Rising Star Noah Gets His Evo 2011 Award!

As many of you know, Noah was the kid prodigy that took Evo by storm this year, by getting top 48 in Marvel Vs Capcom 3.  His team of Hulk, Wesker, Sentinel was rocking many players this year, who weren’e expecting much from this eight year old. When Evo handed out awards, Noah had already left for home after the Marvel 3 Finals. He had no clue he had won the “Rising Star” award for Evo 2011.

Noah has finally received his award, and sent us some pictures to show how happy he is.

Congrats Noah!

  • Sleazoid

damn noah takes good care of his teeth

which is a shame cause he’ll get a new set of teeth in like 4 years.

    • Raidou

those ARE his permanent teeth. lol

    • Sirrus

i got my wisdom teeth at 12 years old too

      • Raidou

are you sure they were your wisdom teeth? that’s freakishly early. I’m a hygienist so I get geeky about this shit. DERAAAIL lol

  • Nemesis00

What a load of horse shit.

    • EAA575

      You mad?

    • BiGGDaddyCane

Damn son lmao, hating on a child

    • SC4R3CR0W

Is that code for: “Pass the salt.”?

    • SDC

Yeah, screw that kid for being better than most of the other players in the WORLD at MvC3 at the age of eight.

      • GomuGomu

        (╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻

        • tjs-bne

          took me a minute… but I think you just flipped a table…

    • Dragoomba

Lol, Noah wasn’t even that good. I have NO idea how he got in top 32. Props to him on getting that far, though. His age seems to be causing some kind of placebo effect with the community.

      • Mr. X

        No one likes blocking.

        • KowtowRobinson

This, people running face first into the Hulk is funny to me, but still the kid is 8 let him have his props. I love how some salty asshats are taking shots at an 8 year old kid, when they should be taking shots at people not blocking. Was Noah a dominant player? No, of course he wasn’t he’s fucking 8 YEARS OLD. If y’all can’t just shut up and be happy for an 8 year old, then I dunno what else to say.

      • ChibiMana

It was as if Hulks jump S was some hidden technology for Evo that no one could stop.

      • Spectaa

Nobody gives him a chance against any top player (he is fucking 8) , I don’t know what you’re talking about.

    • ChampionshipEdition

Proof that SRK front page trolls will shit on ANYTHING.

    • Ultimatekaos

Its not hate. It just sad how ass the fighting community really is. go check his bracket. Who was good in it? Noone! Did anyone go and learn how to zone in this game. Mind that hulf hit box. In fact. You know what. I am gonna lie to myself and hop and the bandwagon. Ohhh, he is SOOO GOOD!!!!

      • Shaeknbaek

        RoyalFlush is a good player.

  • Private Eyeball

As cute at this may be, CJ Truth got robbed. Robbed, i tells ya!

    • KinetiK

I agree, CJ is an incredibly good player and very smart, he should’ve gotten it.

  • BshidoHEAT

I don’t want to hate but he got top 48 in a game designed for his age group…..

    • SFGIEF

      I lul’d

    • ChibiMana

      He entered Brawl?

    • ahdonye

and what game did you place top 48 at?

    • b3nz0r

All three of these replies made me lol ^

      Even though I like Marvel 3 a lot. :p

    • JinboYa

You are totally right. MvC3 is a childs game. Its one of my favorite games because I am a comic book fan, but this game is free. We all know it and just need to admit it. How many 8 year olds could place top 50 in Marvel 2? The answer is none. The probability of them being able to pull of a ROM infinite or having the coordination to 1 hit kill a character is slim to none.

  • nakadish

I like that they gave him an award, hopefully it will drive him to continue to play fighting games, and he can get a top 8 trophy next year.

  • Infinity Jiraiya

LOL! He has a bright future ahead of him… for fighting that is.

  • ChibiMana

I had no clue he won either. Congrats kid! lol

  • KingElric21

This kid is too adorable…… Good luck for him in the future! He really deserves this for his beasting performance at EVO.

  • IIDX advocate

Did anyone notice it says “Acheivement Unlocked” on the trophy?

    • Bob Sagat

That’s briljant. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • ahdonye

What the fuck is wrong with some of you? The only reason anyone here is showing hate towards an eight year old is because Noah is better now at eight than any of you who are being an ass will ever be.

