Gems you have to make the little gem icons and code the gem attributes in to the game and make sure they work.
For colours Capcom have to do nothing. In fact they have to do more work to NOT allow you all colours in the first place.

They have enough ways of making money other than having to suck the consumer dry by making them pay for literally nothing.

Changing colours is literally no work for them at all. The only reason they can get away with this is because of consumers lack of knowledge.

You just couldn’t resist that little sad barb, could you little boy?  My being a high class man isn’t an angle, I realize this is hard for a simpering little idiot like you to understand, but not everyone is a fat slob whose hobbies include becoming obese and trying to suppress his gag reflex for purposes better left unsaid.  Some of us like what we see with the game, some of us like the idea of the gem system and what it brings, and some of us are openminded enough to not assume a game will be bad because it doesn’t fit a narrow definition of what we feel a fighter must be. 

Then again, what can we expect from you really?  You give Skullgirls fans a bad name, I am sure quite a few fans of that game are generally openminded and refined gentleman who I would enjoy the company of; it’s just sad to see a community like that also get saddled with people like you who feel that because they found a game they feel will be what they are looking for, that it is ok to shit on other games that are mainstream and not designed the way YOU would like them to be.  You and MasterChibi are generally just annoying, especially when we’d like to read these articles and discuss them and one of you or someone likeminded feels the need to enter said discussions and make sure to namedrop another game and how they “aren’t looking forward to this awful game” or how “Capcom can’t make fighters anymore, going to Skullgirls!”  No, we don’t care what game you prefer or are going to.  You don’t want people bringing up other games in your little Skullgirls articles, don’t bring your game into ours.

 You say that this game has wildly glaring flaws I say are these wildly glaring flaws taking away from what was going to be fun about the game or is it adding to it.  I would think that creativity borders a little bit on the insane(and sometimes the unreasonable) because your coming up with ideas that may not work out or may just be the greatest ideas ever conceived. Whose to know what will be until you play the final product.

I like you felt the build before gems was good enough and didn’t need anything else for it to get my stamp of approval as a nearly finished product. Competitive is also fun yes there a ton of examples out there but they still share one truth that there fun and enjoyable to play.
