Capcom Announces Street Fighter x Tekken DLC Pricing, Developers Working on Patching Infinites and Online Sound Issues

Seth Killian recently posted a short tweet mentioning some new information coming out of Capcom this morning. News about Street Fighter x Tekken should be posted on Capcom-Unity sometime this morning, regarding free downloadable content, upcoming patches, and more. Here’s the message in its entirety.

News re: SFxT w/ free DLC, patches, etc coming this morning from @Capcom_Unity. Buckle up!

This article will be updated as soon as more information is available, so stay tuned.

UPDATE: Capcom just announced what DLC would be free and the prices for those that aren’t. They also mention that the development team is hard at work patching out the infinites that have recently been discovered, as well as the online sound issues that have plagued the game since its release.

Hot on the heels of its March 6 release date, SFxT is about to kick off regular updates – meant to keep the experience fresh all through the year – with a blend of free and paid DLC. There’s a whole bunch o’ content coming, so let’s break it all down…

Up first on April 3 are Swap Costumes that take the “alternate costume” DLC idea one step further – instead of offering basic alts, these outfits cross the fashion line by dressing SF characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. See Raven dress as Guy, Cammy as King and uh, Kuma as R. Mika…(?)

Swap Costumes are available for $1.00 (80 Microsoft Points) each, or if you wanna dive in for the whole assortment you can pick up the Street Fighter or Tekken collection packs for $13.00 (1040 MSP) each – buying one pack saves $6.00, grabbing both saves $12.00. April 3 also brings three free color packs, each containing four new additions to the palette for added customization options. Topping off the April 3 additions are three new quick combos, making for a total of five pre-programmed attack patterns. While spamming these pre-set combos is tempting, don’t forget each use saps some of your Cross Gauge!

Shortly after those items arrive, look for a free tournament support title update that will add a new and faster way to select your gems from the versus screen via a dial system. We’ll actually run a live stream this Monday at 4pm PT to show off this update, so head to our Twitch TV page for details. The tournament update will also include improvements to the online sound issues discussed in Ayano-san’s earlier blog.

Looking just a few more weeks beyond the tournament support addition, the next big wave is a massive selection of free content delivered as a title update. This includes three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool. This sizable infusion of new gems exponentially increases the customization options for every player, so we should see some interesting new loadouts once this DLC arrives. To that point, we’re also tossing in three more gem slots per character in which you can save your preferred loadouts. Finally, this update comes complete with a free replay analyzer, which enables you to dissect each fighters’ vital statistics.

The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year – the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I’m happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

One additional note – the dev team is also already working on solutions to the infinite combos currently making the rounds on YouTube, and will have them patched up once these other updates are out the door.

I know this was a massive wall of text, so for further clarity, here’s everything we discussed above. This all begins on April 3 with Swap Costumes, color packs and quick combos, and then rolls out over the next several weeks:

FREE
Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems

Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each

PAID
Swap Costumes – $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs

DLC characters – $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

Why would you de-equip them?  Unless you are going to tournaments RIGHT NOW then it’s pointless.  If the system works and it’s fairly quick gems will be used.  Every tournament so far has been very specific with their reasoning behind not using gems as being a time thing and nothing to do with them banning them because of a dislike for the system.  The game is waaaaaay more interesting with gems so I hope the new tournament system works well.  At worst it will take a slight amount of time for each player to setup but it won’t be any worse than before SFxT where you couldn’t set controls up very fast…so at worst things should offset.

Of course I do believe assist gems should be banned.

      • Anonymous

I just have no use of them. Relax.

Also I will be attending CEO again this year and I rather just stick with the mentality that Jebailey is banning them there. Hey if its fixed and it works out good and the TOs start using it then whatever I’ll use them, for now like I said I have no use of them whatsoever.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-Manning/731717750 Chris Manning

Who the fuck cares if he’s going to a tournament right now? Practicing with gems when gems will be banned at them just gets you used to relying on things you won’t have available when the time comes.

        • Anonymous

Because gems will be enabled by default shortly at all tournaments and obviously players online are going to use them too.  If he’s not a tournament player this month then there is 0 reason to not play with gems outside of personal preference and wanting to be put at a disadvantage/lose out on part of the games design.  His original post made it sound like he was a competitor but his follow-up response shows that he’s not.

You sound like yet another person who believes gems are permanently banned when it’s been made quite clear they are not going to be.  The only reason why they aren’t used now is due to time constraints and not because the use of them if flawed.  Tournaments VERY SHORTLY will start using them.

Seems like you are greatly misinformed, everything point ot the direction of them being banned.

But hey, why do you care so much about him doing as he goddam please with its gems loadouts?

          • Anonymous

Everything points to them being banned?  Have you even watched the tournaments or been to one?  They go to great lengths to state that gems are only being disabled because of the time it takes to set them up for each player.

I also don’t care that much.  Re-read my original post and try to point out where it makes like I care much.  I asked a question because there is a lot of people who mistakenly believe that gems are banned for good and I wanted to know about his motivations.

I was on the same boat as you, with the whole “not buying more capcom products until something changes there,” but if this news is to be true, then I feel like they know they kind of messed up on this one. I think if the price for the characters had been any higher than 20$, that would have been a slap in the face to the consumer (well, more of a slap than having the characters on disk.) Alts were of course going to cost money, its a cosmetic item in a capcom game, that’s nothing new, and at least now we don’t have to buy them in packs for characters that we don’t want. Buying four costumes for the characters that I usually use will be much cheaper than buying 4 packs just to get everyone I want, you know? In the end, I think it could have been much much worse, and I do think that the diligence of the fanbase to let capcom know that this was not cool worked out.

      • Anonymous

I’ll agree that the $20 is reasonable for the new cast and I have no significant problem with them charging for alt costumes, especially in the individual set-up they’re rolling out.

It’s just, for me, it’s not enough to warrant my further business in light of the missteps, plus the fact that I simply do not like fighting game characters being paid DLC.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yahkim-Siffel/100001370016186 Yahkim Siffel

I don’t really like the idea of characters being paid dlc either. The only time I can really appreciate a dlc character is when it isn’t (or at least seems like it isn’t) just a sectioned off piece of the game, and it’s something they genuinely thought of or fans requested after the games release. Outside of that it’s a ripoff all around.

almost dead sure that TxSF will not have any DLC costumes, I never played Tekken 6 much but from what I saw every costume part (that you could mix and match) was bought using IN GAME currency

so much more hyped for TxSF can’t wait, but we all might have to till the next generation consoles :(

        • http://www.facebook.com/AL.x.and.her Alexander ‘Al King’ Clay

Tekken is my main, and it was because of Tekken which made me so angry at the whole alternate costume/DLC fiasco. Every character has alternates and can be fully customized. Tekken 6 had a lengthy beat em up campaign mode, all those customization parts, beautifully rendered 3D stages, FMV endings. It makes me wonder, what kinda of god-like disc-format does Namco uses??? Capcom claims they never have the time, resources, or disk-space.

oh and watch some TTT2 in your spare time, you may become interested in a new Tekken character in SFxT

*cough* Let’s not talk about the campaign mode >.<

But everything else you said, yes – these are all of Tekken's strengths.

Another issue i'd like to point out is Namco's new practice of letting a tekken game "cook" in the arcades for the better part of a year before releasing a rebalanced updated version on console. Tekken Tag 2 has been in arcades since late last year, but we're only getting a console release this holiday season.

THATS THE BEST SHIT EVER! Why should we get a buggy console version only to receive numerous patches and or title updates down the line. Thats what i miss the most about the Arcade. Fighters would receive most of there updates during its arcade tenure and the console port would be the most balanced version. That’s why we get the final versions like Bloodline Rebellion or Unlimited instead of buying an incomplete version only to have to buy an update of the game later.

Capcom could learn A LOT from Namco

            to Alexander Clay:

Jury’s out for me on whether this is a good or bad thing. Your reason is the good thing, my reason (being the bad thing) is that I WANT SOME TEKKEN like NOW. And I don’t want to play and be shamed in public while I’m still practicing. Could almost hear those guys laughing at my lack of Tag Assault Combos.

So yes, I would buy Tekken Tag 2, even with the knowledge that Unlimited may come out in the far flung future. At the very least, core game mechanics will still be retained (aside from the ability to choose one character only, if that floats your boat) – so you get some mileage from taking the time to practice.