    • GomuGomu

lol yeah, sure buddy. People need to stop coming out with these bullshit assumption. Not that I’m hating of course.

    • descentr

Thou art superior to all, sir. I bestow upon thee ten thousand internets.

    • Godly-Effect

People hate other peoples success. IT’S A CIRCLE OF LIFE!

    • DontTaseMeBro

Ahdonye, the problem is the SRK community has went to shit itself. Its really sad. :( At least Event Hubs isn’t like this.

  • DGNR8

Imagine what he’ll be capable of in fighting games in another 8 years.

And to all who are hating….die in a fire! That kid is my hero!

  • Stuart Hayden

People need to shut the fuck up and quit hating. Noah is the truth. He’s the future. I talked to him a bit at EVO after his game with Chris G and he understands the fighting game tournament mentality more than 90% of SRK. ]

He deserves this reward more than anyone else.

  • liana-c

As soon as Noah came off the stage, I was immediately thinking ‘this kid HAS to come away with some kind of award or honorable mention’. And here it is!

    Well deserved! :)

  • HokutoSuccessor

Shoutouts to the kid for getting as far as he did. No doubt he’s amazing at his age, but I still think I lot of people choked up against him for the simple fact that he was a kid. (Sort of how you never want to lose to a Dan, and end up losing because you worry about losing so much).

I like Winrich more though. That kid has mad skills.

  • DevilJin 01

Inb4 CJ Truth Kanye West reference.

  • mrshmearo

Cute trophy, hopefully this motivates him to get even better.

  • abandonist

Watching him play, is he “pro” level? No, of course not. But at the end of the day he won a fair amount of matches. In a community that champions “winning above all,” maybe it just takes being 8 years old and throwing you off your game.

  • Iori crimson

Good Job Noah even for his age he show a heart of a champion hope to see u at EVO 2012

  • descentr

Wuz he usin’ da hitbox? Come to think of it, was anyone at Evo using a Hitbox?

    • b3nz0r

I enjoy how you turned that into English for the second sentence.

  • Katt

Wasn’t he just mashing heavy with hulk? Lol
Anyways this kid needs to focus on his school so he can become someone successful. Not trying to become a pro fg player that pays shit. If he even wins.

    • zebub blast

How much school does an 8 year old have to focus on? He’s not some MIT engineering student. Now’s the time he has to play all the games he can before has has to deal with the BS of the real world and being an adult.

      • Katt

Actually he has the most important stuff at school right noe. The fundamentals. Not hating on the kid at all. It’s Marvel. Anyone can win. With xfactor and happy bdays.

        • LeeRockU

The Tourney was at the near end of summer and I doubt his parents would let his accomplishments get in the way of education at this early stage of life.

    • MrTIM

No, he wasn’t mashing heavy at all. Most his actual kills came from Sentinel or Wesker, not Hulk.

Every motherfucker is getting salty because he abused the hyper armor on Hulk’s H. He certainly used the move too much, but he was hardly mashing it. Dude knew how to capitalise on people’s mistakes and happy birthday situations.

Y’all are just so insecure that Noah knows more about playing the game than most people here.

  • RoboGem II

To any of the truly salty folks here and not just the trolls, you fail as a player and a sportsman. Unless you made the effort to evo and placed higher than he did, you can’t say shit. Furthermore, if you havn’t noticed, the game isn’t completely “random” and most of the top players expected to get to the top got there. Sucks to be you.

  • ADMARA

To everyone here im 16 right now, i go to weekly local tournaments here. age dont really matter i suppose but for noah. He’s alot better then most of us were at that age.

Shoot when I was 8 i was mashing shoryuken in SF2 turbo for my snes.
I didn’t take fightin games serious until i was 14.

I feel though that CJ truth should’ve got an award aswell. He’s 12 and beat TOP players at a harder game. Good job Noah

    • Shishioh

So you played SNES…8 years ago…instead of a more up to date console?

      Nigga you broke.

But on a lighter note, Noah is one ugly ass kid…

    • LosCakes

Yeah, okay. You’re only 16 but you still played old school games when you were a kid. You’re either ridiculously broke or completely full of shit.

      • MTS

Nothing wrong with someone growing up playing real games on real consoles. (NES/SNES/Genesis etc)

        • LosCakes

          I agree. That’s why I’m suggesting that he’s lying.

