Arcade UFO to Host First US Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Super Battle Opera 2012 Qualifiers July 14th – 15th

Moving right along from the Super Arcade news, Ryan “Fubarduck” Harvey just announced that Arcade UFO, his arcade in Austin, Texas, has been awarded two Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 qualifier spots for this year’s Super Battle Opera. They will be hosting two separate, double-elimination tournaments on Julty 14th and 15th to determine who will represent the United States in Japan come August.

Arcade UFO will be fronting half the cost of round-trip tickets to Japan for both players, so this is an great opportunity if you happen to live in the area or don’t mind traveling to show off your skills. With two spots available, the event is sure to draw incredible amounts of talent, making for one fantastic weekend of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 action. We’ve posted all the details you’ll need to know below, but be sure to head on over to the official Shoryuken forum thread to ask any questions you may have.

Registration

All registration will be on-site before the event begins. There is no online registration or pre-registering for this event.
A U.S. Passport is required to travel to Japan. It is recommended that you apply for a Passport NOW if you are attending this event. Expediting a Passport request costs MORE MONEY, so you will save by doing it now!

U.S. Passport Processing Times

To participate in the SBO Qualifier event, you must be a U.S. Citizens. Non-U.S. Citizens are not permitted to enter. You will need a U.S. Passport to travel to Japan if you win the SBO Qualifier. If you make it to Grand Finals and do not yet have a Passport, we will discuss your options for acquiring one in time for SBO. Otherwise, your spot may go to the 2nd place finisher.

SBO Finals is on August 4th and 5th, 2012, so you MUST be available this week to travel to Japan if you win!

Registration Fee
$30 per player – Entry guarantees your spot for BOTH tournaments
Prize: SBO Spot + 50% cost of a round-trip ticket to Japan from a major U.S. Airport of your choosing.

You MUST furnish the other 50% of travel funds yourself.
No pot split; entry fees will help sponsor the winning player’s plane tickets.

General Rules:

– The winning player of each tournament will gain entry into the final bracket of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 at Super Battle Opera 2012, and will have both winners’ plane tickets will be 50% sponsored by Arcade UFO. You must take a round trip flight from the U.S., departing from and arriving back to one major U.S. airport of your choice. The flight will be to and from Narita Airport (Tokyo).
– Only the winning players will be granted this privilege, and the winning players must be available for the week of SBO to travel to the event and represent the USA.
SBO is taking place this year on August 4th & 5th, 2012, in Narita, Chiba-ken (very close to the airport, 45 minutes away from Tokyo by train). Remember to take the time difference and travel time into consideration.
– If you cause physical damage to any machine at Arcade UFO in any way for any reason (beating on machine/control panels) or are extremely rude or unreasonable beyond control, you will be ejected from the tournament and venue with no refund.
– In the case of a joystick or button malfunction, you must report the malfunction DURING THE ROUND MATCH. Once a round is over, it’s done.
– If a joystick or button malfunction is reported, it will be tested thoroughly. If there is determined to be an issue, the machine will be repaired promptly and the match will be replayed. If there are determined to be no issues, you will be awarded a loss for the match. All rulings will be final.
– We will assist the winning players in locating housing in Japan (at their expense, if necessary), and I will accompany you on your trip as an interpreter.

We will use challonge.com to generate an unbiased, random tournament bracket. The bracket will be generated completely randomly; no “do-overs”, no seeding, no floating brackets, no shadiness.

– Arcade version on head-to-head Delta HD Cabinets (16:9 aspect ratio, no lag).
– Built-in Joysticks are Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y, buttons are Sanwa OSBF-30.

– You may optionally hook up your own PS3 pad or PS3 Joystick.
– We’re not sure if character/team switching will be allowed yet. We are awaiting a ruling from SBO.
