King of Fighters XIII – Mr. Karate and NESTS Kyo DLC Footage

It looks like the DLC rumors were true after all. Shirakani uploaded a video proving that both Mr. Karate and NESTS Kyo are playable characters in King of Fighters XIII. They are most likely already on the disc just waiting to be unlocked, much like the MvC3 DLC. The footage is extremely brief but it does show their Neo Max techniques. Shirakani also provides a detailed description of both characters. Atlus will most likely announce Mr. Karate and NESTS Kyo as DLC sometime soon.

Totally new character vs Takuma

  1. gained f+A command attack, canned 3 hit leftrightleft punch that is comboable into and from.
  2. Ko’oh-ken is KOF2k2 Takuma style. Both A and C vers will combo. C ver does not guardcrush.
  3. C ver Ko’oh-ken has a ‘followup dash’ (doubletap forward) that lets you cancel the recovery with a short dash forward… corner combo fun here.
  4. C ver Kohou (dp+C) is brakable (A+B to brake).
  5. new move, Hakyoujin (qcb+P), which is a high or low Geese style counter.
  6. regained Shorankyaku (hcb+K) knee rush, with all properties from KOF98.
  7. Hienshippukyaku (hcf+K) is an AIR MOVE only.
  8. DM’s are HSKK, Ryukoranbu, and Marco’s big shiny uppercut from Garou MOTW.

Changes vs regular Kyo:

  1. ex Kototsuki is no longer a command grab, it’s a short rush and grab. He does not have the Hikigane (boo).
  2. df+D 1hit no longer cancellable
  3. close C, f+B combos, and is comboable from ala KOF2k1. This will be his main combo starter.
  4. ex Oniyaki does not rise into the air, and only hits 6 times vs 10 from regular Kyo
  5. ex firefist is the Dokugami (qcf+C) and the final dp+C hit has the properties of the ex Oniyaki
  6. lost Air Orochinagi
  7. Gained Mu Shiki, cB, cA, Mu Shiki works ala KOF97/98
  8. Neomax IS comboable from close C, f+B, regardless of how the startup looks.
  9. 75 Kai (qcf+K,K) is no longer automatic, both K’s must be manually input like in old KOF. Range of the move is far shorter than regular Kyo, and it comes out slower like in KOF2k. You can drivecancel it from qcf+C for jugglefuns.
  10. rdp+K is the R.E.D Kick as expected, overheads.

        Look at it this way, it’s kind of like going to a restaurant and them offering your a desert after words, seems normal enough, you’re being asked if you want it or not. Now imagine that you order the special of the day. You enjoy the chops, enjoy green beans, right before you stick your fork into mashed potatoes the waiter says “Umm so sir you have to pay an extra fee before you eat that side.” Tag on that every time you try to sneak a bit, she swats your hand away. Meanwhile it’s ALREADY on your plate.You’d walk out, right?

        You’re right there is nothing wrong with it, just like there is nothing wrong essentially with alcoholism since the drinks are NOT illegal but at some point youh ave to draw the line and say “Ok, enough!” This isn’t about being nickel & dimed to death but I do take issue with them putting things on my plate then telling me I’m not allowed to eat it.

          No its more like you going to a restaurant and they bring you your food, and then they have an extra side that’s available with your food. The side isn’t cooked all the way, and that’s why its not available.

          So you eat your meal, then later they tell you “oh its finished now, you can order/eat it for a small fee extra”.

          Completely different, they didn’t flaunt this in your face. You may own PART of the content, but its only to save you time in the long run. Its not finished, when its finished you will get it. If you think you deserve it or own it that badly then by all means, crack open your disc and try playing with it.

            Is that how you gonna defend this nonsense? If it’s on the disc, it’s on your plate. I’m good with it being DLC, they can charge $10 per character if they want, but don’t put it on the disc then say it’s DLC, It’s just LOCKED Content. It’s on the plate.. No amount of spinning can change that. I get what your saying, that’s shit that Subway does and even then it’s still a choice that I’m cool with it. But don’t put it on my plate then tell me I can’t have it. Don’t put it on my plate, why is it so hard to understand.. I bought the Sp.Ed of MvC3 for PS3 but not XBOX and when I found out Jill and Shuma was already on the disc I did NOT buy them for the XBOX. Had I known before I picked up my PS3 Spe.Ed I wouldn’t have bought it and stuck with regular to no support that nonsense. No costume that was already on ANY SFIV version I purchase but after market shit I did.