  • tylerzd

    Congratulations Noah! :D

Evo equivalent of the white jersey (best young rider in cycling). Love it.

  • RafyToro

CJ deserves this award…he actually MADE top 32 in a game that is FARRR more challenging to be at a top level with and with far higher competition. He beat Mike Ross and Evans from Europe to get to top 32 at age 13…disappointment :/. Congrats to Noah though.

    • BshidoHEAT

This… CJ has gone to most if not all the east coast major tournaments in the summer and has done consistently well. No hate on Noah though (my comment was about the game not the kid, which I think he’s great so don’t get me wrong) but I think CJ worked harder for this award than anyone else.

  • KaiSing

If CJ Truth deserves an award, so does Jayce the Ace.

    • ADMARA

It’s just that the teenagers like jayce the ace and cj don’t get all this fame for actually doing well…jayce the ace has been good for the last three years i’ve known of him.

      They havent been getting anything

    • RafyToro

Jayce the Ace didn’t get 17th Place at EVO…

  • Squared

Lol, some of these comments make me feel like I’m on 4chan

    • johnnydo

Probably has something to do with the fact a few of these dudes DO come from 4Chan (/v/, to be specific)

  • Dimitri Lionheart

I am crazy, or is he wearing a Dark Pheonix shirt? :P

It does say “Cant Control It” at the bottom

  • stanz3000

Great!!Congrats! I hope we start seeing more kids getting up there with the higher ranks. I mean these are video games we are talking about here, right? MVC3, SFIVs’… Who else besides adults play video games?LOL! Lighten up haters. One day we may see a 5 year old demolishing ppl at a tournament. Son of a videogame legend perhaps???

  • SNAAAAKE

    pro

  • The Invincible Swordsman

OH! Hate hate hate hate hate!

Hey Noah! That’s very insulting what you said about my suit. It’s made from your mother’s pubic hairs.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put some water in Nemesis00 water dish.

    • LosCakes

      lulz

  • Aukmaud

    Those 8 year old reflex’s!

  • Spectaa

Everyone hating here should probably be in their lab trying to get better (at life).
    Congrats kid.

    • AYGCSMD

Last time I checked, that would mean you didn’t HAVE a life.

If I tape a Hori Stick to my dog’s paw and enter him at Evo2012, can he get a pity trophy, too?

      • ChampionshipEdition

In order to get your dog to Evo, that’d mean you’d need to leave your basement and walk into a hall of actual FG players.

Sadly, I think Spot won’t get his trophy in 2012.

Well, maybe you could ask your mom to take him for ya. Best of luck :)

        • b3nz0r

          A winner is you!

          • AYGCSMD

OH EM GEE! Internet quotes! You sir, are a master at retorts.

        • redmetal

im betting his house doesn’t have a basement. i know mine sure doesn’t

        • AYGCSMD

“Basement”? “Spot”? “Ask my mom”? I didn’t know we were using 90s sitcom cliche “insults”. I think NOT going to that shitfest you call a “gaming tournament” proves that I DO have a life.

          • yhposolihP

Arguing semantics is the verbal equivilant to going down kicking and screaming., because you completely admit that you have absolutely nothing to retort with other than pointing out words.

            You’ve done this twice now.

          • KowtowRobinson

Because it’s way cooler to log onto SRK and shit on an 8 year old, right? Fuck outta here.

  • SSRagna

Noah was on that Viscant mentality, his team has “blow anyone who wasn’t taking advantage of the cheapness in game up” written all over it, so fucking props to him. Very interested in what he decides to do when he gets older.

  • Thancruz

NOAH NOAH NOAH! I loved watching him blow ppl up :) .

  • JedahScythe

Got to chat with Noah at EVO for a while he’s very mature for his age congrats keep up the beast playing and hope to see you next year!

  • Deebs

I hope Noah’s parents don’t let him go on SRK.

    • deadfrog

      This kid is so awesome.

      2006
Josh Wigfall: “You got a pretty smile, bitch!”
      Dark Prince: >:-(

      2011
Haters: “You got a pretty smile, bitch!”
      Noah: :-D

  • eperelez

    Noah SMASH! Congrats! :D

  • NeoBlood

Well deserved. Hes the risingest stariest kid in the fgc.

