UMvC3 – Fingercramp’s Babies Guide Part 2: Frame Data Featuring FC Jago

The second part of Fingercramp‘s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Babies Guide was posted to Machinima earlier today, and covers a ton of information about the game’s frame data. Jago runs through the general basics of frame data and also how it applies specifically to UMvC3. This video is a great starting point for beginners and also serves as a nice refresher course for those who are familiar with much of this knowledge already.

frame data makes competitive fighting seem mathy and boring

I wouldn’t recommend this to any casual player until they really start wanting to get really good…it’s hella dry material that feels like I’m studying more than playing…but man is it crucial to high-level play

Have to agree. I would recommend shit like this to a casual player that want’s to take it too the next level. The average gamer won’t want to know about this shit and will just give up before they start.

    Good stuff for beginners, but…

Wish he explained Blockstun and Hitstun more,
while these will hopefully be covered more for Combos in next vid,
these are important for understanding the Frame Traps answer
    (and general pressure games)

well he kind of answered my questions at to what constitutes a positive or a negative frame advantage, still kinda in the dark about it but i get  the gist of it

If your opponent recovers faster then you do post attack, then you’ve got negative frame advantage. Have enough negative frame advantage and your opponent will actually be able to hit you before you can recover. I.e. a punish.

Positive frame advantage means you recover faster then your opponent post attack. Moves with frame advantage allow you to pressure your opponent by making follow up attacks much more likely to hit first. Enough advantage and you will be able to land two moves consecutively without the opponent recovering. I.e. a combo.

True. Though just to be anal, I’d like to point out that it’s not really positive frame advantage and negative frame advantage. It’s just frame advantage and frame disadvantage.

Most random people that know frame data, usually suck at the game.  Less time learning frames, more time getting good in real combat.