What about gems are broken?  Pretty much everyone in the FGC agrees that they are fine.  Not allowing assist gems will hopefully be the only restriction.  None of the rest are broken at all.

Of course what I’m wondering is if a lot of the gems that are coming out for free won’t be all the gems that people didn’t get who went for the regular copy of SFxT and not the Special one.  TBH, even though it devalues my purchase, I hope it is a lot of those same gems.  I’d prefer everyone being on an even playing field.

      • Anonymous

I, personally, am not worried. I was simply covering the segment of players that are worried about Gems becoming the forefront of the metagame with being overpowered, which the news that we’re getting a batch of free DLC gems doesn’t address.

Why the heck should the DLC characters be free?

      Is Capcom employing slaves?

Before these 12 characters were announced, everyone thought the basic SFxT package was a good value, well worth $60.  (because it is)

After the 12 characters were announced, THAT VALUE HASN’T CHANGED.  The existence of 12 extra characters on disc does not decrease the value of the basic package that you all thought was worth $60.

This is what defies logic to me, and this is what Sven referred to as “emotion.”
From an objective, logical standpoint, the 12 DLC characters should be a non-issue.

COST VS BENEFIT FOR THE CONSUMER IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT WAS BEFORE THE 12 DLC CHARACTERS WERE DISCOVERED.

If you all thought that 43 characters were worth $60, why the heck should 55 characters be worth $60, too?

      • David Pike

It’s not extra content, is it? It’s withheld content. There’s a difference.

      • David Pike

It’s not extra content, is it? It’s withheld content. There’s a difference.

        • Chris Smith

So, with that logic, was the “Unicorn Fountain” and getting the Triforce “withheld content” in the original Ocarina of Time? Or anything else that exists on disc/cartridge that was left unfinished or cut? Are the beta artifacts of a game “withheld” because they exist on the physical media you purchased, but were unused for one reason or another?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/João-Grassini/100003044683998 João Grassini

there is no fuckin triforce on OoT,i know because i’m also on the speedrunning(which has wonderful game hackers studying games) community…they do have a ocarina pedestal in  beta jabujabu, though

          • Chris Smith

Actually, to clear things up, the model, and everything from beta, including the Unicorn Fountain exist on the cartridge for the game, but are inaccessible without the use of some modification of some kind. It’s great that you’re part of a community, but I fail to see how what you’ve just said has any relevance to the topic at hand.

      • Anonymous

Already agreed that $20 for them is reasonable in an earlier response to someone else. Also already stated my reasoning for the case of the DLC characters having been free in my initial post, but I’ll reiterate:

Firstly, making the DLC characters free (alternatively setting the DLC Gems to cost) would’ve been a massive mea culpa for the public relations storm that is currently surrounding what is otherwise a fine game, especially on the 360 version in light of not only the lack of local-co-op-to-online which was advertised officially all the way up to release day (when they HAD to have known the feature wasn’t in well before release), but the now documented analog stick issues.

Secondly, I don’t like paid DLC characters, but I’ve dealt with it since it seems to be the way of the industry. Characters are the heart of fighting games; if you ignore stuff like their art or personalities, they are the only bits of data in the game that we play with and interact with each other with. The stages can be stripped down to grey, featureless plains, sounds and music can be completely taken out, and we can be playing with featureless stick figures, but if they still have their move properties intact, we are still allowed to experiment and combo and fight against each other, as is what most desire. There simply is no game without the characters. This rolls into the the fact that fighting games are not equivalent to other genres in this respect:

-If there is a shooter, I can say “Yea, I think I’d like to buy more maps to play multiplayer on.”
-If there is an RPG, I can say “Yea, I think I’d like to buy a non-essential campaign to take these characters on and also get that shiny new character.”
-If it’s sports, I can say “Yea, I’d like to buy this vintage team or add-on mode.”

When it comes to fighters, selling characters is selling the gameplay because they’re all built unique and you’re meant to practice and get better and find your favorites. It’s the core of the game. It’s the same as selling the ability to fire guns  in shooters, the essential story parts of an RPG, the ability to score in a sports title.

And then let’s add-on that there’s no telling if you’re actually going to *like* the characters until you play them, especially as it pertains to Tekken-side since this is a new version of them. no matter how many streams you watch, or guides you read; the only way to guarantee you’d be happy with your purchase is to try them on a console that already has them. [Sidenote: Wouldn't be a bad idea for some sort of free trial for DLC characters, perhaps restricting them to Arcade Mode or Training Mode until a full purchase is made]

This has nothing to do with entitlement or overblown “emotion.” In the purest business sense, showing your customers that you’re legitimately trying to make up for mistakes is a great confidence booster that leads to better relations and, of course, sales. Do not misinterprate me as saying that all the free stuff they are giving out is not legitimate or worthwhile; I was legitimately surprised that the DLC Gems will be free. However, as it pertains to me since I cannot speak for everybody, it is not enough, for me, to restore enough faith in the way the company manages it’s development and components to be willing to buy their products.

Trust me, I’m more than willing to sympathize with development companies and the costs they incur and the trials they can undergo that can make stuff plain not come out as planned, and I have done so with Capcom especially as it pertains to Marvel 3. However, the company is in full control of how they choose to relate to their public, the people who will potentially give them the money they need to profit and make more products. I simply think that surprising most everybody by making the DLC characters free would pay off much more for their image, in the purest business sense.

        • http://www.facebook.com/AL.x.and.her Alexander ‘Al King’ Clay

I’m glad i read your post, before i posted. These are my sentiments exactly. This isn’t really downloadable content. The content is already there, but is being withheld. locked indefinitely until further notice. The only thing we’re paying for are permissions, keys. This isn’t the same as buying episodic DLC for Mass Effect 2, which i proudly done because that was newly produced content that was not included in the retail version of the game. Same goes for expansion packs for RPG’s like Skyrim. Gems are free and Characters are not…can you explain why? Both are on the disc. Is it because they don’t give a shit about gems anymore than we do?

I feel as if i have already paid for everything that will be “released” (from captivity) in the following weeks. The content is on the disc, i paid for the disc, i paid for the content already. There’s no sense in buying something twice. Regardless whether or not we knew it was on disc, on-disc content SHOULD NOT increase the monetary value of the game. This is why easter eggs and hidden characters became so popular. We were given the FAIR chance to unlock content and INCREASE the value of our game during gameplay, extending the overall replay value.

Capcom makes great fighters, but their business model is in the shitter. I just hope whatever happens with the company, that they don’t take other great fighting game developers down the drain with them. While most of you waited decade for another SF and another Marvel, there were some of us that continued to support Namco, Midway and SNK-Playmore. There are other fighters outside of Capcom, if you played them then you know that this whole “paying for alternates/colors/characters” thing is dead wrong.

          • Anonymous

You got the wrong idea about how it works.

You bought the the disc but you didn’t buy the data. In fact, nobody owns the data since it’s just bits. What you did buy though is the right the play their game which they still own through Copyright law. So while you can hack the disc and modify the data as you please, you cannot play the game if you do not buy the right to do so from Capcom.

Think of it as signing up for a movie download service. You got a few movies for joining but you don’t get to watch the premium ones even though they are also merely “withheld” and you are only paying for permission.

Saying that you should only be paying for content that is developed after the game has gone gold is like saying that you should only be paying for movies that are released after you signed up.

You may see it differently but I assure you that everyone in the industry sees it as the same thing.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mario-Klinge/73500873 Mario Klinge

You have a point but they are playing with fire.  This game is be marketed as an entirely new experience yet they are re-using old sf4 character models form 2008, Law is just Fei-Long’s character model with some animations added.  Much of the game is not new.

They should be elated people are willing to pay 60 dollars for it and now they want to sell 12 more characters with only one of the sf characters (Elena) being built from the ground up.

I understand what you are saying and that is the way of the industry but that can change at the drop of a hat with decreased demand.  The collective response of consumers to a product defines the industry.  A developer’s perspective means little if he/she can’t sell a product.

          • Anonymous

Okay and that’s why you’re disgusting and everything wrong with the world.

I buy the disc, it is now mine.  It belongs to me, and the contents of the disc belong to me.  This complacent copyright apologist bullshit is either coming from viral corporate run forum accounts or mongoloids with no self respect.

I completely agree. The only time I can see paying for character dlc is when it’s someone that was requested by the fans to be put in the game, or if it’s something that is GENUINELY thought of after the initial games creation that they want to put in.

