More Street Fighter x Tekken Quick Combos Coming, Possibly as DLC

As you’ve probably found out by now, hackers have blown the Street Fighter x Tekken disc wide open, discovering an array of goodies from complete DLC characters already on the disc to new costumes and everything in-between. Their latest discovery is a little different. The quick combo system in Street Fighter x Tekken was built in to allow newer players an easy way to perform simple combos without dealing an extreme amount of damage, but more are coming down the pipeline that could change all that. Street Fighter blog Hadoken is reporting they’ve been sent information on more preset combos found on the disc that expanded past the normal two per character, complete with tiny little shopping carts that may hint at their inclusion as downloadable content. Ryu’s fifth quick combo in particular is said to be pretty damaging, though it eats up a full meter in the process. Whether these new quick combos go the way of the color packs, which are set to be released for free, or cost actual money is yet to be seen.

Are these meant for people who play video games? This is just like playing mass effect with in narrative mode.
If you want these combos why not just learn them instead of pay for them? If you do pay for these combos, are you even a better player? Because God knows if you aren’t willing to learn the tip of the iceberg then you don’t have footsies worth a damn.

It’s an easy way for new players to do damage and feel good, no biggy. No halfway decent player will waste their meter with them. I just wish they didn’t have the LP+HK and LK+HP inputs, I hate accidentally losing a meter for a shitty combo.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/3YEVY7UI3IZW3Z4UJATNF26UHE chester97

usually yes, but with all the crap that’s come from them the last little while, and the fact that they didn’t reveal some missing components themselves before the game launched, I’d say they haven’t earned the chance here.

      • Anonymous

Basically.  They’ve lost the trust of their fanbase with the DLC on-disc shit.

        • Anonymous

You mean the Gaming community outside capcom, the capcom fanboys are another story they will defend it no matter what cost, “it will reduce bandwitdh costs durr durr” “it will give them money for more better products” “it will help us because we don’t want data on our 350 GB discs” bla bla bla.

    • Anonymous

Whether I agree or disagree with your sentiment, Capcom should be operating with the knowledge that if it’s on the disc, people WILL find a way to uncover it. Whether they did take that into consideration in making the decision on whether to keep stuff on or off disc, is anyone’s guess.

Who knows, it could be coupled with other DLC stuff that’s paid for.

  • Anonymous

Why do people get angry at this stuff?  To people who can do combos on their own, this has less effect on gameplay than new color palettes do.

It isn’t like this stuff is taking precious time away from the networking or core-mechanics programmers  that need to be patching the online sound and Xbox coop issues.

Let Capcom make a few extra dollars selling fluff.  Maybe they’ll use the money to hire someone to help out their networking team.

    • Yuko Asho

Well, the worry is that the game will become pay-to-win online.  While it’s debatable whether that’s going to happen or not, and it won’t really effect pro-level players, this may do more to stifle progression among newer players than encourage it.

      • http://www.zunecards.net/index3.php wetworker

         Agreed!!!
Why spend hours perfecting combos when you can get access to them via dlc.

There is a certain amount satisfaction you get when you spend hours in the training room trying to pull off a combo or links, then it finally happens, you pull it off over and over again. When that happens it’s like you’re seeing the game from a complete different perspective.

This can’t be good for the community.

        • Anonymous

Because the dlc combos both cost a meter and come at a damage decrease? C’mon people, haven’t you played the game?

            I know all that.

The big question is. What would you think of a player that uses all those gems and would you keep playing them knowing that they are only close to your level just because of gems and not hours spent figuring stuff out?

Auto block - Auto combo - Auto tech

I’m more worried about what this will do to the overall quality of game play and skill. Take for instance SSF4 -AE 2012, When you go into a lobby and see people with under 2000PP, keep in mind your PP is above 3000PP.  Do you join or do you leave and look for a lobby with people that have above 3000PP?

          • Yuko Asho

Well, arcades that have adopted the “lan party” business model stand to do well, as are players who are capable of limiting themselves and not buying this shit.  At least this won’t effect tourney play.

