Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 PlayStation Vita Screenshots

Capcom released new screenshots of the PlayStation Vita version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The visuals are definitely impressive but you can easily see that it has been downgraded quite a bit. The character models don’t have nearly as much detail now and there are more jagged edges. The health bars in particular are noticeably more blurry than anything else. It probably won’t look that bad when actually viewing on the Vita screen though. I just hope the game runs at a full 60 frames per second.

Looks pretty nice. It’ll be interesting to see if it lags when you fill up the screen with lasers everywhere.

Vita was never claimed as having post-PS3 graphical capability. It was only said to be capable of running ported PS3 games without significant compromises. Which is more or less true – some downgrades in geometry and texture resolution notwithstanding.

The main thing I’m curious to see with this port though, is if the stages remain gimped and lifeless. For those who don’t recall, there’s a curious porting practice right now at Capcom; games running on MT Framework mobile (Super SFIV and now this port) have the background characters frozen in place with no animation. That’s understandible with SSFIV on the 3DS, being an unoptimized, rushed launch port.

But the Vita is way too powerful to justify shoddy porting like that. Also a bad move since the backgrounds in MVC3 have way more animation. Removing it all and leaving statue characters will look extremely cheap, like the bad old days of half-baked fighting game ports when game consoles were underpowered.

    That’s the first build that’s had any animation I am aware of. Some items in the background are still frozen though. I suppose we’ll see by the final revision.

Even Cap’s Shield is looking like a sprite.

  That would be awesome if they had a little clip stand to attach the vita to a stick. Reminds me of this controller I had for the PS1 where the controller had a lcd screen attached to the controller, was very good for Alpha 3

    I believe it may have been Ono that said that he wishes to see the Vita as a true portable competitive training experience, complete with stick and everything.

Honestly, this is the main reason I’m getting a Vita.

Sure, there are other good games, but there’s also ULTIMATE MAHVEL IN YO POCKET WITH UNLIMITED OPPONENTS ANYWHERE VIA 3G.