  • Dingo Cheetobrows

I can save myself a trip to the grocery store with all salt in here.

  • PrideAndFury

Yes spoil the kid now so that he turns into an arrogant asshole when he grows up. Lol he didn’t even know any legitimate combos and got into top 48 of Marvel. Tells alot about that game.

    • abandonist

I’m going to need what a “legitimate combo” is explained to me.

      • BurstZX

lol anything higher than 10 and cant be countered smh

        • Fenaris

“My rules do not mesh with your rules therefore you’re wrong.”

That’s all I heard here. Keep getting bodied by simple B&Bs with maxed damage. Stay free.

          • PrideAndFury

Lol he did Team Aerial Combo exchanges almost every time and he didn’t know a single combo with Wesker. He didn’t even use Level 3 X-Factor gunshot. He just flailed around.

  • Alex

did everyone get an award like that? or is he given special treatment because of his age? if its the later then a lil hate is understandable.

    • AYGCSMD

      OBVIOUSLY

    • Hotdogmarchant

I’ve tried to come up with a way to reply to this, but it’s just too stupid.

  • Streye

Good for him. He picked 3 of the hardest hitting characters of the game that required low execution to be effective and he blew people up. There’s nothing more to it. Though I wonder if he was born that day cause everyone kept giving him “happy birthdays”.

    • ANewChallenger

Yeah, Marvel’s all about execution heavy characters like Viper, Hsien-Ko and…

      ….

      …….

      ………

………..Phoenix? Fuck, man guess you know the game better than I do.

  • Ranadiel

Props to Noah. Also, EVO isn’t just for pros, it’s for anyone who wants to enter and play on the grandest stage the US Fighting Game Community has to offer. So for people who are trying to take away from Noah’s achievement, just keep in mind he earned his wins just like everyone else. Whatever his team composition was made of is beside the point.

  • Realpolitix

Noah does counter-hit set-ups with Bison in SSFIV. I was spamming Fire Blast wtih Charizard at that age. Props to him for getting far at EVO, more than half of these trolls couldn’t do the same.

  • KillaFox

Anyone who lost to this kid should be ashamed of themselves. Unacceptable.

    • BurstZX

^ If this is the best evo has to offer for MvC ill be there next year….

  • boogityboy

Anyone who has anything not even remotely positive to say about this kid should go F themselves. You give this community a bad name with that attitude. If anything people should be encouraging a kid like Noah not hating on them because they cant get top 48 at a major. F’ing disgraceful.

    • Beebo

He just doesn’t deserve the price. It’s a special treatment and the community shouldn’t stand for that. There were much better new players on the tournament but because this kid is 8 he wins the prize, I thought it was about fighting games not age?

And everyone saying people are mad because they were not that good back then. I don’t know about you but I def. could use the strategies he used, there was no advanced stuff just the basics. Just because you guys were horrible doesn’t mean everyone was back then ;)

      • Hotdogmarchant

But he got the prize BECAUSE he was 8! Can you say you’d have placed in the top 48 at EVO when you were 8?
God, that’s like complaining about a one handed player getting top 48 and being given a prize, because apparently he’s been given special treatment.

        • Beebo

I don’t know if I would’ve placed 48th at EVO when I was 8 because that’s speculation. What I do know is that considering how aweful his opponents were it wasn’t a big feat that he did.

And yes if a one handed player got top 48 and played as crappy as Noah he shouldn’t be given a prize. He didn’t win.

Just treat everyone the same, it’s a tournament not some charity fest.

          • joker101

Uh oh, we got a cunt here, is that it?

  • Joe The Condor

Noah is awesome for proving that Marvel is for everyone.

  • kerano1

How can some of you hate on a kid just to get your point across that you don’t like mvc3? Even if the game was as basic as some people are saying, he’s 8, that shit isn’t basic for a 8 year old, it’s not basic for 90% of people here. Good for him,
I hope he sticks around because I’d love to see what he’s capable of in the future, kids that age don’t usually have the intelligence to learn to play a fighting game, let alone get good..He’s definitely talented.

    • GuyWithNoHat

I laughed…oh boy you really haven o idea what you are talking about. kids under the age of ten can easily learn anyhting they want. the brain is capable of quickly adapting/learning and understanding new things at a rate an adult can only dream of. and you dont grow more intelligent as you get older lol, you are either born intelligent, or stupid its as simple as that.
so next time please have an idea of what youre talking about.