This situation is exactly why I have not liked really liked any character dlc for any fighting game, because it’s usually something that they could have put in from the get, but chose not to. I actually saw the producer for Smackdown vs Raw (I forget which version it was) in a video announcing dlc right after he named all the wrestlers that would be  included in the game for free; sorry, but that’s bullshit.

Dlc could be used for good, but more often than not it is used as a way to milk our already well stretched wallets. I get Capcoms a business, and that they want to make money, but this does not make just plain taking advantage of people acceptable.

It actually pissed me off to have people telling me (or others ) to sympathize with a company that makes triple what most of us would see if we lived two lifetimes; Capcom has lawyers, and shit to come to their defense so don’t expect me too. It’s unfortunate, but people are going to sop this shit up like it’s free gravy, and they have a lifetime supply of biscuits. Then wonder why Capcom is doing the same shit come Darkstalkers 4 -_-

        Exactly.

And, if you just think of the $20.00 character bump as a sequel (see past decades where Capcom fighters gained 6 characters and it was actually called “II” or “III”) then you actually begin to realize this is a GOOD thing.

Nothing has changed, here, folks. Capcom has always released a fighting game with the next iteration in the wing. This is just a different way of doing it, and in this paradigm, we get more for our $ and we get it faster.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mario-Klinge/73500873 Mario Klinge

That’s a bad comparison.  They didn’t have the ability to patch or upgrade games so easily back then.  Now they aren’t even upgrading anything, technically the game already is.  Back when Turbo came out adding 4 new characters and changes the game mechanics was a big deal.  They weren’t selling new boards every time to add a couple of colors or characters.

And no this is not a good thing for the consumers.  If you buy all this locked DLC you are paying over 100 dollars, almost 100% more than the what the product is worth.  From the industry’s perspective it makes sense what they are doing because obviously most people will pay for it.

Whatever you call logic, it’s fatally flawed.

Because the costs and development of those characters, including Elena, has ALREADY been financed/covered by your box purchase. In a sense, you do own them, without your box purchase, they would NOT have been to cover the time and resources spent on those DLC characters.

Now, PROPER DLC are financed by your —DLC purchase—, the time and resources to create proper DLC are spent —AFTER— the game is released so they are/should not mixed with the box budget.

What is at stake here is that we let game companies continue with the whole Before Release/On-Disc DLC, is here what is going to happen:

        - The companies will have a way to control the amount of quality they can give you for the same price, which instead of always going up, can now be brought down by the company by locking out (making it a DLC) content that could have been available at release.

        - Impossibility for the customer to really know where the money of his box purchase went, did it serve for the content he got access to (aka getting his money’s worth), or did actually helped pay for contents he won’t have access to.

        - Companies will waste time working on content that are not critical to YOUR enjoyment of the game but can make more short-term profits for them. Why would the company prioritize this new multiplayer system when they can just work on costumes DLC. One make them more money —fast—, while the other would greatly increase the popularity/enjoyment of the game, but will only make more in the long term.

Day 1 DLC/On-Disc are bad, they essentially screw the customer in the long run. At first it seems like not a big deal for the moment, but be sure that the worst is coming soon.

But hey I bet you have mad bucks to spend on shit, I guess…

You’re so funny with your continuous defense for Capcom. So why is it that a game like Tekken 6 offers substantially more than this for 60 bucks then genius?

Must be such slave labor when they decided to put Fei-Long with a mustache and call him Law and port just about the entire cast of SFIV while they were at it.

What does Capcom need to do, besides sell a game where you start with one character and one mode and the rest is DLC to have you kids learn?

        >_> Boy the Capcom fanboys are dumb. Have fun while Capcom takes all your money.

So it’s Capcom’s fault that loads online players decide to choose Ken, Kazuya and Hwaorang in their teams despite the fact that there’s crap loads of characters to choose from anyway? Hwoarang doesn’t get played like that. Kazuya. Jin. Rolento. Hugo. Zangief. Ryu. Hehachi hell even Raven gets more play then Hwoarang and i’m a Hwoarang player. Suprisingly Ken hasn’t got picked more. Ether way its not like Hwowarangs cheap anyways

I’m guessing free colors and I would hope free quick combos… cause they are off their rocker if they think those would sell.

    • Anonymous

While we know the situation now, if we hypothetically go back and think on it…the DLC Quick Combos don’t cost much to develop, either, at least not nearly as much as having new attires and characters designed and implemented, meaning they don’t have as high a benchmark to reach to have their investment make returns, as long as some people buy them.

do what people did to ea with battlefeild, and file a lawsuit for false advertising. if enough people do it it will force capcom to fix the issue. i personally got it on ps3 but i was still pissed off for 360 owners, with capcom saying its impossible i call bullshit cz MK9 did it and its using the unreal engine.

      • Anonymous

You can’t sue for false advertising, because couch co-op was NEVER advertised.  It’s not on the game boxes, it’s not in the instruction manuals.

Pair Play exists on the 360.  It simply cannot be done with two players on the same console.

This doesn’t excuse Capcom from their behaviour, but you need to first take a good hard look at your accusations.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Adam-LaRusso/741804632 Adam LaRusso

from what I heard, some manuals actually DO have couch co-op listed (Limited edition only I think)
also, it was a feature that was advertised by capcom as a selling point before the game came out, and NOT as a PS exclusive

and why CAN’T couch co-op be done? other games have done it

I’m fine with paying for new characters.  Especially that many of them.  By the time the characters get released I will definitely want more and I’m more than happy to pay 20 bucks for a bunch of pretty good ones.

I wouldn’t be down with paying for gems though.  I like gems and the gems system but paying for them should never be something Capcom considers and I think they made the right move announcing that they would be free.

As much as it sounds like I might be riding Capcom’s dick a bit, $20 sounds a bit reasonable for the characters that are ALREADY ON THE DISC.

I know how you feel. 20$ is a bit reasonable when people were assuming things like 40$ or 4$ for each character. While this news didn’t explain all of the DLC on the disk, it did explain that they were going to try and updae the game with new modes and new patches an things like that, which does give me hope for the two players on one xbox, even if it is on super SFxT or something like that. All in all, this was good news for SFxT players, at least in my opinion.

The way I look at it, it’s reasonable when you consider that people have

I know how you feel. 20$ is a bit reasonable when people were assuming things like 40$ or 4$ for each character. While this news didn’t explain all of the DLC on the disk, it did explain that they were going to try and updae the game with new modes and new patches an things like that, which does give me hope for the two players on one xbox, even if it is on super SFxT or something like that. All in all, this was good news for SFxT players, at least in my opinion.

So are they going to keep Megaman and Pacman locked on Xbox even though we know they’re there?

LOL you are probably like 12, even anything an updated version would be released as DLC, like AE, or as a free title update like version 2012, I am going with the latter since they already plan to release a full character pack and it would not make much sense to release a balance update that you have to pay for. Capcom realizes that they are wasting their own money by making disk based updates that will not sell as nicely as dlc. The closest thing to what you are talking about would probably be a GOTY edition, either way I would not really mind considering I can afford to spend more than $60 a year.

          • HatredInfinite

Pretty sure Capcom already announced that all updates would be released digitally, no disc-based updates for SFxT.  So you’ll probably have to buy a standard copy of SFxT anyway, even if they do release an update.

Really?  That should be a higher priority if they want people to take the game seriously enough to drop money on DLC.

Arcade fight request matchmaking is also currently broken both in briefing room and arcade. It ignore’s area filter and only matches you up against people in your own area.

Last night I farmed a few people back to zero battle point’s because I kept getting matched against them over and over. I know what you will say, just use ranked search, but this isnt an option if you want to use briefing room with a training partner as a team.

  • Alex Nikodin

I really think $20.00 for 12 characters is too much. It should be $15.00 the most. Also regarding the 4 color packs. Is it going to be the colors along with their shades too like we saw in previous videos or just 12 colors? I’m thinking the latter and that’s pretty lame; there’s 56 colors isn’t there…? Charging for colors is a little too much…I thought it was and still do think it’s pretty cool we get to customize classic street fighter characters but come on now…

    • Anonymous

it says 4 color packs so im assuming there are probably 12 colors per pack?

    • http://twitter.com/Vurzie Vurzie

$20 is more than reasonable considering the pricing on characters on their other games, marvel 3 was $5 per character, AE was $15 for 4 characters. Compared to those games $20 does not seem so bad, even if the content is on disk.

