

i’d like to see the total number of players from each country for each tournament, in order to see the percentage. USA’s numbers are deceptively high, since it was an American tournament.

  • NaelAM

Under AE, that should be “United Arab Emirates”. Good stuff, though.

    • iantothemax

      Thanks, I missed that one.

  • Robert Dunbar

Who was the one Australian who made top 8 for AE??

    • iantothemax

Shang Tsung, but that’s not top 8, it’s top 32.

    • RollenceElloydChiusinco

that’d be the Australian/Hong Kong guy – whose handle I think is Human Bomb playing Sakura.

  • John Smith

Acku’s stats are not entirely accurate… not that it’s his fault mind you. It was based off what flag they had in the brackets.

    Unfortunately
the flags were not always correct. I don’t know about the other
countries but many Mexican players had either a US flag or no flag at
all next to their name. Romance and Bala both made top 8 for King of
Fighters but were given US flags in the brackets for reasons unknown.

Frutsy also made top 8 in Marvel but had no flag next to his name and is
about as Mexican as they come. I don’t know why the mistake came up but
a bunch of players were complaining about it.

    • iantothemax

If you look at the article and the original stats in the forums, you’ll realize that I’ve already fixed that.

    • http://www.facebook.com/uri.campillo Uri Campillo

in kof there where 2 mexicans at the finals (bala and romance)

      • http://www.facebook.com/mastin.snead Mastin Snead

         ^^^
And that’s where it gets sketchy for me.
You’re telling me, for all the tourneys they are in, in Cali, they travel up from Mexico every time?
Or are you telling me they are on a student visa? Or in the process of getting American citizenship?
You’re saying John Choi flies over from Korea, Mike Ross flew in from Africa, PRRog from Puerto Rico, Philipino Champ flew over from the islands over there?
So, if you REALLY want to get country specific, you’ll have to ask all of the contestants where they are ‘from’ and list that.

This country is so diverse, you’re either American or not.
        Period.

        -M

Its all just what they consider themselves. If i moved to America tomorrow, i’d still call myself British.

        • http://twitter.com/BongoRosso Isaac

“Mike Ross flew in from Africa”

          Wow…

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YV2437XOBMNL5UI3GR3PWIDHWY Rong

Nah, Mike “Extreme Human” Ross descended from Planet Xtreme.

no I was hearing that human bomb was from austrialia in AE

    • iantothemax

He lives in Australia but he’s from Hong Kong. He’s represented as such because I think that’s how he signed up.

*looks at all the various stats*

    This is all I see:

50000000 americans enter —-> 2 of them are in finals.

8 Koreans enter —-> 4 of them are in finals.

LOL just pray that  Koreans don’t travel to US next year. :p

    • Barry Hui

  • Chris Rumler

What about MK?  I’m pretty sure that I heard that MK 9 had players from eight different countries playing in the tournament.

Edit: Oh, but I don’t know if anyone that wasn’t UK or US went deep enough to qualify for this list. Just now realized that.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maurice-Fleshman/100001737340513 Maurice Fleshman

Two UK players and one guy from Canada got out of pools.

  • ReoAyanami

Will there be data SFxT as well??

  • http://twitter.com/1000Deaths Roy Bromwell

Damn, planet Earth really came together for AE. Good shit.
