I hope they pick some people we haven’t seen much of before. Not that I don’t like the rogues gallery of FGC CyberAthletes, but I think they should use this as a new opportunity to promote people who don’t have sponsorships yet.

I hope it’s a legit tournament and not some bullshit like team “who can win without using there special or only using one character” some hella dumb shit that’s not tournament  practical.

I can see countless ways capcom could completely fuck this up.  On the different side of the coin this could have spectacular results.  It would even bring an audience that’s not at all familiar with the fighting game tournament scene and turn them into fighting game enthusiast.

The Ultimate Fighter reality tv show,  which really doubled the amount of MMA fans in one seasons span.  

It’s WCG ultimate gamer all over again.

It benefits Spooky, it benefits Final Round, it benefits the community by being able to see how the gameplay will develop before it’s even available (which is important considering how tenuous community support is right now).  Of course it benefits Capcom, too, they want people to play their games … but at least they’re doing it in a way that benefits the community as well.  Watch their “Cross the Line” series on youtube if you really want to see something mind-numbing, and it doesn’t benefit a soul.

The absolute worst thing that could happen is that we all walk away from this with the confirmed notion that SFxT is ass.  At which point we’ve saved $60 since it’ll have happened before release.

This is a marketing campaign, nothing more, and the worst part about it, is that they’re making a reality show out of it, because that is what is popular in the world at the moment. Sure this may be a sure way for them to get the boring already top players a chance at another large sum of money, but honestly i want to see some no name intermediate players try to go for gold, sorry Justin Wong your boring. Something that is properly shot, edited and overall produced well can be good. I Got Next is a great example of it. You can take that whole special re-edit it into a reality type of show. You can be down on if you want, but I think the best way we can support this is by maybe sending spooky suggestions or concerns of how we don’t want the scene to be represented. 

Spooky is accessible; isn’t this mythical being. He’s down for suggestions, at least it comes across that way..

Reality shows are trashy?? Thats if the only reality shows you watch are of the MTV, VH1 camp. You’re giving the genre of show an attribute such as trashy, when that’s not even fair. When the term trashy should be given to the trashy reality shows and not the genre itself. Also what do you know about this show but speculation? All we can be grateful for as of now is that it is being done and Capcom as a company is getting more involved with our community.

Reality shows are trashy?? Thats if the only reality shows you watch are of the MTV, VH1 camp. You’re giving the genre of show an attribute such as trashy, when that’s not even fair. When the term trashy should be given to the trashy reality shows and not the genre itself. Also what do you know about this show but speculation? All we can be grateful for as of now is that it is being done and Capcom as a company is getting more involved with our community.

Would much prefer Capcom redirected the resources this will take to something else the community could be involved with and would want (like say more testing in the west).

And while it is looking pretty sad, the reason this got green light because higher ups would rather spend money on pushing a product (than say adding conetcnt/refining). So yes, at least Capcom is involving the community.

I’d should also be intersting just to see how it performs. (Had Canada Cup’s 8.95 worked properly I’m sure investor’s would be BUZZING around the fgc)

Yeah man it would be good for the scene but it was not exactly a good idea to put this comment in the sfxtekken article comment section.

This game isn’t just for people who treat games as serious business and go to forums bitching about things they don’t have to buy. This sort of marketing is to expand the market and get more people into fighting games, not pander to people like you, who will not be happy with any change in the fighting game scene.

That funny, because everyone else who has played it has loved it. Sounds to me you’re hating on the gem system, which no-one in the gaming community has touched yet.

Are you kidding? Fighting games are bigger than ever. Back in the day we had street fighter and mortal kombat, that was it. Then there were the vs games. Then a MASSIVE TEN YEAR HIATUS. 

Now we’re getting streams that are getting broadcast worldwide. We’re getting podcasts, regular webisodes, people making actual money and sponsorship off this shit, and fighters are being shat out of the ass every few months.
