So for the same price as the game I can buy more costumes? Woo…

    • http://twitter.com/srslygtfo Mr. X

Considering the arcade crowd has probably spent well over $100 playing and unlocking items, this is a sweet deal.

    • Thomaz Barros

considering the number of items, i say that’s a decent deal

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000009808232 Luke Steiger

This game is crazy worth it at $15 though. It’s nice to see a company cut so much off on the base price tag to appeal to a wider audience and make up costs on optional cosmetic items ONLY. Way I see it, its a “knight-in-shining-armor” compared to the latest Capcom fighter, dare I mention its horrible name.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Gethoff-Mahfacebuk/558552166 Gethoff Mahfacebuk

No mention it all you want, they need to be constantly reminded that they let Capcom run them for their cash AGAIN instead of exploring alternative products lol.

    • http://twitter.com/BlueNarciss Shakir Ali

Over 14,000 items and you’re complaining? Also, if you must know, due to XBLA size limitations Sega couldn’t fit the Costume/Item packs into the digital download…hence why they’re seperate.

  • http://www.squidoo.com/fightinggamesonline fighting games online

so..is this like an extension like SSF4AE or is this a whole downloadable game…I don’t think I have enough room on my HDD if that is the case :(

    • http://twitter.com/srslygtfo Mr. X

Whole game, you do not need VF5 to play this.

With a downloadable release on home consoles, maybe we can FINALLY get more people playing Virtua Fighter.

  • http://twitter.com/AzureRevolver ツンデレ Azure

The game is only 14.99 ? Wow now its hard to not give this game a chance.

    • HotDunk

And yet people did not feel the same about Skullgirls prior to release

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Gethoff-Mahfacebuk/558552166 Gethoff Mahfacebuk

Some people aren’t gonna enjoy the look of those characters, straight up. In this game you can make em look however the fuck you want.

The real reason people aren’t gonna give this game a chance is because it takes too much thought to play. Hopefully AM2 gets their money before they realize it and go back to SF4.

      • Jon T

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that VF is a proven and examplory fighting game, and Skullgirls is laughable trash that looks like a 14 year old’s GCSE school book drawings have come to life and started fighting each other.

  • SovietGrammar

    This or Skullgirls?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Webster-Snow-Jr/100000991474850 Webster Snow Jr.

I have to be honest and say…get both games if you can. But if I had to choose I’d say VF.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ian-Adams/1087913285 Ian Adams

      what Webster said

    • fiks

Really depends on what you want. If you’re not familiar with 3d fighters and really like things like airdashes, big combos, weird charas like Miss Fortune, go with Skullgirls. If youre more of a 3d fighters person and maybe enjoy different things about neutral and mixup, go with VF.

Another thing to consider is your area. If your area has more airdasher players, probably go with SG. If your area has more 3d players than airdashers, probably go with VF.
Netcode may also be a consideration if you have good internet. i know SG has great netcode but I dont know much about VF’s netcode.

    • HotDunk

      Consider this:

Skullgirls is an indie title made by a really small team and features a lot of craftmanship and artistry that reflects a lot of blood, sweat and tears along with devotion to the medium and genre. We’re talking best looking 2d animation in games, here. And it’s good.
Virtua Fighter 5 FS is a port/retweak of a 5 year old Sega game. And it’s good.

I have the former, will get the latter. Perhaps your mistake was not buying Skullgirls on release. As I recall, the two games together are half the cost of SFxT and each is better.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Walter-Thomas/100000923690574 Walter Thomas

What hotdunk said, these are both $15 games that when put together are half of the price of a new game.

If you have the $30 bucks to spare you should buy both to support good affordable games.

      • Jon T

“We’re talking best looking 2d animation in games, here.”
I need a moment to laugh at that… I suggest you go back and look at 1994′s DarkStalkers or Street Fighter III. Not only is the animation immeasurably superior, the drawings that are animating are incredible (a world away from the laughable, amateurish garbage found in the pile of trash you are discussing).
The answer to the question “This or Skullgirls?: You can’t even mention the two games in the same breath. Virtua Fighter is a legend.

    • http://twitter.com/srslygtfo Mr. X

      Both you cheap motherfucker.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Dayless.Sunset Julius Vortes

No I believe each character will already have 6 costums but you’ll have to pay for their dlc items. which is only about 3-4 bucks. Though it’s worth it.

        Did you read? $5 each.

OMG THANK YOU JESUS!!!! I will officiall be dropping almost everything I play for this game now!!

  • http://twitter.com/Delriach Delriach

The post was updated with the latest trailer, in case you guys missed it.

  • Sage_Areli

that’s cool. I get to pay for items now that were free in the first version of a 5 year old game.

    • http://twitter.com/Shidosha Its The Shirt!

This is false – all the base items are there – not to mention the game is FIFTEEN dollars compared to your $60 dollars.
Also: The unlockable costumes AREN’T stored on the disc, so its not so bad. And remember, you don’t HAVE to buy the costumes to enjoy the game. give it a shot it’s retail is cheaper than most pre-owned

      • Sage_Areli

oh don’t get me wrong. I’m definitely buying the game. It’s just coming from playing VF5 on ps3 and unlocking these things for free is a big difference. Making something cost that was free before is different than paying for something that was never free to begin with.

