          Momochi play Cody against lower competition. He use cody in other tournaments too. In Japan, in those top tier tournaments like Godsgraden or SBO, Cody is not going to cut.
          If he has to play Tokido is the final. He would probably switch.

    Was near going to bed early when I realized Grand Finals for MVC was going to be Phoenix vs Phoenix but SO glad I didn’t. Long story short there were a LOT of “Oh Snap!” (like PR ROG catching another magic Level Three Tron Grab on Dark Phoenix (EVO Event Relived) and “ROFL XD” moments *(like having both Viscant and Flocker go back to back cr.L as Dark Phoenix) but most importantly I got to see a REAL player named FLOCKER showing skills in EVERY character he had on his team and NOT just Phoenix.

    Most of his wins were from his VERY loose and well trained zero keeping even the best of characters just out of reach and punishing when they got close. And in regards to his Phoenix, even when he burned his X-Factor early and and then ended up having a near to death phoenix he still outplayed and was able to come back and win it when just ONE hit of CHIP would have killed him off.

    Now I don’t like Phoenix and I don’t support Phoenix players regardless of how skilled they could truly be. HOWEVER, if EVERY Phoenix player was as skilled as this guy FLOCKER was, I could honestly say that I would respect them just as much if not more than everyone else. This may be this guy’s first major but I guarantee you it will NOT be his last I promise. He is a testament to show that just because I am a Phoenix team, doesn’t make you a fraud and just because I use invincible assist characters doesn’t mean I don’t know how to use them to their full potential.

    In regards to his opponent, I’m not going to discount Viscant and his efforts today but I will say this: I hope he has learned that picking a character strictly for one aspect of them and not knowing how to play them to their full (EVEN IF HE USED TO PLAY THAT CHARACTER BUT DOESN’T NOW) only gives you a wasted slot and the embarrassment of having your ignorance of the character shown.

    Anyways, great showcase of talent tonight and the HYPE… it was just overpowering. Keep it up FGC and I will ALWAYS return back for more.

        Yeah, watching him play regular phoenix like he did was the highlight of the tournament.  I’d never really seen her play before because almost every single player who uses her tends to just eat damage and go dark as soon as possible.  Flocker on the other hand knew how to play her so well that he was actually a force with just regular phoenix before dark even came out.

        how.to.misread a statement. I wasn’t.saying.that he was ignorant of.the game
        and how to play it but his.change.from haggar to that of tron while temporarily
        beneficial cost him the set. While his wesker/haggar/phoenix team might
        be.polished to near perfection, his inexperience with his tron replacement
        caused him to doubt the validity of certain setups and execute setups only
        available through through use of.haggar and thus this cost him dearly. Command
        grab setups whiffing because tron caused his opponent too much block stun, and
        anti air.grabs.setups that fail because of being thrown into gustaf fire and
        causing soft knockdowns. His change to tron is what lost him the match and
        there is no mistaking that.

        Try to use reading comprehension and understanding statements before making
        assumptions and shooting your mouth off. Where do these commenters come from?

    LOL @ Viscant surviving simply by abusing Haggar assist and Phoenix, then when it doesn’t work against someone try to go for a cheesier assist. The fact that he’s a top player making it so far into tournaments shows how bad this game is. This dude has no idea how to use any character and just tries to use the cheapest shit possible. Shouts to Flocker being the only person capable of using Phoenix and not just having her on the roster for Dark Phoenix. If his Zero died, he usually brought in Phoenix to do work.

          Believe it or not while at first I felt the same way, Champ actually does have some non-phenix skills with his mag/dormammu team. He knows how to get in and destroy if given the opportunity. NOw granted at times if he loses phoenix he can get flustered and make mistakes but he has gotten better at transitioning playstyles on the fly and really stepping up to the plate when this happens.

          And this is coming from a guy who originally saw champ as nothing but a raw untalented whiner. He has proven that he is actually a talented player.

          Believe it or not while at first I felt the same way, Champ actually does have some non-phenix skills with his mag/dormammu team. He knows how to get in and destroy if given the opportunity. NOw granted at times if he loses phoenix he can get flustered and make mistakes but he has gotten better at transitioning playstyles on the fly and really stepping up to the plate when this happens.

        Champ was eating damage as regular just to pop dark.  I don’t think he ever did much of anything as regular phoenix.  His Dark Phoenix, IMO, is probably the best in the tournament though due to his crazy mix-ups but he completely 100% relies on dark phoenix while the rest of his characters are meter builders.

      Who cares how Viscant uses Haggar…Justin abuses Akuma, so does Yipes.  Combofiend depends on Task arrows to cover his She Hulk.

