Two very exciting pieces of news have been making the rounds in the last twelve hours or so, one that sees a brand new series expanding to a new platform and another on the resurgence of an old-school favorite. As there’s no way either one could be anyything less than completely reliable, we figured we’d pair them together.
Skullgals Coming to Neo Geo Pocket Color
First off, Reverge Labs announced late last night that a portable version of Skullgirls will soon grace SNK’s Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld system. Titled Skullgals, the game will feature the unique style of the original boiled down to a retrograded 16-bit form, and will also come packaged with built in online play courtesy of AT&T’s 3G network. The entire cast of Skullgirls will make an appearance on this new platform, as well as Squigly and Umbrella, two characters who have been revealed before but weren’t included in the initial roster. Squigly is a zombie opera singer who incorporates various stances into her fighting style, and Umbrella is the little sister of Parasoul, whose living umbrella gains more power the longer it’s ignored. The game is set to drop sometime in early 2013, so stay tuned for more info!
Ed Boon Announces Mortal Kombat vs. Killer Instinct
In a short Twitter blurb, Ed Boon revealed that they would be merging Mortal Kombat and recent acquisition Killer Instinct. Simply titled Mortal Kombat vs. Killer Instinct, the game will feature all your favorite characters from both universes into one brutal crossover. Details are scarce at the moment, but he teased a 2013 release. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
That’s all the news for now, but we’ll be updating this article with more completely legitimate news stories as they’re released.
