Daigo Umehara’s Special Event at Taito Station Game World Tournament Results

Today in Shinjuku, Tokyo, pro gamer Daigo Umehara of Team Mad Catz is holding a special event at Taito Station Shinjuku Game World as a precursor to this year’s EVO, in honor of a special guest. The event, “Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012 EVO Prefinals,” is a tournament played under “EVO rules,” using a double-elimination format, but with a 64 player maximum limit.

Invited to the event is special guest Osamu Ichikawa. Though Osamu was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of one, he doesn’t let that stop him from playing Street Fighter, playing using his cheek and chin. Osamu will play Daigo Umehara in an exhibition match as part of the event, and will also be competing in the actual tournament. Bon-chan, Kazunoko and Fuudo will also be participating in the event. Thanks to a donation campaign, Osamu will also be coming to EVO next week, fulfilling a long-time dream of his to compete in the world-class tournament.

While the event starts on Saturday in Japan, due to time difference, it begins at 11PM EDT, 8 PM PDT Friday in the US. Taito Station special events are usually streamed on their Ustream channel, and though the stream is of rather low quality, footage from the events is typically uploaded to YouTube.

He throws one fireball, Daigo supers through it on reaction, then throws meatie U1 to chip him out but Bonchan reversals through it safely wirth EX TU too far for Daigo to punish correctly.