        • HotDunk

But…. the game is $15? And the costumes… are dumb? It’s a deal if you ask me. We get the game for cheap, Sega gets more money from idiot moron fools. Fair trade.

      • http://twitter.com/gogotwit Gojira Twit

Uh no, they’re all stored in that data you pay the $15 for. You will see them all the time without downloading a single K of DLC. What would be the point of buying them if nobody else could see them but you?

        • http://twitter.com/srslygtfo Mr. X

SEGA already answered that the only people who can see the items will be people who purchased them.

        • http://twitter.com/Shidosha Its The Shirt!

it may come later, who knows? but Microsoft has content size restrictions which would have been exceeded had sega included everything in. maybe a seperate compatability pack will come soon, it would be nice. But for now I’m happy just supporting the game as is. Besides, its $45 for everything. I can live with that

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1201072734 Dominic Damil

sega will get all of my money with this game!! <3

    • Buujie_Johnson

Hate to troll but; $15 for the game plus $95 for all the DLC? I need the job you got lol!

      • sibarraz

actually if you buy the packs you just need to spend 30 extra dollars

        • Buujie_Johnson

Thanks for the clarification.  Need to read better.  I will be very content with just 2 costume packs at 10 dollars!

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/S5BPMEBXR36RAMH7CAJUPAYAB4 Jacob

But, for 5 more bucks, you can get all the items for 7-8 other characters along with your 2. Unless your 2 characters are in different bundles. Then it’d probably be worth just the 10 dollars for you. But if they’re in the same pack, it’d be worth it to drop the extra 5 dollars for 7-8 extra characters item packs. You never know, you might end up dabbling with them other characters. It is your money, so do what ya do. Just thought i’d throw that out there for ya.

          • Buujie_Johnson

I wish it was like that, but the 2 characters that I want are in 2 different packs. But I am slowly convincing myself to spend $45 for everything. I love the game that much.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Supa-Rubz/561380467 Supa Rubz

    take that capcom!

  • fiks

So VF fans, what makes you most hype about playing VF? Is it something your character does best? Something about the essentials of how the game works? Or something about neutral or mixup? Get people excited!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Hagaishi215 Hagaishi Kun

    Niceeee!!!

  • rtdzign

I would have been mad about DLC….but the game itself is only $15. So instead of paying $60 for a game and having to spend $30 for it to be complete. I spend $15 for a game missing costumes and can spend $45 If I want them.

    • HotDunk

The idea of spending twice as much as the cost of the game itself for costumes…. *pukes*

      • http://twitter.com/Shidosha Its The Shirt!

the luxury is choice. but i guess if enough people complained, sega COULD up the price of the game alone to $60 that way the DLC costumes don’t cost “twice as much”…

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/S5BPMEBXR36RAMH7CAJUPAYAB4 Jacob

It’s easily a $60 game we’re getting for $15. And $30 for 14,000+ items seems like a pretty good deal. Especially if you want to compare that to any other fighting game’s DLC. So $45 dollars for the game plus all them items is ridiculosly good.

  • http://twitter.com/Shidosha Its The Shirt!

It’s weird – people are saying “EEW Why would i pay the same amount for the game as I would for the costumes?”
And it leaves me confused… You guys have already paid about $16 for 1 alternate, maybe TWO for some characters – this game is giving you over 600 or so items for multiple characters and you guys say you are paying too much?

And it’s not like theres hidden character data here – its optional cosmetics!
Why the complaints ESPECIALLY when you’ve already forked that money over in the past, AND the FULL GAME is cheaper than most DLC?

  • http://twitter.com/Razentsu Paolo Jardiolin

Wow, what a deal. That’s some ridiculous value. Well, I guess it’s time to learn Virtua Fighter!

      • soakrates

I wasn’t at Final Round, but I don’t know that “scared” is the right way to put it. It’s possible that people just wanted to sit down and learn a bit about the game and got a little tired of getting their faces mashed into the ground by the veteran players there, which would be understandable. Either way, there’s no reason to be afraid of the VF community. It’s probably the friendliest and most welcoming FG community there is.

            lol

    • soakrates

That’s only if you individually buy all the DLC packs for each character, I believe. If you want costumes and whatnot for the entire cast in bulk, it’ll be $30 for the two DLC packs described above. In other words, $45 for the game on one console with all the DLC items. At least that’s what the press release seems to be saying.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TIC7WNRSMFBSCLF6OR6JQJAAZA sb

it said additional so im assuming the 2 bundles are different from the individuals i hope its like you said tho

        • soakrates

It’s possible, but either way this is still a great value. $15 gets you a complete, solid fighting game and if you want to spend the extra scratch on DLC, you can get a lot without even paying as much as you would for your average retail game. Sega done good on this one.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Gethoff-Mahfacebuk/558552166 Gethoff Mahfacebuk

So anyone can answer me this:

It will be 600-950 items per character or in total?

    • http://twitter.com/Akai_JC Akai

600-950 items per character (this includes color swap items) which if you purchase all DLC items is 12,000+ items.

If you do not consider color swap items, it should be at least 130 to over 200 unique items per character.
