In today’s early morning hours, a poster on NeoGaf by the name of cednym posted a rumor regarding an update to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. His source claimed to work for Gamestop, and happened to stumble upon an image in his store’s computer for a new version of the game, titled Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3X. I’m assuming the X stands for EXTREME.
Set to be released July 3rd as a DLC package for $14.99, and the later on as a full $39.99 retail disc July 24th, the expansion would bring eight new characters and possibly more gameplay tweaks to the MvC3 series. The rumor ran wild as people cited interviews with Niitsuma about his desired cast size and made lists of who they believed should be included. While another update so close to the previous one had a few people upset, the majority saw this as another exciting opportunity for their favorite characters to be included in the game.
As is usually the case, the news spread to other sites, including Shoryuken and Capcom-Unity. On the latter, Christian Svensson gave a short, one sentence answer to this new rumor:
Just got back from GDC so I’ll make this short: that is completely fake.
Ryota Niitsuma also chimed in on his personal Twitter, which translates:
The DLC costumes are out, and for now that is all.
UPDATE: Seth Killian also responded to the rumor:
Sorry guys, <3 photoshop, but no UMVC3x coming from Capcom.
Depending on your opinions of further updating, this is either good news or bad news. While I wasn’t looking forward to shelling out another twenty dollars, the possibility of new characters is always an exciting one. Let us know your feelings on the entire situation in the comment section below.
