Can someone explain to me why SCV’s finals are on Saturday while MK9, BBCSE and KOFXIII is on Sunday? Even for a “tentative” schedule it’s shocking how much the community tries to undersell that game while pushing other games like KOFXIII that never has a better turnout in any major so far.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stone.nguyen Stone Nguyen

Soul Calibur community here actually requested it to be on Saturday.

Disappointed with this weekend. Tournament ran horribly imo and the stream wasn’t even enjoyable. I looked here to see the results and Marvel is already done? And only Grand Finals on final days and not Top 8? smh

    • Anonymous

I saw a lot of SFXT, some MK, some BB, some Soul Calibur, but no marvel. Did they finally show it after Soul Calibur yesterday? I wanted some mihe anime gang signs :( (but they didn’t have any camera filming the players it seems anyway).

      • Jake Long

They did show Marvel.  They actually ran it all the way through because Mihe had to leave that night, so it somehow started after it was supposed to and ended before it was supposed to.

  • http://twitter.com/generalskirmish General Skirmish

Stream was beyond a joke. terrible internet or not. theres no excuse for broadcasting at the wrong aspect ratio, terrible sound quality (the gains on the mic set too high) and no camera setups what so ever. and apart from james chen, commentry was extremely awful in general.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517828001 Alfredo Harris

Your assessment is spot on. ” Eat a d!ck, Mihe already won when justin didn’t show up . Eat a d!ck, Eat a d1ck” I cringed every time that guy was on the mic. I wish also they wouldn’t of kept saying marvel is next, and then show another game. They did that at least 4 times. I don’t know how the tourney was for people there, but stream wise it was beyond bad

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Damien-Walton/100003229766731 Damien Walton

The tournament was worse in person then watching it on streams. Marvel top 32 was supposed to start at 1pm, we didn’t start til like 6 pm, then on top of that they just randomly stream top 3 marvel at 11pm after mk,bb,scv so no one will see marvel at all unless you stayed through the other games. It’s a fucking joke

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YV2437XOBMNL5UI3GR3PWIDHWY Rong

Yeah, I’m not sure what they meant by eat a penis so many times. It might be that guy really wanted to eat a penis himself.

But according to many people who were watching the stream, that guy was in fact, a huge talking penis. So I guess he really wanted to eat himself.

        Self-Cannibalism!

I wish also they wouldn’t of kept saying marvel is next, and then show another game. They did that at least 4 times. I don’t know how the tourney was for people there, but stream wise it was beyond bad

    • http://twitter.com/Gaarus Robert Yeager

I can’t believe people consider this a “major”, this was the worst tournament I have ever seen or heard of. Hopefully if they have it next year they will be more prepared and actually stream it with good quality.

The only wise thing to do was to gtfo this mess. Shoutouts to Broly Legs though.

Wrong aspect ratio, terrible sound quality, no camera setups, and awful commentary. I felt like I was watching a Brawl stream the whole time.

If Texas Showdown wants to -run tournament matches in the bathroom
-have no free stream available for 2 days outta 3
    -use paid stream
-Use one setup to run UMVC3

That’s up to them. It’s their prerogative, but at least be HONEST about it. So Evo can give their seeding points to another, more well-run tournament.

I checked out their thread on SRK, they advertised dual streams, TEN YEARS OF TOURNAMENT RUNNING EXPERIENCE, and I thought “Nice this will be another cool event on par with Final Round”. Nothing could be further from the truth.

disclaimer: Props to the secondary stream manager ShinKensou for doing his best to run a watchable stream on Saturday even though the tourney organizer didn’t give him the connection he was promised.

There was no “main stream”, we saw ZERO AE matches even though they were a lot of good AE players there, and very hype matches from what I’ve heard. We only saw top 3 marvel…

    • Rob Weston

The tournament had a lot of problems. Power outages, disorganization, general mayham… I don’t think being attached to an anime convention does it any favors. The staff all seemed pretty stressed out (justifiably) and everything kept getting delayed because of the technical issues.

A personal gripe of mine being that for all of Friday and most of saturday, I could find absolutely no SFxT casuals. Which is one of the main reasons I was there. At least i got to play Skullgirls.

Lots of shady shit went down in this tournament according to the mIRC monsters.

As for the “stream” quality… yea. Non-existent. w/e was on the secondary stream was borderline unwatchable + garbage commentary.

Why does the EVO hierarchy continue to allow this venue to host “majors”? /perplexed

Shoutouts to BrolyLegs for placing top-8 and doing well over-all. Major respect for that guy.

So let me get this right.  Two streams were promised, only 1 was there half of the time, when it was up the stream was horrible, only a total of 15 setups were in use with 1 dedicated to MVC3, players had to pay $60 for a 3 day anime con pass to compete for $10 tourneys, Houston players were given seedings because they participated in the Planet Zero ranbats, the top players in the country were hardly shown on stream, and in general, it was a clusterfuck?  Absolutely pathetic and I hope Texas Showdown is never given Evo status again, fuck those guys.