            Just because something is on the disc doesnt mean you own it. Do you own the netcode library on the disc? Do you own the licensed music that a game might have? Do you have rights to any unfinished content that they ended up using in an expansion?
            Its not that simple.

      If you can afford a $50 game then I’m pretty sure $5 bucks for a character ain’t no thang. Anyways no one is forcing you to buy the character, it’s up to you if you wanna spend those $5.

    Of course they’re on-disc. That’s how it works. If they weren’t on-disc then they’d have to do a full game update to give everyone the data for the characters anyway so that you could fight them online even if you don’t own them. Putting them on-disc saves them time and money because they don’t have to submit a patch to Microsoft, which requires way too much time and costs them money to do.

    I really do not understand why the gaming community does not recognize this.

    I’m really excited for this game and I like these DLC characters, but I’m not too crazy about paying for DLC characters that use the same sprite.

    I think its pointless to have it there.  Unless the character is incomplete what is the point of time releasing these characters?!  Why not just let everything be a day one release? I’m just happy to get back 96 kyo or nest kyo if that is what they call him.

      They don’t release them all on day 1 because they want to continue building hype and keep interest. Most companies do this so people who may have stopped playing have a reason to come back to the game. In any mp oriented FPS for example, the first map pack is likely on the disc and could be released day 1, but they wait a couple of weeks so they can build hype and keep attention. Then the other map packs that come out later are basically used near the release of the competitors game to divert attention back to their game.

    People who whine about on-disc DLC don’t understand the concept of it. Just because some of the assets are available on disc doesn’t mean you should have access to them immediately. You’re basically saying “I know that I didn’t know this crap was on my disc, but I feel like I deserve to have it because they stored it on there so that way it wouldn’t need a much larger download later.”

    If it wasn’t for some guy tearing apart every file looking for secrets, none of you would know the difference, so pray tell why all of a sudden do you cry like children about something you didn’t know the existence of? Because they’re doing you a convenience by including the unfinished content on the disc to make it easier to download later? Maybe it was intended to be launch content but due to launch date restrictions they had to change to DLC? If you activated that content right now, at this second, it wouldn’t work because its NOT FINISHED.

    My God I’ve never seen a community so full of whiners in my life. You whine when games get patches, you whine when they get DLC, is there anything you can be happy with?

I just want to play the game and I want the characters from a fan stand point. From a realest standpoint Downloadable Content is just that content that you download its just a fact. I don’t make a big deal of it. You can pretty much tell if it’s additional content by the size that you download.

      I can understand where folks are coming from on this one its pretty much been this way  with every fighting game that has come out this year but it doesn’t really matter how the content is being delivered I just wish they would quit with the wait for it nonsense.     I think the issue is whether or not the on disc DLC is completed.  If it is completed, then the customer shouldn’t have to pay for an unlockable.  I’m tired of the “new generation of self entitled…” argument too.  If it’s on the disc then the price of the game is understood to cover the development costs before the game went gold and was pressed.  If the the content was worked on post going gold, then it’s true DLC and the extra price is warranted because extra time is being used outside of what’s allotted in the original budget.

    I’ll keep playing these games because I like them, but some of this stuff going on in the industry seems to be setting itself up for failure in the long run.  Not just (complete) on disc DLC, but built in Game Genie-like DLC, and this insistence of having to check in to a remote server before you can play an (offline) game.

    This game is dead to me since they are using the same netcode that made the last one 100% awful online.  They lost my purchase when that announcement was made.  In today’s fighting game market you can’t ignore online and it drives me crazy that a company would put so much time and effort into the game and then do nothing which allows people to play it online.

      All of the KOF games on Neo Geo Station have networking developed by the same company they SNK has been using for years, and it’s playable. I was playing 95 the other day and it was perfect, only a tiny bit of lag during intros and win poses.

          Well I have a nearby local competitive scene, it wouldn’t matter to me if the netcode was good or not, I’m still buying it.

          I should also remind you that people still bought and played MvC3 despite it’s terrible online experience, why should it be any different for KOFXIII?

          Also you can’t rule out the possibilities that there may be patches to fix any problems, as with what happened with BlazBlue and Tekken.

