SSF4AE – Yun’s Crouching Roundhouse Oddity

In the video below, you’ll see something very unnatural happen to Seth. Antiheroforhire uploaded this video, and shortly after, received an explanation from Desk as to why this happened.

“Yeah, that’s really cool. I’ve been able to reproduce it, and it works because Yun’s cr. RH has to allow for the 2nd hit of his target combo. So, the opponent will suffer a hard knockdown, but also be in a juggle-able state. This means that if you’re interrupted you can reversal U1 or EX up-kicks and it will connect. The oddest thing is that if you trade with a normal and are able to hit back soon enough (there’s a very small window), they’ll be fully vulnerable to everything, even throws. This is why Seth remains grounded during the ultra. It’s as if he was just in a vulnerable, standing state. Oh, and did I mention this seems to work on everyone?”

  • Slayerslice

He was mashing that ultra before he was even close to seth lol

    • Jaybonaut

Even Daigo mashes now and then.

    • tempbast

oh man, you’re right the magic cr. RH was just a cause of poor execution! Great discoveries are always found by accident.

  • HowDoIZone

    When it doubt…mash it out

  • Grand ichi

    lol

  • Bloodyshinta

i was just thinking yun didn’t have enough broken bullshit in his favor, thanks for proving me right!

  • JTSNOW6

    AN OTG IN SSF4AE, LOL!!

  • Scrixx

Yun has an OTG? Where’s his XFACTOR? Oh you mean it’s his super?

    Yun for UMvC3: Galactic Edition

  • xYourMasterx

HOLY SHIT!!! Daigo WILL be hitting this constantly at evo. What will we do? Wait, I’m not going to evo…

  • rebound

Jesus Christ, you guys have such a collective knee-jerk reaction, I’m surprised you don’t kick yourselves in the face more often. Yeah, this’ll work on everyone…

BUT ONLY IF Yun is hit before the second part of the target combo comes out. Calm the fuck down. It’s a funky thing in AE that requires a specific occurrence to happen.

    • PC Jona

      moves trade all the time

i dont see why this would be any different

unless its like a 1 frame thing

      • GuyWithNoHat

Yes moves trade all the time, but it usually happens by accident. In order for this to become a viable way to setup ultra 2 you would need a set up that makes the trade likely to happen. In the video it only worked because yun was mashing the ultra and got the roundhouse by accident and then kept on mashing for whatever reason. The fact that Desk was able to recreate the situation means that its possible to hit it continuosly if you expect it so your best bet would be an option select I guess.
And besides, its not like yun doesnt have a ton of ultra 1 setups, so why go the hard way if it can be so easy ?

        • Mooglesniperz

when desk said “recreate” im pretty sure he meant that he went into training mode and made the dummy do something at the specific time. I highly doubt he meant he created some frame trap out of this and did it online against everybody

  • Killer_Jigglypuff

I think they meant to add Yun to MvC3 and Hsien Ko to SSF4 AE and got their wires crossed somewhere.

    • leileilol

      Indeed

  • MaikkyWin

Just give it rain’s roundhouse kick thing and it will be balanced.

  • DeathandGrim

    I’m calling it

    Yun for UMVC3

  • Drakonvlast

I guess Seth could “stand up” to his kung fu

    dohoho

    • GamesPlayer

      lmao

    • xero15

wow I lmao to that. good one

  • Dander

antiheroforhire sure is an odd name.

Cool find. I think it’s even cooler that it was found on accident.

  • HASJ

If you are expecting the situation, it can become quite the option select.

  • TrollThisSRK

I’m SHOCKED that antiheroforhire cares about this game enough to upload videos of oddities. He’s probably the worst seth I’ve ever curbstomped on PSN.

Also this is only as useful as yuns sweep, which is not much, at all.

    • MrSoada

Absolutely no point in posting this.

      • Vaptor

        Agree

        • antiheroforhire

He’s kind of not lying at least when it came to (probably) have bodied me.