    • http://twitter.com/generalskirmish General Skirmish

$60 dollars to compete in a $10 tourneys…… that is bad

yeah and we were shunned into a corner the whole fucking time with zero power, in my SFXT pool the power was going out mid match, some of the people who came to the event were awesome, met some chill people but im avoiding anything by planet zero in the future this event was terrible, gonna make it out to CEO to see how a real tournament is run…

It pissed me off. I haven’t been to an anime convention in years, and being forced to pay for one, then get screwed out of getting to play casuals because of how disorganized the whole event was did not sit well with me. The con, like most, sucked and felt like a waste of time and a distraction (not to mention a massive drain) on the quality of the tournament.

The only reason I don’t want them to lose their EVO status is because then I’d have to drive even farther (was already a crappy hour long drive for me.) That Planet Zero player seed stuff is ridiculous, as well.

  • http://twitter.com/drew_L_ Andrew L.

I was also hearing from someone that attended Texas Showdown that Mihe wanted to complete the Marvel tourney on Saturday because he wanted to do the convention stuff instead of doing finals the following day. Is this true???

I would like to hear a response from the event organizers.  I know they were faced with some technical difficulties that were probably beyond their control.  Technical difficulties aside, it didn’t seem too well organized, but I’m trying not to pass judgement since this was my first tournament.  I was a little irked on Sunday when I showed up at 2:00pm to watch the AE finals at 3:00pm (which is what the advertised time was) only to find out that they had finished early.  Why post an event schedule if it’s not going to be followed?

Anyways, congrats to Broly Legs on a strong showing.  I went up against him in the first round.  Also, BIG thanks to Vicko and Duckie for their fantastic work on my fightstick.  They are very friendly guys and highly recommended.

    • http://twitter.com/Noelypoo Noel

Try e-mailing any top tier TO’s, streamers and stuff to get the word out on how horrible people were treated from tourney players straight down to the stream viewers.  It’s probably the only way to get the word out at this point.

If the EVO organizers have any respect at all they would not let this shit fly and bar TS/PZ and its higher up people from ever hosting a major.  Texas as a whole is a very respectable FGC and it was unfortunate that we had to be represented by this.

    • Rob Weston

Better than me showing up at 9 am after having pre-registered last Sunday to make sure I was there incase I got scheduled early, then finding out at 1PM that I didn’t play until 9PM (which became 10:30 PM) because they had somehow didn’t have me listed in any pools.

      • Anonymous

I had registered myself and my son two weeks prior.  Pretty much stood around until my son’s pool started, (scheduled for 1:30, started at ~4:00).  My first match wasn’t until well after 11:00.  Words cannot express how much I hate techno now.

How the fuck was this considered for evo points?

The points shoulda been yanked the moment the stipulation of paying for Con tickets being mandatory came about.

    • Anonymous

Me and my crew were wily enough to avoid paying for that stank convention.  We def didn’t wanna drop $60 to chill in a hallway.  And thats probably why it was easy to avoid paying the “venue fee”.  It was a damn hallway.

This post is to 100% clear houstons name from this disaster and move forward to bigger and better things happening in the future!

For starters Planet-Zero should have never been un-banned in the 1st place seeing how shady they still are from not paying jan the money they owe him a few months ago to trying to ban people for no reason. Ill expose some things they have been doing as of late and if you want to know more truth about them go to http://www.tinyurl.com/pzscam for the info. Now, They hold there weeklys and charge 10$ that automatically enters you into all games which is why there numbers of entrants are always inflated to make it seem like there doing good when there not. A random person can walk in and pay 10$ and is automatically entered in the tournament whether he wants to play or not just so it looks good on the results that they post in there threads? There are alot of venues and tios out here in houston that put on tournaments and never have any of these issues so do not blame the city of houston for this disaster blame Planet-Zero. As everyone should know nobody supports that place anymore but there own players which is very few thats why alot of our best players didnt attend showdown. Everyone in houston has moved onto dave and busters and monsters arcade or hosting stuff at peoples houses.

As far as Texas Showdown is concerned it is being ran by Planet-Zero so why wouldnt people expect it not to run well. I felt it was shady how they tried to pull a fast one on everyone already advancing there players to semi-finals making it to were no matter what happens, pz players will come out in top 32. To top things off you try to charge for a stream that is FREE at tournaments like Final Round, Seasons Beatings, CEO, and the list go on. Wow, When I did Cali Vs Texas and Reset/Neo came from cali I never once put toan or rudy in semi finals so why would anyone even try to attemp this? Now to the payouts.

Im also hearing the payouts for some of the games were incorrect. Please post entrants and payouts so all players know what there were “suppose” to be getting paid. The reason why i say this is because they didnt payout all the money out at last years showdown to some players and everyone was being nice about it and didnt want to say anything but I WILL!

I thank adnan for pointing out the pz seeding because had he didnt it would have been even more hell than whats happening now. Houston has already been BOYCOTTING anything that is Planet-Zero related and will continue to do so from here on out because all they do is hurt our scene and its reputation. I would like everyone to continue to put the blame on Planet-Zero and not houston or texas and hope that they get banished from posting any events/tournaments on all forums!