          Mind pointing us these reviews? I have not seen one review saying it was bad. Then you mention UMvC3? Yes it is better than vanilla but still worse than sf4. Hell some people are saying its still the same bad online as vanilla. 

          My point is everyone needs to try it out for themselves to really judge because the online may be good for me, but may not for you and vice versa. No one will have the same experience.

      It’s not pessimism.  It’s not like I have it out for the game.  I planned on buying it until I found out from people I trust that the netcode isn’t very good.  I hope I’m wrong.  But, I’m not going to give them my money before I find out though.  Especially with a game that probably won’t have another online player within 2 states of me consistently.

        I think going off of any one’s opinion but your own is totally foolish. I haven’t played BB so I have no idea exactly why the netcode is getting the kudos that it gets. All I know is that if you have a good connection like Cable with at least 12Mbits a game like SF4 will be at least 80% of the time a good online experience.

        All I know is this is the best KOF they’ve come out with in a long time and if enough people support it and truly enjoy the game then we can possibly get more support then we’ve had for the netcode in the past.

        I’m going to keep stating the facts KOF XII was not a complete game KOF XIII is a complete game so I believe as it receives good feedback they’ll continue the support in making sure more people purchase the game. I’ve heard that local play is great and I’m sure certain regions will give good connections.

        I’m pretty confident that people will have good things to say about the online play once a good number of people get there hands on it. This game is worth at least having there is to much content here to ignore because the netcode is bad in my opinion.

          The limit of how much you can download has no bearing on how good your connection is to another person in an online game.  Before stating “facts” of online play please at least try to understand one of the basics of network gaming.

          I hope it does turn out OK but I’m not going to blindly hand out money to a company that so far hasn’t really proven that they care about one facet of the game I care about.  Some of you may not care either way but it doesn’t change the fact that myself and others will.

            I beg to differ I’ve personally experienced the difference of having a 6Mbit vs. a 12Mbit connection on the 12Mbit connection with SF4 I was getting 4 bars on a regular basis where with SSF4 I’ve basically only been able to get 3 bars so I know it can make a difference.  

            All I’m saying is its better to find out for yourself then rely on what other people have to say. I mean I heard people complaining about SF3:Online netcode and that uses GGPO yet I still see people playing it so obviously you have to get your own opinion.

            As long as the connection you are using is not saturated and you have a big enough pip to play the game (which requires VERY little) then size of the pipe does not matter.  It’s networking 101.

            Ping/hops is what matters and also if your opponent is playing on a good line that isn’t saturated and they aren’t downloading 109830948 things on bitorrent.

            If you were sold a 6mb line and then sold a 12mb line and the person told you you’d get better ping times you got ripped off pal.

            Nobody told me or sold me anything I observed the differences and that is MY personal experience. I’ve done a decent bit of net configuration more so LAN than WAN but I know how to create a good connection.

            I’m not new to any of this. I know the things you need to do in order to get a good connection and that is exactly why I keep saying that you need to get your own opinion and stop trying to be such a smart ass. You pretty much ignored everything I stated to come back with a smart aleck remark.

            I guess common sense isn’t common after all.

    The only DLC character I do care about is Billy Kane. Alt Takuma, Alt Kyo, and Alt Iori aren’t doing it for me. :(

      Billy Kane isn’t DLC, IIRC.  He and Saiki are console-exclusive and… uh… what’s the word I want to use here… “unlocked?” day one.

    The game is $50 +/- sales tax. If you have $50 bucks to spend on a game, then I don’t think $5 is going to bankrupt you. We’re all adults here… right? :/

    DLC characters seem pretty cool.  Not “OMG run out and get them now!” good (that would be along the lines of Vanessa, Blue Mary, Yamazaki, Shermie, etc.), but certainly worth it at some point for me.

    I wonder if they might add more characters later on down the line, without pressing a whole new disc (ala AE).

    I’m just waiting and hoping SNKP got something else coming out not saying I wouldn’t mind seeing more KOF I just want to see some new new. Even though its now just hitting consoles, this game has been in existence since early last year.

      In an interview they said that they’re definitely not shutting down like they were hinting out post KoF 12. They also mentioned the possibility of a NGBC 2 or Garou 2

        I think an NGBC 2 would interest more people since it has that tag team element. I’d love to see them do a SamSho or combine SamSho and LB that would be nice!!.