    • HatredInfinite

It also says the colors are free.  And $20 for 12 characters is a steal.  That’s less than $1.75 per character.  Significantly less expensive than BB/KoF/MK, and a lot more characters.

      • Anonymous

Whenever something is marketed as a steal, it’s usually not. Marketing 101.

In other words, we should forgo all deals/sales/clearances and go for the flatout expensive shit. I mean, if it seems inexpensive, it’s probably expensive. So what does that mean about ACTUAL expensive shit?

“Whenever something is marketed as a steal, its usually not”

That’s something a company that sells expensive shit would say.

So selling these characters at approximately 1/3 of the cost of DLC characters in any other game is somehow a jack-move on Capcom’s part?  I fail to see the logic in the argument of ‘Good deal=bad deal’.

          • Anonymous

That’s because you’re only thinking with a consumer’s perspective. Think outside the frame. The cost to make the characters are less than the deal you think you are getting. Otherwise, Capcom would be losing money for every sale.

          • HatredInfinite

No one implied that Capcom is going to be losing money by taking this route, only that it is a great deal from the consumer’s perspective.  The only people who are arguing for Capcom to eat financial losses are the ones who think they deserve the content for free.

Who knows? This bundle of characters might be an update to the game just like Arcade Edition. And honestly, if you were only intending to use one guy out of that 12-character roster I don’t wanna know how much characters you’re using now.

In any case, this comes out later this year. I’m sure you can gather 20 bucks until then. And if you dislike it, tough luck bro.

An update to the game this earlier in its cycle pfft. Why pay 20 dollars for some extra characters when I can use that and get Skull Girls or Guilty Gear HD or even put it toward something that will most likely be of greater value there just characters and I’m not going to play with all of them so why.

Capcom should just recall all the discs, replace them with ones lacking all the additional content, and then horrendously jack up the prices on DLC to recoup their losses for this so everyone bitching about it being on the disc can download the much bigger files they seem to so desperately crave and shut the fuck up.  But they wouldn’t shut the fuck up, they’d just find something new to whine about because you can’t make a bitch quit bitching.

Agreed about the costume thing.  It’s cool that we can pick and choose them now, especially since alt-costumes are usually really hit and miss and buying them in a pack generally means getting a couple bad ones with a couple good ones.

Seriously, this isn’t a scam and it’s not a new business practice.  You have your hands on the money for your future projects relating to the one you’re currently working on?  And you finished the main project early?  Logic dictates that you would continue working on subsequent updates to that project.

And if your gripe is that the content is on-disc and you feel like you’re being ‘forced to pay to use something you already paid for’, then you better go cancel your cell phone bill because those monthly payments to get use out of a device you already paid for are making you look mighty hypocritical and ignorant right now.

$20 is like an hour and a half of work though? An hour and a half of work that you DON’T have to spend…unless that ‘Wow’ was a “Wow, that’s a good price for 12 characters” kind of ‘Wow’, then I apologise.

You’re right, it should have been $5/character with a ‘discount’ package of all 12 for $50.  The whining and feelings of entitlement on the internet never cease to amaze me.

20.00 for the new characters? That’s not going to sit well with a lot of people. Hell, I’m not even sure if it sits well with ME. Capcom could’ve earned a lot of it’s cred back at 10 dollars seeing as people have all but exposed that the 20 bucks is definitely going to be one of those “unlock key” deals. Hrm.

    • Moribund Cadaver

AE was $15 for four characters and some balance tweaks, and people called two of those characters clones.

Due to the emotional issues surrounding this one, ANY price, period, is going to leave a lot of people salty and upset. Doesn’t change the fact that 20 is still much cheaper than anyone has done DLC characters for so far.

People paid $15 for three EX characters in KoFXIII that were all on disc. Compared to that, this is a steal.

See this is where you guys seem to miss the mark. People CHOSE to pay $15 for three EX characters. If I just wanted to pay for one of the characters, I have a choice. I can’t speak for everyone but I personally don’t like playing with every character available.  Whats happening here is your going to be paying for characters that you don’t want just to play with characters you do.

And at least they gave you two new characters to unlock in the game.

        • Steven Gouthro

People will bitch about anything these days..
I’m pretty sure people could somehow strain there wallet to save up the enormous amount that is 20$ for 7 months from now.

But then again it doesn’t matter how much they charge, People are still gonna be salty as hell.

KOFXIII was a better value – more stages than the arcade version, revamped balance changes, it included soundtracks and other stuff as a Collector’s edition format for 10 dollars than the standard price.

    Hmm…

… less damage than it could have been at least. There’s already folks griping that Capcom
20 for 12 characters is too much, in spite of the fact that Capcom originally was pricing DLC characters at $5 each (and so has everybody else, so far – if not more).

You paid for what was advertised, If you bought the game knowing there was 38 characters aside from exclusives. Then you certainly got what you paid for. Whether the characters and costumes are on disc or not you still would’ve had to buy them.

Greedy? Maybe you have money falling out of your wallet and don’t mind giving it away, but some people like to get the most for their hard earned cash.
I have zero financial interest in Capcom and I could care less about their quarterly earnings. They have paid employees that look out for their financial interests. Consumers only have themselves. They don’t need our help figuring out ways to increase their profits. If anything, we need to help each other as consumers to squeeze the most that we can out of them.

        • HatredInfinite

Your plan to ‘squeeze as much as you can’ out of fighting game developers is going to get plans for future fighting games scrapped.  When the amount of return they get on development time/investment starts going significantly lower than what they’d see from other titles, they’re going to stop making fighters.  Paying for ADDITIONAL content, that cost ADDITIONAL money to make, is called supporting the company.  If you want the most out of your ‘hard-earned money’, go buy a sandwich and stop worrying about video games.

          • Anonymous

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that this is anything but a business to them. Your ‘support’ does nothing but line the pockets of their shareholders. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Instead, your emphasis as a consumer should be geared toward getting what you want for your money rather than supporting the imaginary good will of a faceless corporation.
Their ultimate decision to continue development on fighters will be based on profitability in relation to consumer demand. Consumer demand is based on quality of product. My ‘plans’ aren’t scrapping anything and your ‘support’ does nothing but deteriorate the quality of their product by lowering consumer standards.
Again, they don’t need your support. They need your money. So make them earn it by demanding a high quality product at a reasonable price. Consumers love high quality products and they show it by buying them. That’s how you fund future development and that’s how you REALLY support a company.

put that nut-holder in his place!!

          • HatredInfinite

I have yet to get a chance to play SFxT, but from what I hear it’s a really fun game, which means the ‘quality product’ part?  Check.  And you get it for $60, which is industry standard, so reasonable price?  Check.  Additional characters were made with funding above and beyond the amount given to produce the initial game, so regardless of their completion status at the street date of the game, demanding them for free is silly.  Companies don’t give money away.  You already get in excess of 40 characters for $60, which is better than what you’ll get from the vast majority of fighting games.  Your argument is entirely invalid because it’s based solely on your sense of entitlement.

          • Anonymous

It absolutely is entitlement and it’s not a dirty word, despite your attempt to paint it as such. This is a business transaction to them and you’d do right as a consumer to realize it. They don’t care about you or this community beyond their usefulness as marketing tools.
Quality of product is subjective to an extent and people have every right to demand and determine the level of quality that justifies a purchase, whether it be content, quantity or otherwise.
The content provider can decide for themselves what the appropriate and justifiable cost to content threshold is.
We don’t need Internet white knights making the corporate goal of separating consumers from their wallets any easier. Stop coddling Capcom’s sharehders, Let people demand what they can and let the product hand on its own.

          • HatredInfinite

Have it your way then; continue demanding things you’re never going to get.  Capcom, just like every other game company, is going to continue supplying additional content at, generally, respectable price points and the majority of serious consumers of their products will continue buying it while those of you demanding handouts are going to continue going unheard.

We don’t need internet white knights making random jackoffs think they’re ever going to get shit for free.

I’m going to bet if everything isn’t as chaotic as it is now, the extra gem slots, the color packs, the combo presets, and the extra gem packs wouldn’t be free. This looks mighty similar to the 3DS price drop fiasco that happened not too long ago.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AL.x.and.her Alexander ‘Al King’ Clay

That’s exactly what it is….why would on-disc content be locked if it was planned to be free in the first place? That’s because it wasn’t. If someone had not discovered the content, we would be paying for gems, colors, combos and characters would be around $5 a pop. This isn’t rocket science. It’s not the price that bothers me, but the principle.