      • Incorruptibility

        False.

Research has shown that logic develops in the brain between ages 7 and 11. There is definitely things that could be “beyond” his understanding. Feel free to look up Piaget if you feel like educating yourself instead of posting things you know nothing about.

      • TrollThisSRK

“you dont grow more intelligent as you get older lol, you are either born intelligent, or stupid its as simple as that”

This is monstrously untrue. For example, just because you’re clearly blind stinkin RETARDED right now, doesn’t mean you will be forever.

  • MREX

The kid was great to watch, he deserved some praise for his achievement.

  • SaltPatrol

I honestly don’t know how he got to top 48, must have been a lot of bad players entering but I’d have expected a better level of play by that point. When I saw his matches I was just surprised you could get that far in the tournament with that level of play.

    • KowtowRobinson

There WERE a ton of bad players in his bracket, that’s true. We could be negative and shit on them, too. But all this hate for an 8 year old? Come on, SRK.

You know why he’s getting special treatment for being an 8 year old? Because performing at the level he did as an 8 year old is really fucking impressive. If you judge his game alongside experienced pros, is his game that impressive? Not as much. But you don’t do that, BECAUSE HE’S FUCKING 8 YEARS OLD.

      Jesus, SRK………

  • Panic Ave

    Assholes.

  • GuyWithNoHat

And os he got a price that was invented only for him….in life you dont get a price for participating ina tournament yo uget it for winning. if youre 8 years old or an adult doesnt make a difference. I never heard anybody got a trophy for scoring the 48th place at the olympic games, no matter his age. so all evo doing here is tooting its own horn, cause any pr is good pr eh ? however of course for noah its cool that he got a trophy and of cours eits nice to see that there are upcoming playersstarting at such a young age, but its a pointless trophy becaue he got it for his age not because he accomplished anything. and life and tourneys dont go that way you dont get trophys for trying, you get em for succeeding and its in the interest of the child to learn that.

    • Hotdogmarchant

Does a personalised glass trophy take more than one day to prepare and be delivered? Because if it does, the award was clearly not made for him, because they must have had one already made.

  • ihira

I think we can all agree that he’s very talented for his age and gave us one of the most entertaining moments as spectators.

But Its these kinds of awards that’s irrelevant to the placement that stirs all this hate and controversy.

  • Shinkada

Even if he was playing scrubbily by abusing Day 1 tactics, it’s still ridiculously impressive. 8 years old? The only fg I’d played back then was SF2, and I thought doing a shoryuken was some impossible feat that’d make me the best player in the world. When I realized you could mash heavy kick in the air and you’d hit them a SECOND TIME when you hit the ground, my mind was blown. Like 4-5 years later I played Guilty Gear X2 in an arcade and bitched about how absurdly unfair Millia was because her Instant Kill hit anywhere on the screen.

I know it’s a different age because of the internet and trial mode and all, but still, goddamn. Considering I found any special attack motion difficult back then, I certainly wouldn’t have been able to do even the most basic magic series combo in MvC3.

That being said I do still think CJ deserved this more, but, who cares, really?

  • BurstZX

I will give him this he is outstanding for his age. But really now? what he was doing was so repetitive and nobody was stopping him is this really the best people can do?really? I skipped evo this year because i thought everyone that was going was out of my league but clearly they were not…

    • Takari

And this is why this kid is lightyears ahead of you. Just sayin’.

      • BurstZX

Because I thought the people going were going to be better than me because I got the game in late june? Or is it because I could see through his tactics? Or is it because I had a modest mindset thinking people are better than me?

        • BurstZX

Oh wait I forgot the big one~ Or was it for speaking my mind on the internet?

          • ihira

Sure, I’m a nobody as well but the difference between you and I is
            1) I didn’t claim I’m good or better than these people (aka talking shit)
            2) I payed my own money and went to evo. Not my fault you can’t afford a $500 ticket.

        • ihira

No because you’re the typical SRK nobody that talks shit but doesn’t back it up let alone travel to evo.

          • BurstZX

Buy me a $500 2-way flight ticket and u will see me rock peoples world in MvC3 I mean u dont even know who i am and guess what i dont know who you are which make you a nobody as well and FYI I was not talking shit reread what i posted and soak it in u little fk.

