“Balrog: Behind the Glory” Now Available for Free from ChubbyBoyFilms

ChubbyBoy Films premiered the most epic short mockumentary during EVO 2011′s finals day to a huge crowd reaction. If you consider yourself a fighting game fan at all, the sheer number of in-jokes combined with the stellar writing and acting found here are enough to floor anyone. Needs more Balrog? Perhaps today, we need more Tim Tashun.

This made my ass laugh so hard!

  • Tekknight

I had trouble hearing this on stream, but I got to hear most of the jokes. GREAT stuff. Though I don’t play much Street Fighter, I got all the jokes. “No matter WHAT. Always get paid first!” *sniff* I wish my Dad had given me such words of wisdom.

  • Sleazoid

was the “NOOOOO” at 6:20 a reference to ryan hart vs gandido

or were they just really similar sounding “NOOOOO”s

  • girlystyle

they did a great job with this! looking forward to seeing more from these guys in the future.

    • Gandido

Oh God please let it not be this. I’m tired of thinking about Filthie screaming No every time I hear it out loud. :(

      • BLaZiaN

wow you serious? stop hating. this video was amazing. some true original stuff. we need more stuff like this. this was brilliant

  • Eternal

They should change the japanese names for the characters to the US versions and use that story as how it happened. It’s just too awesome.

    • metaphist

Dictator’s face during that scene XD

    • abacus

I wonder how Viscant was able to change in time to play Vega?

    • caiooa

if they put the US name it wold lose the alusion to Mike Tyson

  • Iron DD

This was freakin’ awesome. If anyone is looking at this page and hasn’t watched this yet, you need to watch it NOW!

  • jaib83

    This film was………….Meh

  • WINBACK

The acting was fun and at times believable and that’s because of the good cast. Lots of inside jokes but it didn’t go overboard. Just wish it was longer.

The poker scene was probably my favorite. After that would be the snapshot of Rog doing Dash Upper.

  • GalzPanic

    the dad was dope

  • Guccibear_100

I aint afraid to admit i cried at the end…

  • Karlito504

Dad should get some kind of acting award for this. Great mockumentary

  • TrollThisSRK

I was really expecting more considering all the hype.

  • Kankuri

One of the things that makes me love this short film is the sheer amount of references within it. I mean, the beginning is an obvious reference to old arcade cabinets. If that isn’t enough, there is “Joe” from the original Street Fighter I. Within a minute or two of the film, they are already using sources from past games to fuel the story. How could you NOT love that? Also, the gambling scene where the names are switched is just pure genius. Taking something that was done due to uncertain technicalities and turning into a believable scenario is a definite sign of dedication and understanding of the original plot of the game. Do I even need to mention out awesome it was to use the Arsenio Hall Show?

Then there is the acting. Bison’s father, Floyd Foster, put on a phenomenal performance. For something that is to be considered almost a joke, you can honestly feel the emotions behind his voice when he talks. I was so caught off-guard by the quality of various actors throughout the film.

I want to see more of these, and not just for a few characters either. I’d love to see stories for characters that are very interesting, but never really fully developed. I’m talking about characters like Dan, Guile, Charlie, Sean, Claw (Balrog/Vega), Dictator (M. Bison/Vega), Blanka, and a ton of others. The thought of a movie with Guile and Charlie that has the same quality of Balrog: Behind the Glory almost makes me piss myself.

    Make it happen.

    • NyuBomber

      A billion YES’S to a Charlie/Guile thing!

Or maybe they should redeem Chun after “that movie.”

    • abacus

Id love to see a film like this about The King of Muay Thai!

  • H_Magnus

I felt that the excuse of changing their names because of a poker game was kinda dumb.

But overall, the short was great, specially the Arsenio Hall bit.

  • Vorkosigan

This was absolutely brilliant. It had the perfect mix of serious acting with references to the game.

Two thumbs up, burned to DVD, will show to my grandchildren

  • daemahnic

When will Bang The Machine be available? Seems to be the only one still not available..

  • Bob Sagat

Pretty funny. I could almost not hear the white guy though…