    • Anonymous

Kudos for capcom for finding a great way to make money, bad for noobs who think this will make them better.
Not saying this is all a bad thing, but it definitely  reveals the state of the current generation of video gamers and thus the industry.

Seeing stuff like this doesn’t surprise me. The funny thing is that they’ll expect 360 owners to pay for all of it like we didn’t already get a massive shaft up our asses.

Thank goodness my SSF4 AE 2012 disc is still warm.

    • Louis Lam

If you don’t use them it’s not like it affects you and everybody who does use them uses has to use up meter for something you can do for free, so it’s just so the casuals can have a better time with this game.

Let’s be real:  It doesn’t matter how much we bitch and moan about Cashcom’s greedy DLC plans on these forums, since there’ll be hundreds of thousands of fools that pay for these combos, gems and alt costumes…. so Capcom could not care less about what the FGC has to say about them.

And yet more knee-jerk reactions from the oh-so delightful FGC.

Hey kids, had it ever occurred to you that these are simply preset combos? They’re combos. Combos. Preset combos. PRESET. P-R-E-S-E-T.

If you are whining about DLC revolving around WRITTEN combos, then there might be something wrong with you as a player, especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to throw around the word “scrub” and “noob” a lot. If you are a good gamer, why the hell is this even bothering you?

Seriously, is everyone whining about this so borderline obsessive about a completely optional thing?

    • http://twitter.com/Zerogrifter Tiki Man

My gripe with this is that I’m more agitated about the slippery slope of what is acceptable to charge for in game content. When I was playing through the tutorial and saw these options last night I thought these combos were going to be unlocked by beating single player or mission content – which I hope is still true.

One thing we don’t know is if these combos are purely aesthetic or do they do more damage/leave your opponent in a more vulernable state for added damage then the standard combos available to the non-paying player.

If it is aesthetic and just looks more bad ass – I’m cool with it and that is the reason why I’m not freaking out. I’m really hoping its purely aesthetic or available by playing single player.

If these combos are pay-for-dlc and game altering or give an advantage to the paying player (if they do in fact cost cash) then it is pay2win content in a gaming-genre that is supposed to be all about player-skill; which good sir – I do invoke shenanigans on this here product.

      • Anonymous

Except it’s not. The DLC content related to gameplay, those Assist Gems and these, they’re purely for assisting newcomers. They’re not one-button wins. I don’t even recall the last time anyone on here even supported the Assist Gems. If anyone’s been taking the “pay to win” stance, it’s the people whining about them in the first place, thinking they actually mean crap. We all know how to perform combos, manage meter and block…oh well…apparently not all of us since some are whining like it makes a difference.

Again, if you’re confident in your own skills as a player, if you think you’re that good and if by chance you actually take the time to actually get good at this game or any other, then something as arbitrary as preset combos shouldn’t even bother you. You don’t trust other gamers dishing out combo videos on a daily basis enough for this to not be an issue for you?

        • Anonymous

lol@ ‘only for newcomers’. If you don’t think pros would make use of NEVER HAVING TO RISK DROPPING THEIR HIGH DAMAGE BNB WITH NO DRAWBACKS EVER you’re retarded. But then again, you’re clearly retarded.

Well, if they cost meter that would be better used for other things, why bother?  And if they’re tourney-banned, which I can’t help but think they will be, that would put them at a DISadvantage.

So what you’re saying is: you wanna get bodied by flawless, lengthy combos everytime someone lands just one hit on you with one button presses. Pretty much saying “screw human error/comebacks/etc. or any semblance of competition, I want all my fights one-sided!”.

            Whatever, dude :P

lol@ ‘only for newcomers’. If you don’t think pros would make use of NEVER HAVING TO RISK DROPPING THEIR HIGH DAMAGE BNB WITH NO DRAWBACKS EVER you’re retarded. But then again, you’re clearly retarded.

I gotta agree with Blade.  I was cool with the massive amount of on-disc pay-to-unlock characters because there’s already a bunch of them in there, but this?  No.  Pay-to-combo ruins online environments, making them less about the players and more about the money.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Wood/100000171804478 Michael Wood

I haven’t bought the game yet or researched much about it but are the preset combos always on or is it an option you select like easy mode in vs games? If it’s always on I could see it being a turn off.

