Yoshinori Ono Says the Wii U Can Do Much More Than What Was Shown at E3

In a recent interview with 3DJuegos Yoshinori Ono said that he apparently has some inside info about the Wii U. This translation comes from NeoGAF.

What we saw last E3 is not a reflection of everything this console is able to offer. We have been trying the development kits and some of its new characteristics will improve its possibilities. It isn’t something like Kinect or similar accessories, it’s something different.

I can’t tell you more about it because, if I do, Nintendo will send assassins to finish me! (laughs) But let’s say that Wii U will be a console with so many and unique possibilities that it will be difficult to show them in the box they are going to sell it or to be published by magazines and other mediums.

Might this mean that we will see some of Ono’s visions for the future of fighting games get published to the Wii U?

Honestly like every other console Nintendo has mad even though the Wii was a disappointment IMO are the sturdiest things ever. If all the new games are released on this new console (which is what killed the Wii to be honest) and depending on how Netplay service/fees are I’ll probably jump ship back to Nintendo consoles for durability reasons, enough yellow lights and red rings.

The new Wii U is the todays PS3 and Xbox, so what gonna happen if the Rumors about new Xbox 720 or PS4 is true? then Nintendo is fucked…

    • Donovan Harris

I don’t know the rumors but really does it matter? This isn’t the Genesis/SNES era of gaming…how much BETTER do games have to look? I don’t even think we need new consoles. The consoles we have now just need to stop breaking.

i mean that Wii U maybe gonna fail like Wii, and Wii just a PS2 with motion controllers. And i have bad feeling that they gonna put on it Old 2007-2011 games like ” Super Street Fighter 4: Wii U edition” and only 3-4 new games like Mario, Zelda and Metroid.

        • dub bud

          Fail like the Wii?
The Wii is the best selling console out of the big three of this generation. It was also the cheapest to manufacture therefore making a profit for Nintendo from the get-go unlike the 360 and the PS3.
To coin a meme – the thing basically prints money for Nintendo.

The Xbox 720′s GPU is rumored to be six times more powerful than the PS3/360 and only 20 percent more powerful than the Wii U…Not anywhere close to the gap we saw between the first Wii and the other two consoles

      Link: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/01/24/xbox-720-will-be-six-times-as-powerful-as-current-gen

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/5E4CLRPBZOUEU5RJSVHB5YHOTQ fred d

Not to nerd out but the rumors don’t add up allow me to explain. Rumor #1 is the wii U gpu is based on the R770 which is most likely the HD 4870. I say this because of the cost versus performance with the rest of the R770 family and with decreased cost due to scalability. Rumor #2 the 720 is rumored to have a variant of the 6670, Now as an owner of this card I can tell you it’s not exactly that great it’s more of a mid tier gpu. Now when you compare the two on various levels the 4870 performs twice as much more efficiently. So if the so if the 720 is 6 times more powerful graphically (not counting cpu here) then 360 then the Wii U is 12 times more Powerful than Last gen. Also the Wii is slated to have 512mb of xdr2 ram a very fast high bandwidth low latency memory. but then again all of this is just speculation.

Nintendo’s main problem isn’t its console, or its games, or even their “Kiddy” image, it’s their relationship with third-party developers and their unwillingness to keep up with the bear minimum of what each console generation expects from a video game console.

The Wii’s tech was amazing, but it never ever reached its potential because they let everyone and their mom develop lazily-made mini-game collections onto it. That’s why the only fighting games that made it to the Wii were collections or ports of past games.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was the exception. <3 that game.

With all that said . . . can't wait for the Wii U to launch. Hope it gets more core games than the Wii did.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jacob-Diaz/100000301014975 Jacob Diaz

They’ve been trying to improve their relationship for the last five or so years. With the Wii, though, what hurt them was the weak technology so the Wii typically got inferior versions of a 360 or PS3 game.

They’re slowly, but surely, getting their act together on it. They didn’t release any first part titles for the 3DS so that the other games could flourish which is a good move for developers but a bad one for the fanboys who demand a mainline Mario game.

has anyone thought easy inputs might be the way forward, there are alternatives to joysticks such as joypads, hit box’s, now touch screens, possibly voice recognition, we have the starts of movement sensors in games, there are all kinds of possabilities, and with mechanics getting more in depth, complicated moves no matter how well erformed just might be to slow as we might have several other things to think about, such as direction within a 3d space, and all the variations and strengths in all directions, aswell as variations on the move itself, so easy inputs maybe an essenial part of the mechanics evolution into better gaming. What is more important the difficulty of moving a joystick or the thought process of creating a move sequence, and if joysticks may become obsolete it may not even be relevant.
Games are changing and so will the way we play them, and the difficulty Vs gameplay mechanics and reward may have to be rethought as the way we ca express our skill can be visualised in more in depth ways, difficulty of execution could be what is holding us back.

I’d hate to depend on any of those things personally. Part of the fun of playing fighting games for me is practicing harder execution combos setups etc… In an age where fighting games have gotten easier to control I’d like to think they don’t need to be voice controlled.

I’m not saying they will be cvoice controlled I’m just saying there are other methods and there are going to be more, as soon as one that works well and is more fun to use then that wlll b ethe way forward. I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be more base dupon what is more fun to use regardless of weather it is easier or harder to execute the moves.
Joypads and joysticks are pretty similar to use, but joysticks are much more fun. Hit box’s are similar but are a very different experience to use and although similar to joypads the hand position makes them worlds apart, the thing is hit box’s once mastered are much more accurate than joypads and joysticks but not as fun, so joysticks are still pros number one choice, I suppose thats why they are called hit box’s and not joy box’s.
The thing is, it’s all about fun even in tournaments, and that is the most important thing. So what if the moves are easier to input, you just said that you enjoy inputing tricky combos, and it;s the enjoy part that is important not the difficulty, if you used another method that was easier but for some reason just as enjoyable what would you use?
We can all do fireballs, but in a match it’s the timing of the fireballs that counts not how smoothly you executed the motion, and thats what will stay important. There are only so much you can do with a joystick and a few buttons befoe it becomes to complicated and moves run over eachother so we are limited in away, so other methods need to arise as games are becoming more complicated, but ease of input will matter when the options are vast. SO don’t worry about difficulty to reward, there will be plenty of skill needed just to remeber and master the mechanics.

I’d hate to depend on any of those things personally. Part of the fun of playing fighting games for me is practicing harder execution combos setups etc… In an age where fighting games have gotten easier to control I’d like to think they don’t need to be voice controlled.