Now it’s obvious why they didn’t just put a colour wheel type of system in-game.
So they could ridiculously say that they are giving us more colours “for free”.

The thing is too few people actually know things work and will actually believe this – when all they are doing is unlocking that option. It’s as if Soul Calibur made you pay to change hue. It’s no different.

Everything we are “getting for free” is either stuff that should have been in-game in the first place or that are just minor code tweaks. Totally ridiculous.

It’s a great marketing tactic.  Capcom gives stupid consumers something trivial “for free” so it doesn’t look like they’re charging for everything.

Do you think that will really change anything. Black looks cool and gothic, I agree though. Colors should have been out on release. How can they think that adding colors as DLC or on disc content make the game fresh?

Anyhow, $20 for 12 characters may be reasonable, but I just want the tekken side and Elena/Dudley……. that’s it.

      • Anonymous

It’s just PR spin to make their DLC strategy more palatable. And crappy spin, at that.

Also, that’s who I wanted too. Didn’t touch the other Capcom DLC characters in AE and I sure as hell don’t want to pay for them here.

REALLY don’t get why the hell they just have one $20 unlock code for all the characters that already on the disc. There’s no excuse. I honestly wouldn’t care about them already being on disc if not for that.

Boo!!  A “good” company that really cares about the customer would be extremely apologetic about the major sound bug and various glitches and perhaps do something to appease them (maybe release a couple characters, for free).  Instead, we have to wait for three weeks for something that is integral to the gaming experience (sound) and are expected to wait a couple months to pay $20 (!) for the privilege of accessing content that we already know is there (and have in our hands)!

The way Capcom works is so bizarre to me.  In the real world, in most instances, when I’ve had a bad experience with a product and have expressed my disappointment, the company is profusely apologetic and rectifies the situation as soon as possible.  Sometimes, they even throw in something extra, to keep my business, like a free pass or gift card.

But what am I thinking?  Capcom has always been an arrogant, monolithic business and it has worked for them.  Why would they change?

Are you 12?  If so, I’ll let you in on a little secret…

SFxT isn’t the first fighting game to have glitches.  You might not have been born yet, but SF2, the best selling SF game of all time and the game which popularized this genre, was filled with horrible game breaking glitches.

They listened to the feedback of players, and “patched out the glitches” in each new SF2 update.

That’s how video games work.  They have glitches when they are released.  The glitches get fixed.

In the 90′s no one complained about being “an unpaid play tester”, because people knew how difficult it is to make a completely glitch free game.

You can be assured that I’m older than you and probably most on this site.

I’ve been playing Capcom’s FG’s before you were even a deformed sperm in your dad’s right nut.

In the 90′s, my fighting games, including Capcom’s, had sound during the matches.  Granted there was no online and technology was more limited yet they still made overall better quality games than this rushed piece of code.

As much as you hate to admit it, you, like me and the rest of us on this site, paid $60 (I paid more b/c I got the SE like I do all of Capcom’s fighters) for a RUSHED and UNFINISHED game.

I’ll let you in on a bigger secret, Capcom released an unfinished product BECAUSE OF online patching being available and Capcom suits wanting to get the game out the door as soon as possible to get a jump on their ROI.

Actually, you were a beta tester even on those 90′s games. All the revisions (in sf2, alpha, the marvel series…), where iterations on a base engine. New technology means new bugs. the netcode is new so it’s expected to have issues. New characters too. The game is really good offline, just as that 90′s games we all love. Just wait ’till they patch the online part.

At least with those games secret content was unlocked by simply playing the game and entering weird codes but not paying for them.

I can’t help but thinking the combo presets should be paid DLC. You wanna trade skill for ease of play? Pay out of your pocket. Seems fair, considering the time others invest in the game, you should at least have to invest your cash to hang with the big boys (even if it does cost meter) If it sells well, it might help them fund other, free DLC content to please the hardcore fans… Just saying.
Characters being paid DLC, despite being on the disc? SRK front page full of bitching about that, because they only get 50 characters in their game, and have to pay for another 12. This is the same front page will suck Skullgirls’ clit when it releases with 8 characters for the same price as a 12-character DLC pack, despite being a low-rent (let’s face it), slowed-down Guilty Gear clone.
But what if DLC characters weren’t on the disc? You would have to download them every time a new character was released, whether you bought them or not, and those would be some HUGE downloads. Otherwise, you would be cut off from a quarter to half of the player base.
And you know, everybody would bitch about that too. “The characters are on my HARD DRIVE already! Why should I have to pay for it??” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a shitty solution, but nobody offers a better one, and Capcom has to make a profit somehow. Sorry man, but no profits = no new games, no new DLC, no nothing. That’s how it works.

    • http://twitter.com/Vurzie Vurzie

Who cares let them waste their meter to do combos a 6 year old could pull off.

Word.  It’s like people are still looking at this like DLC.  It’s not.  It’s you buying something and then having to pay a company to unlock a portion of it.  You will have paid $80+ for access to everything on the disc sitting in your console right now.  You alright with that?

You alright with that being the norm on future releases?

Your 12 character DLC cost 5 bucks more than my 3so. Somehow an $85 casual fighter seems reasonable to you all ….

  • http://twitter.com/SoridSneaku Andrew Cudnik

FYI there’s about 60 or more colors and a ridiculous amount of gems, as well as alternate costumes which aren’t given release dates.

Also, the fucked up thing is all these boost gems and assist gems make the others ones seem useless or are utterly broken, and you have a total of 5 gem slots, just detailing more reasons to ban them.

The only useful DLC to tournament goers is the character DLC, which we won’t be seeing until practically winter.

I think everyone who buys them will be too busy logging their 500 hours of gameplay for $20 to notice the tinkle. You’re kinda in the zone at that point.

Only thing I wish I would of done is followed my gut instinct on this game, waited, got the game around the time the 12 characters are released and have had payed only around $60 total at most
for the entire game. I just can’t seem to learn my lesson with this company. I’m going to try my best next time (Darkstalkers 4 I hope) to at least give the game a week before purchase.

If the gem packs weren’t free, there was no way Capcom will ever be able to shed the pay-to-win stigma they would have created for themselves.  If there were no backlash, these would not be free, like Mike Ross.

if you bought arcade edition on disc  and dropped 40 bucks (15 as dlc) for it when all you got was 4 characters and still had to buy costume packs. and you are complaining  about

FREENine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gemsReplay analyzerTournament support for gem selectionThree new quick combo pre-setsThree additional gem loadout slotsThree new color packs with four colors each
PAIDSwap Costumes – $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packsDLC characters – $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters
you are crazy, a troll, or just an all round negative person
if you choose not to get new costumes you are spending 20 bucks on 12 characters (instead of $15 or $40 for 4) and everything else is free, even if you did buy costumes there’s  50 characters on the game (xbox version) at one dollar a costume thats 50 bucks but you can buy them individually and if you have to have them all its 26 bucks for all 50 costumes. so do the math 26 + 20 =46
AE was 39.99 plus tax which in new orleans where I’m from would come up to 43.59 plus an extra 30 bucks for the super and ultra complete packs
thats 73.59 for everything ae had, if you bought the disc, or  45 dollars if you downloaded AE instead.
in closing that’s one dollar more than downloaded AE with all the fixings. but you are getting far more content for free, and 8 more characters than AE had.
if you wait for the vita version for the 12 character you will be about 6-8 months behind the rest of the world, not to mention they will come out on console shortly there after so you waited for nothing.
sure you can complain that this stuff was on disc but assuming it wasn’t this would be a heck of a deal. if you bought AE you shouldn’t even open your mouth. really.

    • Anonymous

For AE they actually added new characters.  This game they expect youto pay to unlock characters that are already on the disc you bought.  You don’t see the difference?

(not referring to the costumes/gems as they are nothing compared to actual characters)

        2. So what? I’m sure you also got owned a lot, too, seeing as you waited all the way until AE was on disc to get SSF4. Congrats on being “ahead of the curve”.

um yeah.  I don’t pay to unlock something. Sorry. Let me download a 2g file to make it feel like I’m getting something out of it at least. Same thing with direct download games. I need a physical copy to justify paying more than $20 on a game.

    • Moribund Cadaver

In other words, you desire paying for perception and a security blanket that has nothing to do with the value of the game or even the information you’re getting.

