Vanilla wasn’t that great, they really stepped it up in Continuum shift with the gameplay mechanics.

I loved vanilla. The biggest problem to me where the updates… they where done horribly as someone who main Tao i already had a hard time playing Jin and Ragna. The updates only made it worse. Then more and more in short amounts of time that do ether very little, or way too much (to a certain character) keeping up was too much.

I still think that the series is amazing and I will probly pick this one up as well as the Persona game that arc system is working on. Its always good to support fighters.

No, you’re pretty much completely wrong.
Whether or not people stopped playing after CT has little do with quality.

CT:
-Instant block is too strong
-3 top tier characters, 3 pretty much crap characters
-Rolls are silly
-Jumping overall too strong
-Characters less developed
-Guard libra is a stupid system
-Burst system was terrible in CT

CS2/CSE:
-instant block is nerfed
-Rolls are fine
-Jumping nerfed by the large increase in the amount of air unblockables and other restrictoins
-Most characters like Litchi, Tager, Bang have more developed movesets(moves that were shit are more useful, basically) than previous versions(though argueably CS1 carl was the most enjoyable incarnation of him, and haku players miss his high meter gain from CT but he got other improvements like 4c, better 5c, better command dash, etc)
-Balance is much better. CS2 has one blatantly overpowered character and tager is still significantly below everyone else. in CSE, nobody seems dominant, and tager seems to be doing pretty well(but this always takes time to pan out)
-Combos are a lot less autopilot than in CT/CS1, where you could convert almost any hit into high damage with like 2 bnbs for most of the cast. Reward is generally more defined in CS2/CSE and you have to know more shit.
-Throw option select nerfed(easier to counter with purple throws)
-Fatal counters are awesome
-Guard primers system is much less stupid than guard libra system
-Burst system is much better than in CT, bursts are a more interesting resource due to not applying danger mode, being a per-match resource, etc
-You can use gold bursts mid combo to increase proration, adding on to the ability to use bursts as an offensive tool
-Astral heats are more useable

So, yeah, I doubt you have any real reason for claiming CT was better. That’s bullshit.

haha, yeah, i dunno why they keep making the announcer worse. i legitimately liked CT’s announcer. you pretty much filter the announcer out after a few matches, though.

He might still be “bottom,” but he has a lot easier of a time than before. He has a lot more comboability which seems to help him in two ways:
1)The comboability means “little” hits that aren’t 360/anti-air are more rewarding, so he has a better ability to keep players honest without resorting to 360/atomic mixups that sort of 50-50 himself. Things like 5b are rewarding.
2)The comboability doesnt seem to help his “top” damage that much, but all the extra hits increase his meter gain a ton, which I guess makes sledge and stuff more useful.
He still seems to have a lot of trouble with hazama(and maybe mu and valk, i dunno) but for 2/3 of the cast he seems to do quite fine. But, I’m not a tager main, so….

What I’m liking about EXTEND is the fact that all of the characters seem completely viable, instead of CS2 being a Noel and Makoto Fest, CS1 being Litchi Hokuto No Ken combo, and CT just being CT. Granted, CT/CS1/CS2 are still fun to mess around with, but I for one welcome our new CSE overlords. I’m personally very excited about EXTEND and can’t wait to see what other balance issues are corrected.
