Mortal Kombat 9 Theme — “Fire and ICE” by Double J

For a moment please put aside your monocles and “look how smart I am for my oblique criticism” top hats and take a listen to this piece based on Mortal Kombat 9 by Double J.  In an era when rap music is pretty stagnant in terms of structure and integrity– he manages to brush that off and make a song that not only works as a hype anthem for Mortal Kombat, but as an enthusiastic composition filled to the brim with lyrical momentum. It’s no secret that not everybody is a fan of rap, and that’s understandable — but I’m sure that in most circumstances people do enjoy art. It’s a nice strong endcap to a year of stunning pieces of work by members of this community who just happen to have a talent in some other medium. It’s Holiday time! Burn those cynical eyepieces and head-wear I mentioned earlier and take a listen!

I think the lyrics are indeed nice, but the Reptile theme was too loud on it. The instrumentals shouldn’t have been that loud.

I just don’t think it meshed too well with the instrumentals, especially the chorus. Maybe the lyrics would of done better without the instrumentals all together. Just didn’t dig it, sorry.

as a fan of skrillex, i think it did the spirit of the song justice. synced well with the music, sounded good, very cohesive, and the lyrics felt like someone who actually plays fighters. that being said, an original beat could serve this type of work better in my opinion. dubstep doesnt always merit itself well to rap (volume of his voice and the music was an issue) and an original beat could have made it easier to hear (i listened twice to try to catch stuff i missed). id say about 7.5 out of 10.

Am I the only one that didn’t have a problem with the volume and heard everything clearly enough? I feel like I am.

No you aren’t man, very well made piece of music. These people are just too used to hearing radio music all the time where the main vocal is mixed up obnoxiously loud because its the only thing people pay attention too. When they hear a properly mixed piece of music, it confuses and intimidates them.

I wished they had used an original beat because as someone who knows the Skrillex tune well, all I hear is Skrillex with some rhymes over the top.

That’s because it is Skrillex with some rhymes over the top….

People who claim that the music they listen to is “good music” and the music others listen to is “garbage”, these people are imbeciles. Music is only based as good or bad on an individual basis.  What you might hear and think is “Good Music” is garbage to someone else.

So what did we learn today? Let everybody listen to they’re own types of music without bashing them for it.

(I.E- I listen to Rebecca Black and Dubstep; Problem?)

    SUP PEOPLE!

Thanks a lot REDRAPPER for putting this up and I appreciate everybody’s feedback. My aim was to try and maintain the same level of energy as the instrumental while keeping the content esoteric enough for those who appreciate fighting games (not just MK) to enjoy it, but also for anybody who might just be a fan of Skrillex, Dubstep or Rap to vibe to.

I did a Vega track a while back which you can check on my YTchannel and off course there are guys like Redrapper, Jose the Bronx Rican, D double E, Dan Bull,Turbo T. Double who have made fun and witty songs about games and I think its Dope! Rap is just the chosen tool of expression and no less credible than any other genre!Lastly, I am working on a few things so add me up on You-Tube and subscribe, PEACE!