  • Jubileus

He didn’t play Phoenix and he gave a good effort at EVO. He’s 8 years old and getting a trophy for playing his heart out in front of thousands of people including people watching him over a stream internationally. Good for him. Glad he got a trophy to motivate him to keep playing and improving.

I doubt most of you would have been able to do the same at his age, let alone at your current age.

  • EcKo Zero Cool

its nice to see someone of his age do so well in an event as big as evo :)

  • darth_nevermore

what a bunch of dicks on this site!

    ‘he’s not even that good’

did you make a difference at evo?
did you end up getting an award for showing you can can compete in a contest against people alot older than you?

this kid had skills and made a name for himself, what the hell have any of you pathetic losers done?

  • King9999

This kid is going to be a monster when he’s older. I can’t wait to see what other players will have to deal with in a few years!

  • GomuGomu

Seriously, so much crying here lol. Congrats to the kid but damn, some of you need to stop talking shit and making things seems better than they are. You see someone get that far by mashing out fierce SRKs, lariat, 360s, and ultras you’d be like how the fuck this guy get that far? Mash fighter 4!!

Failure to capitalize on easily predictable, punishable, and baitable tactics does not equal great skill on behalf of the winning player. It just means the loser does not have the awareness and/or skill to deal with it.

  • kerano1

@GuyWithNoHat Obviously a kid can learn at a faster rate, no one argued otherwise. It’s rare to see one intelligent enough to know WHAT to learn to win and especially 1 patient enough. Saying people don’t get more intelligent as they age is a stupid thing to say, there’s degredation after a certain age sure, but babies don’t start off in their prime -.- The ability to learn is only 1 part of intelligence.
You jumped to a bunch of conclusions just to put down my post and you’re hating on a 8yr old, wtf.

  • Mr.Chang

    Mash H harder, Noah..

  • LeeRockU

Okay no hate but what the kid lacks in skillz he makes up in guts. At his age I’d never enter a fighting game tourney and a Major no less. If he keeps this fearless charisma and hones his skillz he will be a force to be reckoned with.

    • redmetal

      at his age, i didn’t know fighting game tournaments existed. or at least if they did, there were none in my area. ;_;

  • papi170

10 years from now he will be the next Daigo

  • THEQUEENOFLOVEHD

Noah is 8 years old, please stop treating him like he is 8 months old.

  • Zmoney2006

lol This is why I LOVE visiting SRK

The hate, the drama, the witty retorts, the ALL CAPZ ATTACKS, the complaints, etc Hilarious! XD

Anyway, in regards to Noah recieving a prize as best rising star, I think he deserved it and people are taking this token of appreciation for his efforts and the efforts of his parent for allowing him to even enter this tournament are really taking this act WAY too seriously.

People… this award that was given to Noah was not a symbol of favoritism or a belittling of everybody else’s efforts at this past EVO. This was not an attempt to say that this kid was better than everyone else or even deserved the spot he made it or not. This was simply an act of encouragement and appreciation for the effort that he as a kid of his age who could be doing ANYTHING with his life at the moment from concentrating on school to playing football to whatever has put into not only playing games (which 95% of kids his age all do) but actually learning how to play the game correctly even if on just the fundamentals of the game.

Now granted, anyone who watched the stream could see that while he could execute pretty well, his metagame wasn’t the most highest of caliber. And yes, most of the people who went against him had teams that could have easily defeated his entire squad through proper zoning and patience. As mentioned before, I am sure that the age factor or Noah definitely contributed to putting the opponent off edge during the matches causing them to either go easy at first or get flustered at making silly mistakes costing them the set. However, let’s give the kid some props. While predictable and straightforward with his attacks, you have to admit then when opportune times came into play such as happy birthdays and whiffed attacks, Noah never failed to capitalize on them and ensured he did as much damage that he possibly knew how. And let’s not forget that for any attack to hit, it requires your opponent to not be blocking which is ENTIRELY in their control.

So yes, is Noah the new Justin Wong or Viscant? Not at the moment no. He has awhile to go before he can be put on the same caliber as any top FG player as he has a lot to learn but his performance at EVO is just a representation of how dedicated this child is at becoming that next all star and this trophy was the appreciation from the FG community as a whole and the encouragement to keep progressing and keep doing your best.

