Clockw0rk Joins Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal Developer as Community Manager

Already brimming with fighting game talent such as Maj and Ed Ma, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal developer Superbot Entertainment has added another member of the fighting game community to their ranks in the form of Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago. The famed San Diego Marvel vs Capcom 2 player and innovator of the Strider/Doom lockdown has recently updated his Facebook profile to reflect his new job as Community Manager for Superbot Entertainment. We here at Shoryuken wish the best for both Daniel and Superbot.

Aw man, grats to clockw0rk i guess but he’s always too busy doing something other than play games. When mvc3 was in its last legs before umvc3 came out he was too busy making the umvc3 guide. When umvc3 came out with his favorite character he’s too busy making the sfxt guide. Now he’s going to be too busy helping make this game. I want to see him play as often as he did when mvc3 first came out. But I know if I was popular and was offered this job I would take it so I understand.

Gota hand it to Sony, they certainly know how to make good PR at the very least.

If such outstanding FGC members are working on and supporting this game, there might yet still be chances for this game to be a decent competitive fighter. We’ll see when the game gets released.

The guy didn’t even play Cerebella and I’m pretty sure he only ever plays 3 character teams.       I think I proved you can beat ASSists just fine. I sent him, and everyone ELSE using Double, to loser’s in the first place…and I didn’t lose grand finals because of Hornet Bomber assist, I lost because of Double and Cerebella as *point* characters.

        I wasnt the only one who wasnt competing. It looks like just about everyone in the FGC is giving up on TrollGirls. How many players entered the other tournaments that weekend compared to yours? (who didnt have to have pity entries by staff(ed) members)
        Go KOs Finest’s stream and take on Dacidbro and the other really good Double players.
        And you didnt do anything special. It was 2/3 set for non GF. In GF you were downloaded and couldnt keep up the pace and lost badly.

        See, I see the big picture. This type of experience will take him futher than most people can dream. Does’nt matter how bad the game does, the experience is far better. It is transferable, he can take that experience anywhere. Another developer is not gonna say…”Oh you helped with THAT game, no thanks.” It doesn’t work that way. He most likley would be able to work in the industry (if he chooses) after this project much easier than someone with a 4 year degree and no experience. Fact of life.

        I think obstacles are fine if they are designed smart. If it’s done in a way that is avoidable or can be used as a stratagy to win then yes. If the obsticals are randomized to hurt someone then it’s not a good stage design. It should alwasy be neutral on all fronts.

        Tripping is only in Brawl, and stage hazards can 100% be accounted for with a decent tournament map pool. Plenty of stages with non-random hazards. Where are your facts?

      To be honest – Smash Brawl’s lack of competitiveness is less a failure of the *critical* game mechanics, and more the decisions of _the creator himself_ putting in small mechanics that create randomness (random tripping) in an attempt to make the game unfit for competitive play.
      
      What do we define as “competitive”? That it is, in theory capable of supporting higher strategic play? Or that in practice, people *are* playing it competitively?
      
      The latter exists – people are “seriously” playing this game. *Despite* the game developer’s desire to “casualify” the game.
      
      As for your assumption that the inability to turn off stage hazards or pick all maps makes a game “uncompetitive” – may I remind you that many competitive games (not just fighting games) are the mods of existing games – that is to say, somebody went out there, fiddled with a game, and presented the settings in such a configuration that competitive play for it is possible. Who is to say that the likes of Project M or even simply standardizing what game settings should be disqualify Smash from being a competitive game?
      
      I’m sorry Ian, but it seems to me that this notion that Smash cannot be a competitive game stems more from an emotional attachment to one’s expectation that all fighting games should conform to a single standard.
