STOP POSTING THIS SHIT ON THE NEWS FEED. God Max makes terrible videos and is starting to feel himself too much for what he does, which is act badly and make uninformative videos.

I don’t know, I thought it was pretty funny.

You idiot don’t you understand. It’s not about the information in the video. It’s never about the raw info. It’s about how digestible he makes what little info he makes for the masses. Marketing 101… you’ve been attending Hater class too much.

      • Anonymous

People who give a crap about playing the game competitively can find this info elsewhere quite easily and without silly skits sprinkled throughout; on the other hand, these vids aren’t going to inspire casuals to suddenly take the game seriously, they might find the vids amusing and interesting but at the end of the day learning this stuff takes too much practice and effort for them.

That said, I do enjoy Max’s videos for the entertainment value if nothing else, and I look forward to each new episode.  But let’s not pretend that the info contained in them is actually useful to anyone.  Competitive players already know this stuff, and with casuals the real barrier to them playing fighting games competitively is not that info on the games isn’t “digestible” enough, but rather it’s the fact that you have to actually put time in practicing and developing your execution skills in order to get anywhere.

Speak for yourself, man. I’ve learned a lot from Max’s videos, and the humor he injects throughout his commentaries and tutorials helps keep the things he teaches entertaining. While he might not teach the super-technical aspects of the game, he does provide useful information about the game and raises some interesting theory points in his Online Warrior series. I’m not a pro my any means, I think calling me a moderately skilled player would probably be a huge compliment, but if it wasn’t for Maximillian I would be a total scrub and as it is I can at least TALK about the game even if I haven’t quite built the skill just yet to perform.

So yeah, speak for yourself. Different people learn different ways.

That’s just the thing, a casual ISN’T always going to take a game serious. It IS after all a GAME. But indeed they will still have an interest in the game in the info and humor provided.

Taking any game seriously will benefit you by maybe winning a local tourney, but that’s more about fun and personal goals than anything.

No matter how good you are, the likelyhood of making a game your career is VERY slim. It’s OK to play at a casua level.

Don’t think I’m picking on you, because the point you made is still valid. And I know, the logical thing to say after that is “casuals get salty when they lose to a skilled player and ruin the fun with their salty hatemail/rants” Truth is, that’s more about the person’s attitude than skill level.

TL;DR casual isn’t a dirty word. Casuals actually are the ones who cover the cost of game making.

Oh, I agree completely.  There’s nothing wrong with playing casually and I’m not saying that there is.  I’m saying that the info contained in Assist Me is not useful to casual players because:

            1. They lack the fundamentals and execution to incorporate this stuff into their gameplay even if they can understand what it all is.

            2. As you said, they aren’t focused on playing competitively or leveling up their game anyways.

          • http://twitter.com/unreallystic William J Neal

Meh, as a casual myself I simply disagree.  For me, I’m casual because I don’t have the time to be anything more than that, I’ve played enough fighters before that I can typically ‘execute’ or understand what he’s talking about, but I play in a vacuum – my teams are typically limited to a rotation of say 8 characters.  this means not only am I being exposed to some of the other characters and their dirty little secrets if I so choose to hop over, but I learn what that other characters goal is and can formulate an educated plan on how to beat it.

As well #2 is COMPLETELY wrong.  Casuals may not be super interested in tourny play, but virtually anyone who plays a fighting game AND is on SRK – wants to ‘level up’, they may not go as hard as others – last week was a record for me, I prolly spent a whole 4-5 hours with Dante in training mode trying to figure out BCs and practice the execution…I want ot get better, but I’m not trying to a tournament and get blasted *possibly on stream* going against someone who’s been able to log way more time than me and is more serious.

You know Max gets paid by Capcom to do these videos right?  Until you start getting paid by Capcom to make videos, your opinions means jack shit.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JOIOFP6BMEOWZURIZPD5BHZW2A Yeah right

I’m pretty sure he only got paid for one episode by Capcom.

      • Moribund Cadaver

Max was only paid for the one series that he clearly stated was commissioned by Capcom. The rest of his videos are done out of pocket by Max and his crew. They look good because they can afford good production values and they have some talented production members.

Honestly, did not think the first two parts were as good as prior Assist Me episodes, but this one made up for them. Felt like this one used Deadpool’s character much better. The Megaman petition gag (and the look on Deadpool’s face when he sees the binder) was priceless. Looking forward to the Wesker followup.

Very nice episodes. As a moderate player who spends 3 hrs a week in training mode, I find these videos entertaining and useful.

Good to see that Assist Me is still on, it has been an effort that required dedication and discipline, if any of the assist staff read this: Please keep it going, only throughout people like you the community becomes stronger.

The Megaman thing, while hilarious, kind of gives the impression that Max is indeed a puppet of Capcom’s. Still entertaining, though.

The conspiracy mind of the gamer, lol.

No, I think the Megaman thing just demonstrates what the average person probably thinks of constant whining for Megaman.

A pretty good end, good show all around.

I think Deadpool is the most authentically portrayed character they’ve done, serious props to the costume work and the actor. But, to be fair, Deadpool does kinda write himself.

Info wise, I found it a reasonably good series… pretty informative and pointed out a few subtle things that beginners with Deadpool probably wouldn’t think to try on their own.