      Viscant’s haggar and his Wesker/haggar do things people wished they figured out early on.  That duo ripped up a lot of people in tourney and it only didn’t work against an equally tough assist in Tron.

      He does deserve a bit of criticism for his tron being totally useless after Flocker was able to adapt, but lol if Viscant is that bad of a player then everyone should be making finals with his team.

          People like you make me face palm.  If it was so easy then why aren’t people using his setup and beating him?  I’m no fan, I hate phoenix teams, but he’s placed consistently and done well where others have not.  Everyone abuses “cheap” things in MvC3.  That’s what the game is built around.  Being creative with your setups is actually encouraged and you’re dogging a guy who not only came up with a solid setup but has been able to execute at a high level.

          The name of the game in MvC3 is cheap.  Do you see how Justin Wong plays his Storm?  That is very annoying and cheap the way he handles his matches when using that character.  I don’t see you commenting on that.

      Viscant is a very clever player. I think he used to play Morrigan (very well) but eventually switched to his current stronger team that requires less effort. Yes, his Wesker and Haggar are pretty cheap but he’s in it to win it.

      He lives like an hour away from me and I already knew about Felicia’s potential a long while back.  My brother runs her as anchor and she has one of the best XF2/3 games also.  She’s completely immune to advance guard once she gets in and TOD’s super easy in XF3.  Plus kitty helper and XF3 creates some of the most bullshit team killing situations in the game.

    I love how people who haven’t even played UMVC3 are raving about how its all over for Phoenix players based off what they’ve read thus far. I’ve PLAYED the game on two separate occasions now and there is still PLENTY of nonsense for Phoenix players to use. There’s just more tools for people to beat her but good Phoenix players will still be able to win with her. it will just be a little harder. I want her chicken head cut off just as bad as everyone else but everybody expecting Ultimate to be the scion of balance for the Marvel community are pinning a lot of misplaced faith in this new iteration.

    Phoenix is getting nerfed up hard in Ultimate to the point where she won’t be able to survive even the first snapback unless she gets really lucky.

            She’s really not broken. You need 5 bars just to make her turn into Dark Phoenix, meaning you can’t use meter or risk not having enough when she’s called in. her health is the lowest in the game by about half of the second-lowest health character in the game. You can do shit to bring her in and prevent her from turning into Dark Phoenix.

    Watched the stream this weekend and it was great. I enjoyed the Top 16 for AE on stream, but it took too long. Spooky should start doing the double set up like it was used in Devastation last week (one match running, while other match is idle on the second set up, where they can do button tests and stuff), it would save a lot of time. Also, ST was great, but it’s a shame I didn’t get to see MvC2.

      But all in all yes you are correct. VIscant DOES indeed have skill no doubt. However when he gets emotional in the battle (such as when he loses phoenix early to something simple or unexpected) he starts to get sloppy sometimes which costs him matches. And times like this past weekend where he swapped out him team member Haggar for that of Tron, that was a horrible mistake because his unfamiliarity with combos and setups with Tron instead of that of Haggar costs him the match in the long run..

          Exactly.  Ok folks, it’s really easy to understand.  People like Viscant ARE skilled.  When they go to a tourney however, they will choose the “cheapest” tactic to win that tourney.  They will pick characters like Phoenix and apply the skill they have to that character to win.  You don’t respect Phoenix players, fine, neither does Justin.  But it’s not that they don’t have skill, just that they are willing to be super cheasy to win.  Which in reality is what you are supposed to do at a tournament.  Win.

    I know nothing about compettive fighting games, but holy cow, there were some awesome matches over the past few days, even if at times I had no idea what was going on.

    Off the top of my head, the Good vs Evil Marvel thing was EPIC, I had never seen a crowd get so excited before. Coming from Starcraft 1 and 2, having the camera and mics picking up the crowd during that was amazing.

      It’s great shit right!!!  Just go to a tournament sometime, it’s so hype.  I remember my first big one.  I had no idea what was going on, a true scrub (still am honestly), but it’s great time.

    Michigan had two reps in Top 16.  Everyone else was foreign or from California (oh and Dieminion from NY).  Good shit Michigan :)

         I know. It just gets boring watching the same Magneto, Wolverine, Wesker, etc combos. FlashMetroid’s V.Joe was so refreshing to watch as was DJ Huoshen’s Felicia. MailOrder’s Arthur at Devastation was fun to watch especially when he took out FChamp’s Dark Phoenix during her transformation. I think Marlin Pie is the only other person that I’ve seen who has been able to destroy Phoenix during her transformation.
