Ryu Appears as Special Guest DLC Challenger in Asura’s Wrath

Capcom recently sent this new photo to IGN. No, this isn’t a picture of the newest guest combatant in Street Fighter IV. It’s actually a picture of a special DLC battle in Asura’s Wrath, Capcom’s upcoming action game. Yes, Asura will be able to take out all of his rage on Ryu who appears to come complete with all his moves, a super bar, and even an ultra-meter. However, Asura will be forced to take on Ryu in his home-turf: a 2D fighting game.

The DLC will release February 21st in North America and February 23rd in Japan. Hopefully this also means we will see Asura making some appearances in fighting games in the future.

      Ryu has experience against psychics who harbor a cosmic force of destruction, dimensional conquerors, megalomaniacal saturation enthusiasts, wizards, guys with guns, mutants, knights, god dogs, robots, robot hunters, the queen of the robots, mind-controlled assassins, people who can break the 4th Wall, gamma-powered beasts, furry woodland creatures with guns, Norse gods, guys with superior tech, catgirls, succubi, dead girls, souped-up versions of the peeps he fights on a regular basis, the Mayor of Earth, and lawyers.

       You don’t know the power of the Dark Hadou, do you?  Though I’d think Demon Gods would be better mixed with Evil Ryu, but then with this you have the ability to call on and transform into Evil Ryu.

    So, it’s a SHMUP/fighter/action game?  Sounds fun if they can actually…well…make it fun.

     After playing Asura’s Wrath, it was pretty neat.  The boss guy was a bit cheap, but entertaining.  I was somewhat expecting Sephiroth from FF7 to appear and do Meteor.  Alas, nope, but the cliff hanger was crazy good.  Made me and a friend angry, so we have to get it, DLC or not.

    Um, I’ve heard a couple of things about this image.  Namely that it’s a mock-up, possibly done by BossLogic.  Second, although I haven’t tried it myself, apparently if you load the original image in Photoshop there are some serious feathering and color issues that suggest it’s a mockup.

    Besides, If it were real, wouldn’t it be more convincing looking?  Look at those poses and the fact that they’re not directly interacting with each other.  Also, the lighting on the characters and the background are all different, and there are no character shadows, yet Asura’s dust is completely opaque?  Screams fake to me.

      I can see where you’re coming from, but I can’t imagine they’d have any trouble making the Ryu sequence look exactly, if not very close to this screenshot/possible mock-up considering how varied the other events are in the game, plus that Capcom has a direct hand in its development.

    Everyone keeps thinking Asura is going to show up in SF4 somewhere, when Ono just the other day said the roster for SFxT isn’t finalized.  Then a few days later Ryu announced for Asura’s Wrath!  If he’s going anywhere it will be in SFxT imo.

    Asura’s Wrath is pretty much Quicktime Events galore, sadly…but I’ll admit that this looks pretty cool. And is that a new model for Ryu, or is it ripped from SF4? Maybe it’s just the texturing used in that screenshot, but he looks different there.