People all the time complain about how 95% of FG players out there are just button-mashing, predictable, lazy people who know nothing of the game nor put any effort into learning anything. Well then when those shining few who actually want to be truly good show their faces and put in that effort, don’t crap on their accomplishments and their work. Let this kid be happy at feeling like he accomplished something (which he did) this past event and let him build off this accomplishment to further better himself.

    Don’t hate, congratulate.

  • metaphist

The only thing at 8-yr old level in this thread are the comments.

  • Mideon

The kid won an award that pretty much means nothing. Let it go. He’s happy, and he’s 8, so that should be good enough.

  • rtdzign

What kind of asshole hates and rags on the accomplishments of a child?
I already see your children hating you for being an asshole dad, and you will be known by you kid’s friends as the asshole dad who never has anything nice to say.

    • rick_derris

I know, right? It not only makes them look like idiots for acting like jealous 8 year old kids, but it probably brings discouragement for other kids to join the fighting game community? I mean, who would want to be a part of this community when there’s full grown assholes ragging on little kids? This award was given to encourage his efforts, not so you guys feel an 8 year old did better than you. Grow up. Plzktnx

  • Poe22222

Very happy for Noah. I’m sure he has some work to go with his strategies and reading, but the focus, space control, and fundamental understanding of the game is definitely there for him. Of course his game isn’t as developed as Justin’s or Viscant’s… if you are comparing him to them, even subconsciously, you’re an idiot. The fact is an EIGHT YEAR OLD got on stage and beat some great players. Many, many eight year-olds can’t hold a remotely coherent conversation, can’t tie their shoes, can’t read, can barely walk around without falling on their faces, and this kid is beating on serious Marvel players 10-20 years older than he is.

I’m not surprised to hear Stuart Hayden say that he has a better tournament mindset than 90% of people here. Of COURSE he picked strong characters. To me that’s actually a point in his favor – seriously, most kids that age would pick whoever they think looks cool and press random buttons. Who CARES what tactics he used to win? The point is that he won quite a few games in front of A LOT OF PEOPLE at age 8. My guess is that many of you don’t know many eight year-olds or else you’d be more impressed with his accomplishments.

He’s incredible, and I hope that he continues to love it and play hard – who knows what’ll happen for him in a few years.

  • Dpendleton

Man some of you folks should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • Tebbo

I’m glad a baby was able to knock some 20 somethings out of a tournament. Biggest non-winning winner.

  • lunarhostility

All you people hating on a CHILD who BEAT loads of people at EVO should learn to control the rage and salt coursing through your veins. Grow the fuck up, SRK.

  • rawrrissey

That kid is awesome. He wasn’t mashing for the hell of it. He was mashing at the right time. I bet none of you haters have even gone past the fighter rank on mvc3. Congrats to Noah….also, you don’t need to know how to combo to win. Just how to block and capitalize on your opponents whifs …I can’t combo for crap but I’m on the top 2k online…how? Being better than your opponent. Again, Congrats to Noah. Keep lashing away the haters

    • redmetal

you’d probably be number 1 if you could combo :p

  • TrollThisSRK

Don’t get me wrong I think its cool he’s so big into FG at a young age and all, I’m just worried getting an award like this is going to encourage him to hole up in his room instead of going outside, making friends etc .

    • redmetal

you can’t play video games with friends? crap, i’ve been doing it wrong all these years

  • MRGAY

    SODIUM OVERLOAD INCOMING

  • Nini Heart

Get this fucken shit outta here. Rising star for mashing H and UP tac on a bunch of scrubs.

    • TrollThisSRK

Hey remember that time you didn’t get top 48 at anything, ever?

  • Thirtyfour

    Grats to Noah
    Hope you win Evo 2012

  • Pablo_the_Mex

Oh sweet this kid has a head start on being a virgin for life!

Jokes aside, I am curious to see if he actually sticks with fighters.

  • N_paul

I want to see this kid blow up all the stupid haters next year. Was he using stupid one-sided tactics? Yeah, sure. Did he straight up own some people? Hell yes.

Don’t underestimate people before your match. Counter their strategy, and if you really think they are mashing then don’t try to do any risky footsies or mindgames; that gets you opened up into Hulk launcher with your assist into DHC for the win.

