I could NOT disagree more. It looks like a half-thrown together mugen game. Not to be hard on the Mugen community, those fellas deserve a hand, especially the ones who DO take their time. This however, that is supposed to be a game one should PAY for…? No, i don’t think so. The animations are GOOD, but in certain moves, they sure are lacking, sound effects are way down the gutter, and I won’t even start to mention the voice acting which simply is the worst i’ve ever heard, and this is a fighting game, so.. that’s a feat. Congratulations on that.

Unlike dead or alive or soul calibur or whatever, the art style is so cartoony and caricatured, that I can’t imagine anyone being able to fap to it. I used to be like some of these guys here and say the game looks stupid and it sucks without even playing, i gotta say this game grew on me it has a lot of potential and it looks like a lot of thought and work went in to it. just cuz there’s no male characters in it does not mean it sucks automatically and it looks like they fixed the speed issue from the earlier build of the game

To be fair, anybody could be skeptical of Skullgirls when it was first promoted to the wider public. Fighting games are incredibly difficult to make, and its uncommon visual style also threw people for a loop. Plus, we rarely get to see games when they’re truly early in development. When things are still ugly, unpolished.

Besides, something to consider: the female cast, besides being predicated on the story of the game, is a more subtle in-joke than many folks realize. I seem to recall comments to the effect that the ultimate goal of the cast is to reverse the typical gender disparity in fighters. Usually, it’s something like 2/3rds male, 1/3rd female. If they get to add the male characters they have planned, SG will be 1/3rd male, 2/3rds female.

I do believe the sound effects could be improved (block vs hit sounds too similar) and some of the backgrounds/stages are sorta plain, but overall the game looks good (the character art is great) and the engine appears to be rock solid (just wish it was more KoF or 3s rather than MvC/GG/BB).

More than anything I want to support the fact that this game was made by gamers (e.g. Mike Z) for gamers. I wish more companies would allow the community to take part in the development process (not just tweaking balance or finding bugs). SG will get my money no matter what!
