Sega Interviews Virtua Fighter Player Chibita on His Play Style and Tournament Experiences

Sega America recently held a short interview with one of the Virtua Fighter scene’s top players, Chibita. An experienced Lion player, Chibita was part of the team that won the Virtua Fighter 5 tournament at Tougeki in 2007 and also took home the gold for Virtua Fighter 4 at EVO 2003. The interview goes over his signature rushdown playstyle as well as his favorite tournament experiences.

Girly acting, too. Only in japan is that considered normal male behavior. At least the dude can play well.

            Blame Anime if you must.

Oh, and what’s “normal male behavior,” dear fighting game community?

Saying “I’d hit that” every time a female walks anywhere near a stream camera?

FGC can’t say sh** about what it is to be a “normal male”.

          • http://www.facebook.com/UNdesTROY Troy Dalton

Stream monster act retarded, sure, but do you really expect people who shit talk relentlessly and use games primarily as an outlet for violence to accept Metro McPrissypants up there? sure his behavior is common in japan, but then again so is poo porn. Not like we’re the odd ones out.

if sega is publicizing fs for western crowds, theres zero excuse for the vf community to not do everything they can to embrace newcomers. if theres even going to be a vf6, you can forget about a western port if fs doesnt catch on

Note Chibita also won Kakutou Shinseiki VI i.e. Japan National tournament AKA the BIG one just recently. He’s played since VF2 or so if I’m right.

I like VF but something abut the game just seems very clunky. Maybe it’s the hitstun, not enough impact for the blow’s. If there ever is a VF 6 it needs a major face lift. Then you might get western audiences more interested.

The only way to get the casual western gamers is by adding either extreme violence or a western game guest star. And making it easier to play.

I’ve heard vf5 is very technical and it looks that way.  It’s style is not for everyone, but I don’t want to see it change or try to copy something like MK or tekken.

I think Vf is very similar to Kof in that it keeps it’s own style and is aware of it’s fans and I support and respect that.

      • michael bradford

na its not really complicated at all
if you can handle tekken at all this game is cake then

ravid fanboys will try to tell you different but no just no.

        • Anonymous

I agree.  VF has this mystique that everyone maintains as being “too deep” or “too technical.”  It’s not.

It’s just like any other well made fighter; you get as much as you put into it.

It’s sad to see that VF is not held in the same place as SF, being the one who created 3D fighting games in first place. Most of the features that are a standard in 3D fighting games were born in VF. I for one prefer VF over Tekken, don’t get me wrong, I like Tekken, but these days it’s gameplay has become to simple-minded with comeback mechanics and masher-friendly combos. I hope VF finds it’s footing in the states, it deserves that much. At least for me is a day-one buy.
