A new year, a new Evolution Tournament season! Tonight’s special live edition of Wakeup SRK is one you won’t want to miss, as Mr. Wizard is stopping by to drop some choice knowledge about EVO 2012 and the special events leading up to it. He plans to cover a variety of topics, including EVO 2012′s entire game line up, as well as this year’s season stops and prizing information.       When?  Your just making a blanketing statement.   MK will be at Evo and the benefit too Evo is that the MK community gets patches.  Also the MK community needs the competition Canada and Mexico gets very few majors (and just recently in Mexico a cancelled major). Evo is North Americas major. And MK is an American fighting game I’m surprised everyone is so quick to throw it under the bus. Its got a much deeper fighting engine than any predecessors’ MK by a long way. No come back factor and a deeply played cast. Any top 16 for MK will have a lot of the cast there.

        The only reason most people even played MK was for evo last year. The reason MK made so many GOTY awards was because of the story mode, not the gameplay. 

        I would be surprised to see KOF the community dosen’t seem that big in the US and when was the last time a KOF game was at evo?

        I would be pretty pissed if skullgirls didn’t make it because it hasn’t been released yet considering the game is freaking made FOR tournaments and is made BY community members. When MK was announced way before release and MK games had been total shit since like MK 3.

        I’m not against MK being at EVO, but I do think it’s kind of shady logic to assume that because it made GOTY on a few sites that it’s automatically going to be in EVO. For the record, I think it will be there, I just think the logic is flawed.

    When is the Persona fighter coming out?  I’d think that would be the new anime game.  Hope that and KOF get in as well as the shoe ins (the 3 capcom games)

        SFxTekken brings up the gem system, which will change how fighters are played.  What does Skullgirls bring, besides just being a copy of GG and other shit anime fighters?  Shame too, I like the artstyle and the music, but the game is lacking everywhere else.

    ^^^ I’m pretty sure that will be the lineup. Tekken won’t reappear until 2013 with TTT2 or TxSF. Blazblue…probably when the rumored third game in the series is released.

    Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (secondary event)

    Those are a given.

    I predict Street Fighter X Tekken will make it in, but close observation of other tournaments and rigorous testing of the gem system will be done by the EVO staff to ensure game balance.

    Mr Wizard said last year that he really wanted to put King of Fighters XIII on the main stage, but SNK Playmore wouldn’t talk with him, even if he signed a non-disclosure agreement.  Now that the game is out on consoles, I hope it will make it in.

    6 games is possible this year- some games are going to have fewer entrants

    I think AE will have fewer entrants then last year (though not by much)
    SFvsTK will do around BB numbers
    KOFXIII will do MK numbers

    Skullgirls shouldn’t be huge huge numbers , it could be done.

    IMO if they do UMvC3 and SSF4AE ver.2012 those need to be SINGLE elimination instead of double like last year. That way they don’t hog up the streams for the entire weekend and we can see more variety of games this time around. 

    Nothing against those titles in the least, but c’mon if you don’t know how to play those by now thing then you shouldn’t be at EVO in the first place.

      I honestly prefer double elimination; some of the best players I’ve seen came back from the loser’s bracket. It’s also pretty necessary for Marvel; while Street Fighter isn’t a very punishing game, Marvel is, and 2/3 really doesn’t give much room for error. If they changed Marvel to 3/5, then I think they’d more readily consider single elimination.

    This lineup seems VERY solid to me. MK proved with like 600 entrants last year and that was a good showing. Im betting int KOF13 but Skullgirls may have a chance too.