Their only real mistake in all this was trying to save mechanical difficulties later on by including data on the disc. If they’d forced everyone to download it, it would have manipulated people’s psychology in the way they desire to be manipulated.

Lie to me baby, lie oh so good.

      • Steven C

Don’t forget resale value on physical discs/carts. I just sold a bunch of games I never touched anymore to GS for almost $170. Old games too might I add. Oh and a PS3 system. Gave me enought for a PS vita and 16gb memory card. I checked the psp game downloads on the PSN just to see how much they wanted for DD games and saw Tekken 6 for $39.99. along with some other old games for almost retail even years after release.

when MVC2 and CVS2 came out, i didnt buy any DLC and i got a full game that i still enjoy up to this day….

why do i have to pay more than $60 for a game when i use to pay $40-50 and then content that is already on the disk? i think cRapcom is being unfair but hey its been going on since the arcade days….

SFII world warrior, champion edition, hyper fighting, super, super turbo, hyper anniversary edition

Man play street fighter sure cost alot…..but ill pay anything if/when they bring back the EX charaters….

Back then, they couldn’t do it (kinda, we still had super/turbo etc…), it wasn’t a choice, they didn’t change, it’s just that they couldn’t do it… Capcom wants some walk around money, if we keep buying, they keep selling.

MVC2 was 90% recycled sprites from 5 games, most of which weren’t useful characters and may as well not have been in the game.

CVS2 was the second full game, fixed all the problems of the first game and overhauled it, as per standard operating procedure.

Nothing’s changed. It’s all perception. The irony is that SFxT gets the “super” update for $20, regardless of whether or not the content was already worked on. Even if it turns out that there NEVER is a disc-only update to the game, and everyone who bought it day 1 can upgrade it through its life cycle for less than the price of buying new games… people will still at the end of bit say the “old days” were better and they weren’t “ripped off” like they are now.

Haven’t bought the game and don’t plan to. DLC characters are not optional for any respectable player. Maybe I’d have less of an issue with the “full game” being $80 if Capcom weren’t such scumbags lately, but they’re not getting a dime out of me on this title.

Unfinished game with console specific characters, infinites, a massive amount of bugs, 12 on disc finished characters, and on disc alt costumes for every character. No thanks.

All swap costumes: 26$ for 38 characters.  12 new characters: 20$.  So basically, the going rate is ~16 fully fledged new characters for the equivalent of 38 swap costumes.  I understand that they’re already made and all that, but we’re quite far off from Namco (and everyone else’s) 5$ a pop.

Incidentally, no mention of swap costumes for the new characters?

Only thing I’m glad to hear is the color packs are free, but seriously breaking them into packs with 4 colors per pack is dumb as hell they’re on the effin’ disk gives us all the colors at one time. Free gems no gives a flying fuck. $20 for characters already on disk and still have to wait until the fall when the Vita version comes out with the “new” characters stock, say thats maybe in the $50-60 range for Vita SFxT, but just because we console owers got the game on a major system instead we have to fork out extra cash and still have to wait… bullshit.

SFxT is the last Cashcom fighter I buy for a very long time.

You can never get it right the first time with a fighting game, way too many variables, every game end up flawed or unplayed to the point we don’t even know how it completely ticks.

true but in the matter of saying if the games incomplete the don’t release untils its done, the one thing Capcom has to understand that People can wait for a Game. I bet you as a person rather wait for a complete product, then spend more on something that should have been better. Correct me if i’m wrong, but we are all  humans and have the same values. I’d rather wait knowing i’m going to get some amazing in the end.

yeah, they have done it in the past, but the difference between then and now is that–then, you didn’t care how many times the game got updated because it only cost .50 to play.  you weren’t eating the cost of the updates, the arcade was.  and when arcade owners tried to start jacking up prices around 1995/1996 that started the decline of that industry.

however, now in order to play the game you have to pony up $60 to $40 dollars each time capcom decides to milk.  $60 to $40 dollars which gets you buggy online, and dlc.  And if they go the umvc3 route, you’re not even guaranteed that all of the people who were early adopters will keep buying the updates, so it’s a crapshoot whether or not you’ll even have a good amount of people to play against online.

capcom really messed up with umvc3, and it’s been weird decision after weird decision ever since then.  i don’t get it.

OK but that’s the past…Today that method doesn’t work, for example, compare MVC 3 sales figures to UMVC 3 and then compare SFIV, SSFIV, and SSFIVAE and you’ll clearly see that with each installment the figures goes down.

See, THAT’S the thing.  If it was one or two characters on disc and the game worked, then fine.  Soul Calibur IV and V did that, and no issues.  The problem here is that Capcom focused on the money-squeezing first and the game second.  It’s a buggy mess, and it’s obvious that Capcom put DLC schemes ahead of putting out a quality product.  That the fanboys continue to defend this makes me fucking SICK.

Also 1 thing I wanted to point out is even if I did want to use gems I still would not use them for the bare minimum of 1 month. They are meant to help improve on things that your having trouble with, want a quick fix for or are vital to your playstyle with your character, how would I know what any of these things are if I’m playing with all gems on from day 1? If I slap on 3 power gems right now and I get blown up in footsies and not blocking correctly and never land a hit to begin with what use are they to me? If I’m still having problems being blown up defensively after a month then I might say to myself, “Well damn you know what? Lemme get some of these meter building gems so that I can Alpha Counter my way out of situations, or maybe a speed gem to help my footsies and mobility.” This is an example of using gems correctly in my opinion, but then again thats just mine. Just food for thought.

I am glad that the $20 price tag pleases some people, but it still isn’t good enough imo. I don’t know how many times I have to say that this is NOT dlc ,it is an unlock by definition, and while paying $20 for 12 actual dlc characters would be cool, paying $20 for characters already on my disc is a no no for me.

Bottom line is that these characters could just be released free RIGHT now, today, at this very moment, but instead they want people to wait, and until Fall? No thank. So, don’t attack my post with bullshit comments about how ridiculous I’m being, because I don’t give shit what you think I am being; if you like the price, and the situation, cool, enjoy yourself this Fall, but I am going to state my opinion about how I feel like it or not.

Point is they haven’t really fixed the problem at all; you can’t put cheese on shit, and make it edible, because it’s still shit -_-

Pro tip: Your cable company sold you cable and a cable box with every channel on it. They lock the porn and hbo away. In fact, I only have 200 out of the 1,000+ channels my cable box has programed on it. I wonder why you people aren’t blowing up the cable company; demanding your locked away porn for free. You don’t complain because you didn’t pay for it, and you know it.

The cable box is just a medium to deliver the product you DID pay for. You don’t own every channel just because the data for every channel is inside the box. The dvd/bluray that SFxT resides on is a medium for the content you did pay for. You have not paid for 12 characters, costumes, gems, or even the color red. If you want such items, I suggest you order them once they’re available for a nominal fee, just like you would for Skinamax.

If you’re unhappy with your purchase of the just the colors black/white and 40 other characters, I recommend you stop living with buyer’s remorse and get rid of your content, sell it to somebody else.

The only thing Capcom really owes its customers is continued technical support and patching of things promised in the content (ie: Local co-op). It’s in the company image and PR interest to go above and beyond this by patching customer complaints (ie: Infinites, Sound Bugs, Glitches).

    • Anonymous

Additional cable have countless alternatives, a lot being superior, to them.
You pretty much play SFxT or you’re out of the loop in the mainstream.

Cable is a service. The game is not.

The cable company owns the box, the ability to use channels, optionally the phone and internet service, and the cable itself. Capcom doesn’t own the disc outside the content on it as a license, and certainly cannot restrict the use of it without proper and significant legal reasoning.

Why does everyone make HORRID analogies?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kyle-Silbaugh/132800808 Kyle Silbaugh

The point of the analogy is that your disc is a medium for the product/service to reach you.

SFXT is a 100% complete product, you paid for the advertised and expected content we currently have. It is fairly and competitively priced by means of raw content numbers and subjective time/$, for this generation.  In the first week, alone, I’ve already put more hours in to the game than I would a $60 single player experience. Like I said, it’s subjective, but I’m a busy person that works and has a life outside of games… if I’ve manged that many hours logged in a game I can imagine most fans of the game have likely matched that amount or more. In short, you’re getting your money’s worth.

Also, since this will be a one disc, no title update, release, I’m sure the play hours/$ will only make the purchase all the more worth its price.

