Thursday Afternoon-ish Skullgirls: More Top 8 Replays from SCR

Gametrailers just uploaded the next two top 8 rounds of the SoCal Regionals Skullgirls tournament. Our first match is Koyunlu vs CopperDabbit. Koyunlu used an incredibly frustrating keep-away strategy with a single Peacock, but CopperDabbit’s trio of Ms. Fortune, Cerebella, and Peacock were able to get in in the end.

Round 4 is Baloney O’s vs OFC Kingsley in an old fashioned 1 on 1 match. Kingsley shows off some good and patient Peacock play, but unfortunately keeps falling prey to Baloney’s Parasoul and her sniper shot trades.

Same here. I am starting to feel I have already played the game.

I’d rather these than nothing at all. If there were no new gameplay videos people would be all ” Oh Skullgirls is dead so it isn’t relevant anymore.”

You know how it is on SRK..

I think it’s fair to say Skullgirls hype is long in the tooth, for a game launching with only a few characters. But that seems to be the unfortunate consequence of a small dev team trying to make a game to the standards of quality reserved for AAA studios. It’s just going to take a very, very long time.

Personally, I would seriously advise the developer to not overexpose or hype the additional characters as they work on them, before release. If they get a good production flow going, they should be able to release characters at regular intervals I’d hope…

Speaking of new characters, I heard Reverge was supposed to reveal the 8th and final character this January.

Yeah. In point of fact, Valentine was originally a completed mid-boss who was made regular rather than unlockable boss character. Two of the original starting cast members got pushed back to DLC. Though they’re supposed to be out soon after launch.

Basically, counting the early day DLC, the game has 10 characters in its launch window.

If they’re already working on at least a couple of further DLC characters, I suspect they will get up to maybe 16 characters for sure. The game would have to bomb big time to prevent that. Given the depth of the game’s framework (custom assists!) 16 would be pretty good.

I like to think that they could pump out one character every three months. The amount of characters they’ve managed to show off and complete since Summer 2011 is pretty crazy and it is certainly more stressful than making four characters in a single year. People here say that there has been no news, but we’ve had a constant stream of near weekly updates in the form of major tournies, local tournies, gametrailers exclusive vids and Friday night fights. We also get awesome treats in the form of direct interaction with important folks on the team like Mike Z or Ravidrath.

I’m honestly getting a bit tired of the wait myself, but I can’t say that they haven’t kept us properly informed or hyped…

They gotta take as long as they gotta take. I’d rather they delayed the game again then release something that was not at its full potential.

I understand it, because I’m not going to buy the “Super Arcade Edition” or any thing like that, but I just want to read some refreshing news about the game, It’s been a long time since that.

Painwheel and Valentine gameplay has been revealed since then. I’d say they’re going at a fine pace.

I love the developers of this game so much. That intro was hilarious and caught me off guard so badly.
