Cross Assault Announces Seeding Points for Evolution 2012; Submissions Extended Until February 8th

Cross Assault is the first ever week-long, internet based fighting game reality show which will be airing LIVE starting this February 22nd. Under the leadership of legendary coaches Alex Valle and Aris Bakhtanians, five players will be chosen to represent Team Street Fighter, and five will be chosen to represent Team Tekken. Players will go head to head in a series of challenges competing for pride, fame and a chance at the grand prize of $25,000 dollars.

The deadline to submit your entry as a contestant on Cross Assault is rapidly approaching, and the team could not be more pleased with the amount and quality of entries thus far. We’ve been hard at work here trying to tie in the best in the fighting game community to ensure this will be a true milestone for fighting game fans across the world.

With the news that Street Fighter X Tekken is to be an official tournament game at Evo – the largest fighting game tournament in the world – Capcom and Evo are teaming up to offer Street Fighter X Tekken tournament seed points to the final four contestants of Cross Assault.

Tom Cannon, founder and organizer of the Evolution Championship Series had this to say:

“Cross Assault will be a great display of the drive and energy that fuels Evo and the whole fighting game scene. This is a great opportunity to see how top players approach a new game. I’m looking forward to seeing how the seeded Cross Assault players perform at Evo’s Street Fighter X Tekken tournament.”

The Evolution Championship Series (Evo for short) represents the largest and longest-running fighting game tournaments in the world. Evo events bring together the best of the best from around the world in a dazzling exhibition of skill and fun, as players and fans gather to honor the competitive spirit in an open format to determine a champion.

Since this announcement raises the bar for Cross Assault, Capcom has decided to extend the entry phase to become an contestant on the show until Wednesday, February 8th. If you haven’t created your video blog yet, do so now, as you don’t want to miss out on your chance to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

I’d love to submit an entry and start hyping it, but it seems like it’s near impossible with all the big names (JWong, Renic, etc) to get chosen.

Which is sad, because even if I weren’t chosen, I’d much prefer to see new players get chosen to train.

Seriously, just how much can Valle coach other pros like Justin and Renic?

    • Marden Blake

      You assume too much.

Perhaps so, and I hope I am!

I’ll still be submitting a quality entry, and that will be one of my main points to Capcom: pick some players with personality that no one is familiar with!

I’d love to see an EVO Top 8 with people we’ve never heard of!

One week of “coaching”, even from Valle, won’t put a bunch of nobodies into Top 8 at Evo.

It CAN feed the hunger, and lay the groundwork for players to enter into the competitive sphere, so for that, there is definitely value in putting completely unknown, lesser-skilled players on the show.

I wouldn’t be against this idea, as long as Capcom did something to highlight competitive play (like bringing on top players in the challenges, or as coach-for-a-day, or something like that).

That would probably be the best way to really go about doing the show, especially since it seems like the vibe among tournament players wasn’t too into SFxT anyway, until the idea of this show came out.  Might as well heap on the casual players, and see if they stick.

A very valid point, and I agree with you. One week of 12 hours a day is not going to get any Top 8 competitors from inexperienced players.

However, it could provide a good foundation to train upon for the rest of the season leading up to EVO. I almost see it as a relative amateur going into Cross Assault, being trained by Valle/Aris for a week, and then going on to a very successful showing in majors leading up to EVO and then an even more impressive showing when the big day comes.

It would be amazing to see how far someone could go in a matter of months with the right direction.

If ( when ) the show is a success with a ton of viewers, can there be a chance for a second season???

Because when it comes to personalities and entertainment, the Fighting Game Community is way ahead of other gaming communities.

        • Marden Blake

           Yes, there is a chance.

i agree with you, i wanted to see new players not the same ppl i’ve watched countless of times at the stream

      • Nicolas Degli

I’m not sure I can get as invested with random players. It’s like watching TUF versus watching a UFC card with Anderson Silva and GSP on it. For sure it’s interesting but the hype just isn’t the same.

Yesterday on the SFxT fightclub the rep from Capcom Unity said in stream chat that they  probably wouldn’t be picking pro players.

I expect to hear 4,000 people complain that the 10 people that get chosen for this event are given an unfair advantage for getting EVO points akin to the WNF massive complaining fest.

You guys can start getting angry now. Go ahead. Whenever you’re ready.

I think more people will be complaining that it won’t be top players and it’ll potentially be a bunch of random scrubs given free EVO points for beating other scrubs.

      • Nicolas Degli

        Seems more likely.

      • http://twitter.com/_ETR Christian Cain

I just don’t understand how 10 specially selected people have the opportunity for EVO points and it’s cool, but 100 people who compete in a tournament and are required to pay, and win consistently for 2 months is something to complain about.

For the record, I have no problem with cross assault or the idea of points at all. I just don’t get how opinions sway so much.
