A recent announcement by TwitchTV has confirmed their participation in promoting tomorrow’s LG Cup Street Fighter IV HD US qualifiers, as well as the coverage of qualifiers in Japan and Korea, all leading up to the finals in February. Every tournament will stream exclusively on Twitch, and they have even ponied up some cash for the top three competitors in each event. The official press release is below.
San Francisco, CA – January 13th, 2012 – Today, TwitchTV announces official participation and sponsorship in the ‘LG Cup STREET FIGHTER IV HD Global Championship’ regional qualifiers. All three qualifiers in North America, Japan, and Korea will be sponsored by and streamed LIVE on TwitchTV, leading up to the Grand Finals in February.
TwitchTV has a long history of supporting fighting game events, but none have had the scope and grandiose scale of the LG Cup STREET FIGHTER IV HD Global Championship. To kick off 2012, the Street Fighter IV® community will finally see the best players in the world duke it out in a tournament of global caliber. The introduction of Street Fighter IV HD on the LG Nitro HD only adds to the drama and intrigue of this awesome tournament.
Each qualifier will award the top three players big money prizes sponsored by TwitchTV, with the first place winner receiving a FREE trip to the Grand Finals in Korea. The prize distribution will be as follows for each qualifier:
