Last January, we reported on a supposed new Neo Geo Portable.  Since then, news on the system has been scarce, which has led more than a few people (such as NCX) to conclude that the system was a hoax. The system, in fact, is real. SNK Playmore is teaming up with gaming accessory maker Blaze to produce the Neo Geo X portable system later this year.

Blaze’s  Jason Cooper has stated that:

“The NeoGeo console has always been a personal favourite of mine and I am delighted to be involved with the development of this new handheld console,”

“We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt 21 years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience.”

The Neo Geo X will sport a 3.5 inch LCD screen, A/V output, internal speakers and an SD Card slot. As previously reported, the system will come pre-loaded with 20 classic Neo Geo games (listed below).  While the exact release date and price are unknown (the previous rumoured MSRP of  £500 has been debunked by Blaze), Blaze has stated that they will be making an official announcement soon.