If Capcom spent their extra resources and money to create 12 more characters in the time leading up to the vanilla release, good for them, I owe them extra money to use said characters. Just because they made them before release does not mean they need to be in the vanilla release for no extra compensation.

Capcom could have never put them on the disc, had them complete months ago, and still give us a download for $20 in the fall… there’d be less whining there. By industry standards, they could have cut the roster to only 27 characters (mk9) and give us just Kuma, Kazuya, Poison, and Hugo for $20 (mk9). Could have gone by their own standards and given us 25 characters(sfiv), then pay $40 more for 10 more on another disc(ssfiv).

I’m fine with my purchase. 38 characters (43 on PS3) and a fun game that I can pour free time into, for $60? I got no regrets with my purchase. Sure, I have gripes and rants about the game specifically, but zero regret on my purchase. I’d give Capcom my $20 now for the other characters. Even if they just copy pasted those same characters on a $40 disc, I’d buy that too. I’ve never felt like I weren’t getting my money’s worth on any of their games. When I do, they will no longer get my money.

When has the number of characters in a fighting game every changed the monetary value of the game??? If this was the case, games like KOFXI and Tekken 6 would be around $120. I would have rather bought a more complete SFxT released in the summer or something with everything they didn’t have time to finish included.

Enjoy your game as I am enjoying mine, don’t be a dickrider and turn your cheek to whats really going on here just because you like Ryu.

$20, eh?  Hm…while, I agree with another poster who said it would have been better at $15, this seems…….ok?…I guess.  The costumes I can do without anyway, as I don’t plan to purchase all of them, and we knew the infinites would be removed, so I wasn’t concerned.  As for the infinites…I knew those would probably be found and
eventually fixed.  I’m seriously starting to think that any fighter that
has juggle mechanics, will ultimately always have infinites (if
found).  I agree with others that those should be handled once damage scaling hits 0, the combo should end.  Free color palettes is nice, and I’m hoping that more new FREE colors will come as well.  As I’m unimpressed by the costumes anyway, I prefer to play with the colors.  I still think it would have been a better idea to do custom costumes like the Tekken series does, but anywhoo.

The important issue to me (besides the Megaman and Jin glitches) is the online sound issue.  Really throws my game off online, so I hope they get that right.

Its good to know were getting some free DLC which should calm some of the fires from the on disc DLC.  Im disppointed that the costumes (Which are all great for the most part imo) are a little over priced for people who like having all the content but i guess i can wait for a discount which always happens.

Now on to what pisses me off DID I JUST FUCKING READ THE 12 CHARACTERS WILL BE RELEASED AFTER THE VITA VERSION?  Lets keep it real CAPCOM this game is going to sell better on consoles than it is vita so why the hell our we getting fucked over by having to wait so long.  Not only that were also fucking paying more for the console versions and having to pay for content thats going to be free with the vita version.

Granted were getting access to the game first however that should mean we also should be getting access to the content a good while before the vita version is released.  Bad for you CAPCOM is by then even more people will have hacked the game and on top of that released programs online for other people to hack the game.

Lets keep it real am i saying that because partly i want the characters now?  Fuck yea but everything i also stated is true.  One dollar a costume seems like a good deal till those dollars add up and 20 dollars for 12 characters is a great deal however the characters are pretty much finished so yea.  Point is if the content is already done or pretty much done you might as well release the shit so we can have it already especially since most if not all of it is on disc.

The sooner the content is released the sooner the complaints stop and an even better reason to release the content now is im sure a good majority of casuals for example will have moved on which means there not going to buy any DLC.  Gotta get while the timing is good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yahkim-Siffel/100001370016186 Yahkim Siffel

They couldn’t even release those characters now if they wanted to, because Sony would/could probably sue their asses so bad we would have to stop calling them Cashcom, and start calling them Povertycom Lol

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NENYSPUQQ6WX4NP3GNGPE3YB7Y gene p

Your fucking kidding me right?  How do you know sony even made an exclusive deal with CAPCOM?  Nothings been confirmed for all we know CAPCOM could be doing it just to make extra sales off the same game but on another platform.  Less people are going to buy the Vita version if its just the same damn game that people have been playing months before its released.

Besides im sure CAPCOM wont become povertycom anytime soon because SF isnt the only franchise that makes that company money.  CAPCOM isnt some small business they have plenty of money so even if they did get sued it wouldnt be shit to them.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Yahkim-Siffel/100001370016186 Yahkim Siffel

Well, first off it’s true that they haven’t said there was any agreement, but they don’t really have to say it, because if there weren’t any agreement people would probably be buying the dlc characters already, as there would to withhold this content considering the stir this has caused, and the money they could have made already. Furthermore, exclusives don’t just HAPPEN there is always some kind of deal.

The other thing is that the vast majority of the sales will come from the console version of this game. Mainly because in order to play the Vita version of the game you will have to purchase a Vita, and the game which would roughly cost around $290-$340 (depending on which Vita you buy). Why do that when most people already own a 360 or PS3? Vita loses any way you put it, so the fact these 12 have been promised to Vita is the main reason there not for sale yet.

Lastly, Sony is a gargantuan electronics company, and their giant ass empire spans the likes of more then just games; in other words they have way more money which = better lawyers, more power, and influence. So while Capcom is definitely no slouch in there field, if Sony were to sue Capcom it would hurt like a bitch. So to answer your question, no, i’m not fucking kidding you.

          P.S Hold that shit

You could’ve preordered SCV at BestBuy and gotten Dampierre for free. You chose not to. Worst case scenario: if you buy the game used and like it enough to invest in Dampierre, Namco’s Project Soul gets $5, and your local retailer makes an easy $55.

Dude it doesn’t stop there because there is more alternate costumes — a character has a set of two the pack announced, however, only illustrates one set. Additionally, there are more gems, elite gems that renders all of the current gems useless, and more colors for edit mode and they all are not free. The game is going cost almost 200 bucks for the complete package but if you don’t care about the bells and whistles and only care for the characters then it is going to cost 80.00 plus tax.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Theo-Jackson/1563067829 Theo Jackson

Yo Capcom. How about next time you wait a couple months, complete the goddamn game, and release it as a whole product. We essentially paid 60 for a game that is arguably broken, inferior on 360, and has lots of content hidden on the disc. Now they’re asking us for another 65 bucks to fix the game, and still no 2v2 online for Xbox.

    Dah Fuck outta here Capcom.

    • Vincent Villagrana

Well…. simply put… the publishing big wigs would have it no other way..   this is the fate of current generation console gaming….   a game can afford to be released early due to internet connected consoles being the norm and games easily patched….

      • Yuko Asho

Sorry, but no.  That DOESN’T happen with most games.  Yeah, they get patched, but very few games are as broken online or have advertised features not present.

There are only two companies this sloppy – Bethesda and Capcom.  And Bethesda at least has an excuse.

  • Anonymous

What they should work on is fixing the online connection stability and sound, along with taking out so much neon where it’s not needed. More colors wouldn’t hurt and balance the fucking characters, every character should be able to hit crouching players even if it does a retarded low amount of damage.

Though if this content were not to have come out soon I would’ve traded it in and just not give a shit just like MvC3

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tim-Barnes/100000812612360 Tim Barnes

20 bucks for Bryan Fury? Gay….

  • Jose Di Paola

I finally figured something out. Capcom locked the extra colors on the disc, which seems strange at first when they are just going to release them for free.

Then I realized what the free colors are: A PR booster. By putting a big “LOOK WE’RE RELEASING FREE COLORS” sign up, Capcom looks a lot better after all the prerelease gems, pandora, etc. fiascos, even though what they really did was disc-lock the colors that were already done. So in effect, they actually REMOVED colors so that they could have a longer list of free DLC than paid DLC. Either that, or they think “replay value” is a better thing for their stocks than initial sales of the game.

I don’t mind it that much, since they’re just colors, but seriously, Capcom, don’t give people an inferior product just to look better when you announce the paid DLC. Look good when you release the game. Giving out all the colors at launch would have probably been one of those motivators to buy the game; “Look guys, I can have a purple skinned Bison with black and green clothing! So COOL!” You’re just missing a great opportunity to hook customers into buying your terrible game.