      • Anonymous

I presume they’re more like transcripts for ideal combos, but the way everyone’s been acting, people think they’re how they were handled on the 3DS where you simply tap the touch screen to do a really hard move (ex: Hayabusa’s Izuna Drop in DOA Dimensions)

    • Anonymous

Because learning one frame links is part of the game and it becomes much more ‘scrubby’ when you can hit one button and do it? Are you retarded?

      • Anonymous

You can’t link in this game? There are like, no hard links.

        • Anonymous

Yea except for the fact that there are just as many 1 frame links in as sf4 and many top players actually stated links actually got more difficult in this game. Oh whats that? talking out your ass? Yea thats what I thought.

          • Anonymous

Linking in this game to me feels like I could press it whenever and I can get it to come out.

I go by what I feel when I play the game, not what some other dude says.

Talking out my ass? No, talking by what I’ve experienced. Plus with plinking there are no one frame links sides jab/short. But that’s just semantics, I’ve better things to do than argue my point to a hate monger.

    • Musicedge

Yeah. It is a known issue. Capcom is coming up with a patch soon. Or at least what I have heard. I am more upset about that then this DLC stuff people are crying over.

      • Anonymous

Yeah I’m disappointed too. After playing a second day I found no match that didn’t lag the sound. I also noticed there is alot of input and visual lag too.My friens say the sound doesn’t matter. But I even have lag during Ex attacks.

i would rather pay for a DLC that would give the option to disable quick combo completely. i use short and jabs for plinking and it comes out way too often habitually.

Yeah.  It’s been a solid week of non-stop shit publicity for this game.  The sexual harassment scandal, a quarter of the roster hidden away until the fall, and now pay-to-win.

Jeff Gerstmann’s right, Capcom’s going to kill the fighting game genre JUST like they did in the 90s.

LOL Capcom how cheap and “aim for the spoiled little brat” can you be!?!?!? This is a whole different debate wether this affects “the comunity” or “the scene”, but toying with our brains and the need to see “the whole picture” is completely uncool. Thank you Capcom for lowering the bar each time. I really enjoyed “buying” the “new characters” in MVC2. It wasn’t that fun afterwards.

Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur is the only good fighting game. Anything with Capcom (Street Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken), SUCKS. Its the same shit every damn game, Same characters, same shit ass levels, same shit ass combos. Tekken was dead and buried and this will be a short lived revive. Before you say I am a hater know that Street Fighter IV is actually decent and I do play it, but Super Street Fighter IV and the 3DS version is the same shit, Oh you added two new characters, cool story bro. Also MVC3 is the same shit as MVC2 BOORING. You want a fun fighting game? Make a game like Smash Bros, but with PS3 and XBOX360 characters instead, now thats a game I would buy.

    • Yuko Asho

While I’m no fan of Capcom’s current MO, I gotta back you up.  Tekken 6 was fucking DOPE, and Tekken Tag 2 looks like it’s coming along well.

News flash folks, SSF4, SSF4AE, MvC3,and UMvC3 all had there DLC on the disc at launch which is locked and you pay for the unlock key. Ever wondered why Capcom fighting game DLC are only 100kb downloads, its because its on the disc. Agree about the slippery slope aspect, what satisfaction can there be had from slapping a button and bringing out a preset combo, skill-free!? Mebbe for kids 4 and under! It’d be akin to having half a screens worth of auto-lock on an FPS! There are better ways to make money Capcom, than dumbing everything down like this that I think is damaging games in the long-run.

It’s not just fighting games tho, other genres have been suffering like this for years too, like autosave points, back in the day, you had to at least master and complete an entire level before you could save it, now it’s shuffle along, save, die, rinse-repeat, it’s taken the  tension and skill completely away, for wiser gamers who can enjoy the challenge and resist using infinite continues and saves, fine, but the skills of newer gamers are never gonna be honed if their hand is held on everything.
