Hakan’s Upgraded Technology in SSFIV: AE Ver. 2012

Daigo may think he has no shot at rising from the lowly tier depths, but Hakan is certainly surprising the rest of us in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition’s update to ver. 2012. Samurai Drew put together three short videos to showcase some of the new technology available to the Turkish oil wrestler, running through reset opportunities and cancels to give us a good idea of the upgrade he’s received. Will 2012 be the year of the oil?

Hakan’s problem has always and will always be matchups rather than general design. Anyone who can lock him down has basically won, because he has no opportunity to re-oil without being punished and even when he is oiled it’s tough to get out of good pressure. You needed to steamroll some matchups or lose on the first hit, and he doesn’t really have the moves necessary to start the match with the advantage like most divekickers do.

Starting the match oiled has helped a COLOSSAL amount though. I dunno if he’s viable yet but he’s certainly the closest he’s ever been by a long way.

For those who may not know, whats happening first is the Hakan is backdashing on wakeup baiting the OS ultra and then cancelling the dash with the coward crouch which is invincible.

Any combo that goes to 360K oil dive is uncrouchable, so if you were being hit, and holding down back you’ll still be grabbed by the oil dive. So are all the 360K setups done on wakeup.

I could be wrong, and feel free to correct me if I am, but i’m pretty sure DP’s and sweeps will beat it. At least that’s what I’ve gathered from going into training mode, and I *think* i’m doing it right. Not sure though. I did the same thing with Ryu and had the same results as the video, (To make sure I was doing it correctly) however when I did OS sweep with Ryu it connected. And when I picked my main, Sagat, DP and sweep also connected.

Again, I could be completely wrong on this, and feel free to let me know if I am. Regardless, always amazing to see some Hakan tech, he’s a very VERY underrated character, and I hope to see more people using him in the future.