    • http://twitter.com/akumous akumous

I found my resolve, I don’t own the game not because of the immense controversy that follows with it but it is not my style of game. Ironically the game was marketed for the casual user base and they aired their mouth of how it was easy to get into with easy input options but Capcom failed to put in “a detailed tutorial” to cater to that market. Capcom is retarded. Capcom should hire me instead because common sense could tell you that if there is “finished” content locked on the discs would eventually find it.

LOL so yeah. i knew this was coming. even if i paid for the characters, capcom would only be getting 20 bucks from me for this game. and total i would have paid 45 for all of this. A good deal, i’m sure, but…

principles… etc… eh whatever. no ones listening anyway.

no buy. there are some REALLY great posts in here about why this is bull, and most of the authors speak a lot better than i. read them if you want. if not, whatever.

  • http://twitter.com/DetoSpiko Fil Filipovic

$60+ tax, 26 for swap costumes, probably 26 for the other costumes, 20 for characters. So total comes to about $136 (tax included). That’s an expensive game bra. Characters are done bra. I realize that sometimes games set aside money and resources to make DLC ahead of time bra, but Capcom could’ve at least made sure the original game was done first bra.
    Like:
    - fixed the Co-Op for that “other” system.
    - took sometime to work with the sound issues.
    - tested it for glitches and infinites. (No need to pay Beta testers, when idiots will pay to play the Beta version i guess.)

I don’t believe the excuses bra. Other games don’t have this sound problem, and thus far every pitifully crafted excuse has been a lie. So i’m assuming it wasn’t about the lag, it was about rushing the game so they can move onto the next train wreck. Chris Svensson…enough said bra

But then again i can see how the game went over budget. It’s not cheap paying off sites and Game reviewers to give them great scores. If only there was some way they could spend THAT money on the GAME to make it worthy of those great scores….bra

*using “bra” makes the dumber people feel like you’re talking directly to them, its a fact! ;)

I really like the costume swap idea.  That is VERY cool and i would pay 13 bucks for the entire set.  Because i feel it’s worth my money.  It’s a little cosmetic thing that’s cool.   Definitely worth the money for me.

About gems.  It’s been stated that capcom wants gems in tournaments.  It’s ment to be there,  As far as i understand it gems aren’t being allowed atm because it does take a long time to equip and un-equip them.  But i believe by the time EVO roles around Gems will be in full swing.

I’m still looking for the ‘El-Dorado’ Capcom saw on their horizon. Even if their money grabber is DLC/BS, there isn’t even an online pass. Needing an account just to ENABLE (sign in) access to the on disc content (characters) is a greater inconvenience than raising the MSRP and they would have done better with all charcters available (delayed) and the stupid pass thing.

*buys SFxT>returns SFxT>sells SFxT>rebuys later used and gets DLC for same price*
That’s what TONS of people will do. The game’s price is just gonna fall even faster in retail because of this. Especially when it lacks features on 360.

I know theyrea greedy company, but WTF was the MASTER PLAN?! Did they honestly beleive nobody would hack the disc?

$20 for 12 characters, fuck yeah!
Now the costume packs, I’ll wait for the discount.

This game is so obviously half-assed its rediculous. We are given the option to pay the full price of a new game in “DLC”. How greedy can Capcom be? Kinda makes you wonder if Capcom is doing this so it didnt have to split the $59.99 price tag with Namco/Bandai. The less people that buy into this DLC crap, the less likely it will ever happen again. Seriously, we had more colors in SSF II a few decades ago.I really wanted to like this game, as I am a huge SF fan, but Capcom wont let me. Capcom says that we gamers dont really understand the game market and how these things work, but a big majority of SF fans are between 21-35, college educated professionals, and I’m sure more than a few of us have post grad degrees in business, math, law, etc., so shame on Capcom for trying to insult our intelligence. Capcom is demonstrating nothing but Corporate Greed.Capcom sure didn’t say us gamers didn’t understand “the rationality of content funding” or that “consumers will always jump to the worst possible conclusion” when us gamers downloaded SSFII HD on Xbox live, supporting the product so hard that it gave Capcom, a company that at the time had NO motivation to make any more good fighting games enough amunition to make SFIV vanilla. Capcom will do well to remember that it is because of us loyal consumers who never gave up on their brand that they are even still in existance today. If we give Capcom another dollar, lets make sure to tell them they can have the whole dollar, but only 25 cents of it every 3 months.

$20 AND have to wait for the characters? I’ll pass. If they offered them now I’d pay $20 to play them now. If I have to wait until the fall they should be free. That is just common sense.

everybody is complaining cause the dlc is locked on the disc.so what. big deal its locked on the disc. be glsd that they are giving you any kind of dlc because they dont have to. look at games like mass effect and dragon age. dlc for those games are true dlc. they arent on disc. but that doesnt mean that the dlc wasnt already made. so be it the dlc is on disc and unlockled with a key or downloaded. its still the same.

in all honesty it should have went down like this there should have been 4 sku’s

now mind you im just trying to approach this from capcom’s view not necessarily my own.
    /casting flame shield

60.00 MSRP Street fighter x tekken regular edition. + 10 gem dlc and 2 free dlc characters.

70.00 MSRP SE Street fighter x Tekken + 15 gem dlc + 4 free dlc characters.

99.99 MSRP LE Street Fighter x Tekken  + 30 gem dlc + 6 free dlc characters + fightpad

149.99 MSRP UE Street Fighter x Tekken +60 gem dlc + all 12 dlc characters + fightstick.

i mean come on Lackivison get’s this formula right each time and most people hate their freaking games…

but hey im not their PR nor am i their Marketing Dept although im sure someone got chewed out when this thing launched.

So nobody would’ve been mad if the chars came as a separate download in the fall for $20, but since its on the disc for $20 its an issue??? Either way the $20 is spent, I see no difference except for hurt feelings. And lets not forget the timeless fact that nobody is twisting anyone’s arm to buy anything because DLC is always optional. Regardless of how much complaining people do they will buy it anyway, thus empowering Capcom to continue doing business as they see fit.

Imagine that you just bought a car, but the heating and air conditioning doesn’t work.  You can drive the car without it but that sucks, because well, there’s seasons and stuff.  You go back to the dealership, mad because there’s no air conditioning.  They say,

“Oh, there’s air an air conditioning system in the car now, but we won’t connect it unless you pay us about a third of what the car is worth.”

      THAT’S why people are upset.

If you buy the Vita version do you know if the 12 characters will become unlocked on the PS3 version via code? I heard that they will be cross-compatible so that would make some bit of sense.

If in the future DLC was actual “DLC” as such, GUESS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?
A variant of the same disc-locked problem would happen via updates to the game when releasing the new characters, costing more space on your hard drives with downloading a slew of new characters just so you can see those who have purchased it online, JUST FOR COMPATIBILITY REASONS!
Or, they can lock you off from playing from the majority of the people who do buy the characters in question. Trust me, neither system works!

Errr that analogy is not what capcom did, you just described a blatant rip off. If the game said “50 playable characters” and then when we all got home it only had the current 38, then THAT would be an example of what you just described (which you also be illegal). But the case clearly says “38 playable chars” which everyone knew they were buying. Now if your saying I brought the car KNOWING the a/c didn’t work and then went back and complained, then that is nobody’s fault but my own. But that’s not even what happened with this game.

I just realized since there is only one disc release, there won’t be a $40 “super” version of this game. You’ll have to buy the game at $60 (or $40 if they do mark it down) and pay $20 to get the 12 characters (which would basically be paying the full price of $60 in the end). Smart move Cashcom.

They should have made an in-game currency system in which we could buy colors, costumes, quick combos, gems, etc.

Also, a game with 43 characters is the same price as a game with 55 characters. The PS gamers get 12 characters free, basically. That’s completely unfair and in no way (in my opinion) justifiable. They even get exclusive characters.

It’s so simple! All you have to do is add a feature that allows you to pick the number of your gems at character selection! Another gem slot would also help the timeout problem.

Capcom is slowly dying. Their business models are killing them. The fanbase is what will carry them forward. Sure, the fanboys will stick to them come hell or highwater, but as soon as the group of people such as me back off from every product they produce, it’ll be too late for them.  They’ve officially thrown out every type of fighter mashup possible within these several years along with at least two updates for each, that’s the only thing that’s been keeping them alive.   The only other game they could throw out that would keep them alright for awhile would be a new darkstalkers,  CvS3, or something crazy.

Otherwise, this is the tune of their destruction   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqtpDV1wirI&list=UUEWfBjIGKanFHaUrxBrl3lw&index=1&feature=plcp
