Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Release Date Set for the Week of September 10th; Namco Bandai Reveals European Collector’s Edition

Namco Bandai Games recently announced that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be released worldwide on the week of September 10, 2012. It was also revealed that Michelle Chang, Angel, Ancient Ogre, and Kunimitsu will be available immediately at launch if you pre-order the game.

In Europe, you’ll be given access to Michelle and Angel if you pre-order from Shopto.net, wheras Zavvi will offer Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre. Namco also announced the “We Are Tekken” edition of Tekken Tag 2 for the UK. This collector’s edition will be exclusive to GAME and comes with a metal case, the soundtrack, an additional CD with remixes, a 200 page art book, and a behind the scenes video with Katsuhiro Harada.

Unfortunately, Namco has not released details on how the DLC will be handled in other regions yet, nor have they announced plans for a collector’s edition.

NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. today announced TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT™2, the next installment in the award-winning fighting game franchise, will release to retailers worldwide the week of September 10, 2012 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 will boast the largest roster of fighters in TEKKEN™ history and fighting game fans who pre-order the game at select retailers can look forward to playing with one or more of these additional DLC characters: Michelle Chang, Angel, Kunimitsu or Ancient Ogre immediately at launch.

On day one of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2’s launch, fans that placed their pre-orders with Shopto.net will have access to Michelle Chang and Angel DLC, whereas Zavvi.com will offer Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre.

UK TEKKEN fans will also have access to the “We are TEKKEN” edition of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 exclusively from GAME. This collector’s edition is packed in an exclusive metal case including the following content: the original soundtrack of the game and an additional music CD with remixes, an art book with more than 200 pages, a behind the scene video with Harada San and other special guests giving you their best Tokyo tips.

TEKKEN shattered fighting game genre barriers when it unveiled tag based combat with the release of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT in 1999. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 continues to break boundaries with the introduction of the new Fight Lab mode, where players can customize the moves and appearance of new training character, Combot. Players that clear the innovative Fight Lab will have mastered the complexities of TEKKEN and own their own customized Combot, which can be used in offline and non-ranked online play.

In addition to this, one-on-one fighting and solo fighter vs. tag-team battles have been added to enhance the range of gameplay options for seasoned TEKKEN fans while providing an easier point of access to new players. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 also includes Pair Play, where up to four players can each control a character in the ultimate team battle.

TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft the week of September 10, 2012 and hits stores across Europe on September 14, 2012.

Wait a minute… does that mean if we get the we are tekken edition from GAME, we won’t get any of the DLC characters early?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/João-Grassini/100003044683998 João Grassini

i don’t know but eventually you will have them just as everybody else,so i don’t think it should a concern

    • KKFulcrum

Since its the retailers giving out the pre-order bonuses, it’ll probably work just like the regular version.

    I want that art book.

  • NORCALsubtL

i’m disappointed they are breaking up the dlc characters like that, but whatever….

    • Kevin A

I’m just happy they are free…and I don’t have to go pre order from best buy to get a character.

Looking at you soul calibur 5

      • spectaa

I’m disappointed we don’t have them all by preo ordering but since all of this will be free eventually, it’s all good.

  • http://twitter.com/juiceciuj donald mcronald

preorder from both retailers and return one after you redeem dl keys?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/João-Grassini/100003044683998 João Grassini

that is some sick yomi you got there

  • Supreme Tech

This is trash give us a game with it or something worthwhile behind the scenes meh… soundtracks meh… metal case meh…. Artbook hmmm ok i guess..if its base price then its worth it otherwise no deal

    • spectaa

You think they are a into charity or something?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Salman-Hannan/504153545 Salman Hannan

Artbooks usually cost upwards of about £20, soundtrack CDs can cost about £10. Seeing as this is stuff you can ONLY get from the limited edition. I’d say it’s a good deal. I’m just hoping it still comes with pre-order characters.

    want. want 5

  • Maxim Cryseria

That artbook looks real classy *drools* BTW the 2 DLC characters that I don’t choose would be in-game unlockables right?

  • http://www.facebook.com/Syxx573 Daniel Jones

oh i see namco wants to hemorrhage money just like capcom does seeing they are moving in the same direction as them

    • KKFulcrum

Pre-ordering won’t cost extra, and the characters come out for free for everyone else post-launch. So no one ever pays for the characters.

Interesting looking Collectors Edition: Urge to preorder rising
Available only to GAME: Urge to preorder gone.

  • http://twitter.com/BigguDani Danny Alvarado

Too bad the folks who pre-order won’t get what they paid for…. or their money back……

    • spectaa

You’ll have to explain this one to me though.

A link to Kotaku? I don’ know man…

          • http://twitter.com/BigguDani Danny Alvarado

It’s just news, ignore that it’s inside the kotaku site. other sites have this story up anyway so whatever.

stay autistic. And I like how people find a way to bitch about FREE DLC just because it isn’t available at launch.

          • Ben Kelly

You didn’t read the article.  The problem is that some people who preordered games through GAME will not be getting their game, nor will they be getting a refund.  That is worth bitching about.

I threw my piggy bank at the screen but nothing happened….

Now I need a new monitor

    • gigantor21

Remind me never to go to the store with you. Ever.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yan-Zhao/10516382 Yan Zhao

I really hope the collectors edition isnt europe only. I’m a sucker for those. Hope the US gets a CE or LE as well.

  • http://twitter.com/EDarkness NadiaED

I’m annoyed at these DLC characters. Why are they locking away these characters? If they’re ready let everybody have them. I don’t care if it’s free. I care that some people have to wait for all the characters. Are they trying to increase the longevity of the people’s minds who stray easier? Any DLC is bad, don’t care if it’s free.

    • Hammer

Trust me, there are enough characters within Tekken to keep you occupied for 3 months.

      • http://www.facebook.com/where.awesome.happens Ivan Tullao

Yeah… Just learning the basics take a while… practicing a character to reach intermediate level takes a month or more already… We’re not yet talking about learning to counter each character… and there’s 44 of them already…

That 3 months will fly quick… I’ll assure you that…

    • spectaa

      “DLC is bad”
We live in the DLC era dude, better get used to it fast.

    • Robomitsu

Complaining about free extra content? You have gone full retard.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yan-Zhao/10516382 Yan Zhao

Then pre-order the game since you’re gona get it anyway?

Are you seriously complaining for the sake of complaining?

    • ZenTzen

first, you can unlock them ingame, this is just a “dont give yourself the trouble to unlock them” free DLC

      • Yuko Asho

I just wanna know what the in-game conditions are going to end up being.  Is it just a time-release like the old arcade machines or are there special requirements like Soul Calibur V (seriously, I hated having to go through the story mode to get Alpha Pat and Pyrrha Omega.

        • Guestmay93

          Stop being lazy.

    • Guestmay93

Stop bitching it’s annoying. Seriously who complains about free shit.

  • MiloNZ

Awesome! I want the metal case and soundtracks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yahkim-Siffel/100001370016186 Yahkim Siffel

It doesn’t really matter since everyone will be getting the characters eventually anyway, but I hate it when you have to choose which place to preorder from, because there offering different shit; I really hope they don’t do that here, but  they probably will. Nevertheless, this is still good shit from Namco Bandai, and I won’t nitpick on small stuff like this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/illness690 John Taylor

So wait, what if you preorder from Gamestop?

If our collector’s edition is anything like this one, I’m totally grabbing it.

Separating preorder bonuses by store is complete garbage though. It doesn’t really matter too much since the DLC will be released for free anyways, but separating preorder bonuses by store is one of those things that’s just unfair no matter the logistics.
