The GamesCom trailer for Soul Calibur V reveals a number of returning characters. With this sequel taking place 17 years after the last game’s story, you never quite know which characters you can count on to return to the series. I noticed Hilde, Voldo, Maxi, and Tira during the trailer. Did you see any more?

      I think Kilik might be dead. Remember that girl they showed at Evo that was Xianghua’s daughter? She has the same necklace as Kilik. And on Twitter the producer said Kilik is an ill fated father. SO I think Kilik is her dead father cause of his relationship with Xianghua and the necklace.

            LoL @ people not understanding that Kilik not being in the game is like Ryu not being in SF, and acting as if making bland remarks about how they got over a small change (albeit a stupid one) to one character is comparable to a paradigm shift to the entire series.

    Tira is in or atleast it looks like her. Now I just have to hope for Amy. Hopefully after all this time Tira has learned to control her split personallity so she can use the strengths of both jolly and gloomy.

      Sophitia might be the new Nightmare. Remember the trailer before this there was an evil female voice that was talking to Pyrrah. And she did go for Soul Edge at the end of 4 so she might be the new host for it like Nightmare was.

          But that would make it the only SC4 footage in the entire trailer. I’m more inclined to think they just didn’t change his model. The game looks like SC4 anyway, if not for the changed outfits and new characters.

    I know its an alpha and all but the game looks kinda ugly,even SC4 looked better i think :/ As for the characters pretty good choices,Volvo hasn’t changed much though lol

    Since SCIII Namco’s made the shittiest trailers for upcoming Soul Calibur games. It’s always old music from previous games with a bunch of fast-cuts and retarded camera angles of old moves with words like “EXTREME AGILITY” popping on the screen for no reason. Lazy bullshit just to appeal to newcomers who’ve never played a good SC game in their lives.

    Just announce all of the little weaboo anime girl characters that people wanna play and call it a day, no need to make it 1 minute and 35 seconds. And Kilik is dead? That’s great news. He was my favorite (and only) character which means Namco was kind enough to put an end to his misery before another shitty SC came out. And since he’s gone they spared me the trouble of playing it, too.

      Honestly, I could care less who does or doesn’t make the game. I played the hell out of Ryu and Chun in Super Turbo and the Alpha series…know who I played in 3rd Strike? Twelve and Elena.

      If the game’s good and a character’s style appeals to me, I’ll play, regardless of what the name says and the avatar looks like. As a Kilik main, I’ll miss him, but honestly I’ll wait and see what the game does before I say yay or nay based on a character (or lack of) and a trailer.

    I think namco is being somehow brave, because making the game to happen several years after the last, and probably leaving many old characters out, may upset some fans. I for one won’t like if they leave Raphael out, which unfortunately i’m almost sure will happen, so they will keep only an older Amy. I hope i’m wrong though.

    Im excited for the release of this game, but I thought the producers at Namco anounced that the game would be mechanicaly different due to shortened weapons, Siegfried still has a giant sword and all shorter weapons were no shorter than short weapons in previous games. Also I thought that soul edge or whatever the swords are called, were done with, but this trailer seems to be same old story same style weaponary. I’m not complaining, just a little confused as I thought the info was from teh top. I don’t know why people keep coating this game, it’s fun, deep and the only game to have mastered 3d fighting mechanics. Characters in this game have so much variety and voldo’s mix up game really is pushing the imagination, and it was in the game from time ago. I think what has got people is how well soul calibur looked and played on the dreamcast, and you lookk at the game today and it looks great but has it evolved as much as it should or was it just way ahead of it’s time.

      I agree with everything you said. Why does Soul Edge have a role it’s not suppose to be about that any more? If they were going to do the same story they might as well have just given us a “True” sequel to SC4, and not a reboot or whatever this shit is supposed to be. Soul Calibur really is the only game to to master 3D fighting mechanics, and is probably one of the most polished fighting games to date; it’s unfortunate that they reached such a peek of excellence, and don’t seem to no where to take it now -_-

        THing is just becuase they have lost there way a little, it still doesn’t deserve the negativity it has been getting. There is more evolution between characters in one game than there is between some games sequels. Soul Calibur really is a great game, I just can’t beleive Tekken is from the same camp, just the character designs in Tekken make me question who’s behind it, there’s no edge, more like ask a 5 year old what looks kool. But in saying that I’m expecting great things from Namcos Tekken x Street Fighter

    Still waiting for Astaroth… Kilik… Raphael… and Cervantes… my main is Ivy -the only woman I ever used in a fighting game- and I’m pleased with the way she looks, after all, she is an alchemist , no wonder why she looks so young.

    This game is going to suck ass, and that’s not me being negative that’s me being realistic. They are killing off all of our favorite characters, and in case Namco didn’t know, characters are the only reason outside of gameplay that we care about a sequel, and their fucking that all up.

    Yeah their bringing back Hilde, Maxi, Voldo, Tira, and more than likely Cervantes as well, but at the same time who really wanted a new Soul Calibur game where you have to worry if your favorite is returning? Not me.

    Sequels are simple give people more of what they love, just add some new interesting shit into the mix. That’s all, but instead they’d rather give us old shit in a new form, and that simply won’t do. Don’t give us Sophitia as her daughter, an imitation Taki, killl of old favorites, or have classic characters get their shit dented in byt the new character in every trailer to make us like them more, make something truly new don’t just claim to.

    Another gripe I have is why do Hilde, Tira, and Maxi look as if they haven’t aged at all, and I mean not day from 17 years ago? I prefer them as their young incarnations so I am not complaining, but it’s just another perplexing thing about SC5 that I just don’t give a fuck enough to understand, this game hasn’t given me enough reason to do that, and I doubt it will.

        @ Hogosha For one, 3rd strike is a great game and I play it all the time, second they didn’t kill Ken, they didn’t Kill Sagat they just weren’t in the game; furthermore it wasn’t 17 years in the future, so the changes present in 3rd Strike didn’t effect the entire games story line. The 3rd Strike for stupid comment is that out of all the things I pointed out that’s the only goofy thing you could think to say LoL.

        @ Super Moose No I am not, because I never wanted Mega Man in the game, Zero is more than enough. I am crying over the fact that 30 seconds of my time replying to you though (tear) -_-

      I’d wait till release, as all they have to do, is make a new character which is just an old favourite, with a fresh new face. But The story is rubbish, and it’s stupid to limit the games potential around a story no one really care sabout.
