Capcom Addresses the Street Fighter X Tekken Version 1.04 Freeze Glitch, Corrective Patch Planned for Mid-June

Early this morning Capcom updated the Street Fighter X Tekken official blog regarding several topics, including the freeze glitch introduced in the May 16 patch, caused when the knife from Rolento’s Stinger collides with a normal projectile. Producer Tomoaki Ayano apologized for the fatal bug in the latest update, stating that the development team is currently looking into the specific cause of the glitch and preparing to take immediate corrective action. The corrective patch is currently planned for release in mid-June.

Ayano also announced that Capcom will be doing a collaborative campaign with ramen maker Nissin for the renewal of Nissin’s Deka-O line of products, from June 4 until July 31. By scanning the QR code on the lid of participating products, consumers will gain access to an original web timer that displays a SFXTK match.

Ayano also mentioned that the PS Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken is reaching the final stages of development.

  Of course if they had done any QA at all they would have caught it before release. They didn’t even need to be focused tests, they could have just messed around with Rolento and any of the fire ball characters and they would have found this on accident about as quickly as it took the fans to find it.

        To a developer the error is unforgivable. There’s no “what shall we test to make sure it works” decision when you change something in a piece of software. You have a set of routines that run that make sure a set of events and scenarios always works. Then some exception testing, regardless of what was actually changed. Fireballs colliding with any and all projectiles would be a basic, fundamental event.
        
        It’s a coding/testing failure without a doubt.

        My guess is that the deadline was coming up fast and everything was broken/rushed…especially the engine. I think most of the obvious glitches were found in QA and there was no time to fix them. Just because QA finds a bug its up to the development side to fix or leave the bug in the game. I really thought they should of literally taken the CVS2 engine/graphics and animate everything…Which would of cost more money to develop?

    yeah it can corrupt the hard drives etc, I’m not to sure of the actual damage it causes, we were always told at Sony that if we encountered Class A bugs ( in this case the console freezing,) to use the console to restart the machine

        My hard drive crashed when I had to hard reset it after PS3 after COD froze. Had to take it in to be serviced, and they ended up just sending me a new one o_O.

        You obviously don’t know what happens when you hard reset. Especially when it comes to systems that use Hard Drives that spin at speeds up to 7200 RPM. You will lose data if you stop a hard drive that’s spinning that fast. Hard resetting ANYthing that uses a hard drive isn’t recommended, period.

  Excuse me may I ask what QA team for Sony you were on? because any REAL QA team would know that its not that crazy that this made it into the game because I was an intern at UFG for Sony so I know how intense this gets when it comes to testing and there is no way a real tester would ever say what you just said. Why does it have to take so long? I know that they have to get the patches approved or whatever, but honestly mid June is waaaaaay to long for something like this. I hope for their sake they don’t mess up again, because if people have to wait til June 16th or whatever date and there is another major glitch people are gonna be pissed. If that happens the community should declare this game dead, it should be dropped from EVO, and replaced with another game.

Also, I hope that Capcom has realized how much that they have hurt the potential sales for the Vita version of this game, by releasing a half assed version in hopes to make tons of money. I mean do they really think that this game is gonna sale well now on the PSP with all the negativity the console version has drawn to itself in a VERY short period of time? It’s HIGHLY unlikely to say the least.

  They gotta figure out what exactly causes the freeze, develop a fix for it, find out if the fix breaks anything else, then get it approved by both Sony and Microsoft. It’s not a two-day process.
  
  And as much as I personally would like to see SFxT dropped from EVO (especially in favor of Launch Party Errday), it’s just way to late to do it. You’ve got people who have already booked rooms and flights, and to force a good chunk of them to cancel less than two months out would be insane…
  
  …although it does bring up an interesting thought. We’re seven weeks out from EVO, and for a good sized chunk of participants, the next 3-4 weeks will be unavailable for practicing. What, if anything, can be done? Will they decide to run on 1.02 and ban infinites? Will they sit back and hope 1.04 part 2 fixes things? What if THAT patch includes a glitch on par with this one?

      It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. The tournament I’m going to on Saturday (Mall Brawl in Roseville, MN) is running 1.02 because of this. I wonder what UFGT (next week) is going to do. I’m also interested to see what CEO does, as their tourney falls just after the patch window, leaving minimal time to work around something if another glitch is found.

      If capcom didn’t release their games so close to EVO they wouldn’t have that much of a problem, and plenty of time to fix any issues like this. Capcom knows that it gets huge support from the FGC, and EVO is the biggest moment in the FGC, so them releasing a broken game, and not really trying their hardest to fix it will ultimately have us drop support on their crappy product. To be honest, even if they did fix the game before EVO, why should it even still be in the line-up? all the patches have done so far is just change the way people are playing.

  Mid-June is crazy fast on Capcom’s part. Assume they fixed the bug in one day, which probably didn’t happen. A week of internal testing to find anything else, which is short cuz it’s usually two weeks, followed by two weeks minimum of processing/testing at the Sony/Microsoft brings us to…mid June. :^)

Do the people who keep saying “Please Capcom give up on this game” actually think that’s legitimate advice? The game isn’t going away just because they, personally, have a panic attack every time they see the name mentioned.

That said, the situation is dire for Capcom in the PR department. This game was so not finished; it was at least six months away from true completion and a proper QA pass.

While it is true that patches don’t happen in a couple of days (and thanks to people finally starting to understand how this works), it is still somewhat the fault of the console platform holders. Their process for approving updates and patches is increasingly out of step with how games must be monitored and updated.

If SFxT were a PC (only) game, while an emergency hotfix for a crash bug might still take a week or more, it wouldn’t take literally a full month to roll out. That, and the fact that the platform holders rape publishers with what they charge for deploying patches.

  I do think it’s legitimate advice. If Capcom sells another 100,000 units of this game in its entire lifetime I would be completely shocked (and it’s only that high because of the 12 DLC characters). Anyone that wanted it bought it day one, other people (non fgc) aren’t gonna go buy it, don’t see any reason they would at all. It’s not worth all of their time and effort other than to the like 20,000 people that care about these glitches. They need to drop this game but they’re trying to do it without making us more upset and leaving us with a broken POS. From a business perspective though, leave this and put 2 years into making Darkstalkers perfect.

I am grateful for this game. I am grateful that Capcom and other game companies are going to learn from Capcoms mistakes.
- NEVER rush the production of a game or patches. Do it quick or slow, but do it RIGHT.
- Hire some serious game testers, when producing a game LOOK FOR the FLAWS in your game, not the good. And LOOK HARD. (fall back to the first point if you have to)

- (this third one is my favourite one) LISTEN TO THE FANS! They are your source of income, if you listen to them, fans feel appreciated and appreciate being listened to and earns their loyalty. Blizzard is extremely good at this. But obviously you can’t listen to the fan ALL the time, but capcom hasn’t listened to any of what the fans asked.

  Listening to the fans is why we have weak ass system mechanics in this game. Pandora COULD of been hype, Cross Assault could of been useful with interesting setups outside of just another way to switch out in 1v1.   This just happened recently. Ono has nothing to do with the recent bug. It’s just one of those things tha thappens with all games once and awhile. MMO’s are a big example of it. on SWTOR the game im playing now we have a similar issue going on.

it’s a shitty game anyway? Has anyone ever actually tried to watch a tournament for this? Even recently? the combat is so stale and the clock is so fucking slow that it encourages boring strategies like hitting and running, turtling, etc… Even Justin Wong’s matches, which are usually entertaining, are pretty boring.

Capcom, stop making light medium heavy light medium heavy games and make an ACTUAL fighting game for once. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but make another regular street fighter.