  • ReturnOfSanta

Everyone hating here is SALTY. Fact is he got top 48 and you didn’t, deal with it.

  • Pingback: Rising Star Noah Gets His Evo 2011 Award! | Webthaitv

  • Theguesst

Way to be accepting, SRK. I’m guessing next year that you’ll want your “non-white washed evo” back that only lets arrogant snobs like you compete. He earned that not for being the picture boy of the entire community, but for showing that all you need to do to compete in evo is to sign up. Now excuse me while I try to de-salt my monitor.

  • Fenaris

There’s approximately 47 people that can talk shit about Noah’s play at Evo. All the others are just salty. I mean, why learn fancy combos when sensible tactics and simple high damage combos will get you there?

Work Smarter, not Harder. You’re pretty 50+ hit combo got 60% damage? His 8 hit combo + Super just took 50%. Who’s the smart one?

  • feomex

I recorded one of his first matches but my battery die on me lol Enjoy!!

    http://youtu.be/g4N87Yzf7SI

  • bike_seat

“Rising star”? Please. This kid got lucky as hell and can’t combo for shit.

  • white shadow

    lol @ the above hate.

  • WINBACK

This makes Marvel look so great right now.

  • boogityboy

lol at the idiots saying “oh his opponents must not have been good” and all that crap. First round vs Chris G was pretty even til Chris popped xfactor on him.
What about his rounds with gootecks in Street fighter and the multitude of people he blew up at that tourney as well? He has already proven he can hold some water against REAL opponents in other games besides MvC3 so all the little whiners needs to find new useless arguments to promote their idiocy.
Fact is he’s 8 years old, made some great reads, and used his knowledge of basics to their fullest. That takes talent at that age. Give some credit where credit is due instead of hating on some little kid like the scrubs you are.

  • YanDaMan

All the idiotic haters in this post making me laugh so damn hard.

Dont matter what you say or excuses you come up with, HE got top 48, NOT YOU. It doesnt matter if his character are execution heavy or not. HE WON with them. Now kindly STFU. Thanks.

  • redmetal

i have to wonder, if he were an older guy in his 20s, would the people who say “he isnt that good” still be labeled as haters and salty? it seems kinda weird that people keep throwing the fact that he’s 8 around left and right. the fact that he’s 8 shouldn’t matter either way. the only thing that should matter is how well he plays, whether you think its good or bad. i’m sure noah probably doesn’t want everyone concentrating on the fact that he’s 8 every time he encounters someone. he probably just wants to be seen as a normal player like the rest of us, not an “8 year old” player.

after all, he won’t be 8 forever.

    • KowtowRobinson

I just don’t get how people can sit here and act like we should hold him to the same standards as an adult. It’s not just one or two people, I’ve seen this shit a bunch now. The fact that he’s only 8 years old and performing at that level (again not a high level pro, and again that’s not the fucking point) is amazing.

-people could have blocked against the Hulk. Who’s fault is that? Oh let’s all shit on Noah for that oh wait HE’S FUCKING 8 YEARS OLD let’s not do that.
-he wasn’t doing tough Wesker combos, ok cool what combos were you doing at 8 years old?
-his bracket was kinda weak, ok sure but could you have won a single game of that bracket at 8 years old? I couldn’t, I guarantee it.

What he did was amazing FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD. We’re holding him to that standard, because he’s an 8 year old. Trying to argue that he should be held to the same standards as adults there is ridiculous. You can make whatever points you want, what it’s gonna come down to is that you’re actively searching for the rationale to shit on the accomplishments of an 8 year old. Absolutely shameful.

      • redmetal

what in the world are you talking about? if you notice, i haven’t shit on him once in this entire thread. grasping at straws in my comment and typing things in caps won’t get you anywhere. let go of the fact that he’s 8 already. i wouldn’t be surprised if everytime someone metioned he was 8 to his face, he became annoyed by it. like “no duh im 8, what did you think i was, 60?” let him be a normal member of the community like he wanted to be when he started entering tournaments.

  • G0F0RBR0KE

1: If you didn’t even make it top 50. You shouldn’t talk.
2: Noah makes you free. GET OVER IT.
3: We all know he isn’t good. Then again…why are you even typing when you suck, too. You mad that he’s smacking you around and you can’t do it?