Basically: If you’ve versed me on PSN after AE dropped, and I picked Seth, I was using a stick.

My win % and BP with Seth before AE was released, was about 7000 / 78% (using a pad).

My win % in AE with Seth (solely after transitioning to a stick and only a stick) is something awful like 29%. I just decided to stick with Seth despite maining Guile/Blanka because of his vast repertoire of moves, and it’s better for applicable practice during a match. I can use Guile/Blanka probably “above average” on a stick, but using them (and continuing to use them) didn’t give me any practice with qct/qcb (x2) motions, dp, etc.

          • MrSoada

I just don’t understand why Troll is still allowed to post on this site. The way he goes about everything is so nonconstructive and negative. He isn’t trolling, he honestly hates life. Needs antidepressants and psycho-therapy.

          • TrollThisSRK

            Hater’s gonna hate

  • antiheroforhire

    @ Troll,

Aw man, don’t jump to conclusions. I’m actually a lot better than you think!

    a) I don’t actually main Seth, I main(ed) Guile/Blanka in AE and non-AE. I literally started using Seth just before AE was released.

    b) More importantly, I recently switched over to a stick (like two months ago), and everybody bodies me, but I’m determined to keep at ‘er until I get the hang of a stick down. My PP dropped from about 3900 -> 2900 making the switch in non-AE, and in AE. I haven’t been able to climb much higher than 1500 PP in AE, just because I lose so frequently as I’m just still not very proficient yet with a stick.

    • NaoHikari

Great find :D keep it up.

    • Vaptor

Don’t bother with that kind of troll. It’s a great find, mate. :D

      • antiheroforhire

        Thanks people. D:

    • Zmoney2006

Dude I am TOTALLY on the same page with you. I’ve been a pad player my entire life even after I started playing fighting games competitively (about 6 months now) and I JUST bought a fight stick about 3 weeks ago. IT is a HUGE transition that for some games is pretty easy to pick up (MVC3 for me) other games are just an absolute pain to get used to (Tekken 6, SFIV:AE which I literally just bought last night). Don’t stress it. Unless your in Japan where the network is so strong your bound to die from radiation poisoning 10 years in advance, online doesn’t mean crap anyway. Keep it up though. It’s heartening to see others out there dealing with the same transitions as myself.

  • Hollow

Not surprised, but I wanted to also point out the palm was focus while Seth was standing behind Yun…

    • TooItchy

that wasn’t palm, that was shoulder.

  • TooItchy

wow, it is a bad sign that when i watched this, i thought to myself “well that’s nothing strange, everything can cancel or OTG to ultra”….and then i remembered how street fighter works, and still wasn’t surprised, because it’s Yun. However, please don’t get it twisted, Yun still needs to be buffed as bad as ever.

    • MrSoada

      hahahaha OTG

  • nikito370

oh, i tought it was just the hittable property of a c.RK on counter-hit that had the oddity of displaying the grounded animation while linking into U1 due to frame difference.

  • fezaru

i wanna see desk .. what does he look like ??

  • Messatsu Orochi

would something like this work with ibuki?

    • Robofobe

Yes I’m pretty sure I’ve accidentally done sweep kazegiri with Ibuki. Should work with raida as well, but I think the other juggle moves are likely too slow.

  • Eric J

OTG’s, although less common, aren’t new to SF. This may also be possible with other people too.

  • DarkAdmiral

viper can combo into ultra if she trades her fierce punch with something light. And we all know how broken she is… -_-

    • TrollThisSRK

Actually top players see viper as one of the best in the game, easily top 10, and they’re very surprised her ultra wasn’t nerfed already…its pretty retarded.

    • xlxlxlxl

Viper can combo into ultra if she SJCs a crouching light kick.

  • Monokeros

Combo off a non-techable knockdown, SURE WHY NOT.

    What

    the

    what.

  • britepixel

    WTW…? lol

  • refuse2lose

Desk has posted a video showing that this IS broken, it’s not only ultra 2, you can dp, throw, command grab to combo to ultra, or just combo from normals.
