SSF4AE – Gen EX Hands Technology vs New Characters

leGENdary kiryu left the following in the video description (slightly nsfw);

“Gen’s s.MK, EX Hands loop terror continues in AE, but now vs some new opponents. Who are they you ask? Well.. Yang, Yun, Oni and Evil Ryu.

In Super, Capom originally removed the s.MK, Hands loop that was possible in Vanilla. But after researching and finding new technology, Gen players found that s.MK, EX Hands, s.MK, HP Hands worked on a few characters. Now it’s possible vs the new AE characters. So get that extra damage in and win some matches”

    Cool

  • BiGGDaddyCane

I still think Gen Should have gotten a little more Stamina in AE. At least like 50 so he could be at 950.

    • Substantial

The old ass man with a blood disease needs less stamina if anything.

      • Okame

In Japanese media, old men are often portrayed as being particularly powerful as a result of a lifetime of experience and training; whereas brash youngsters are often portrayed as strong but easily defeated by superior skills.

As evidence, take a look at every martial arts movie ever made featuring a Shao Lin master or an old monk. Hell, go watch “Karate Kid.”

If they were going to adjust Gen’s stamina at all, it probably would have been up.

        • bchan009

Well…in Japanese media old men are considered strong.

But anything involving Shaolin masters is generally a Chinese kung fu movie bro. ;) I would say it’s more an ASIAN media thing.

And don’t get me started on the filth that is early 90s American kung fu movies. =D Can’t compare to real deal Chinese movies.

No he does not need less health that would be stupid. at – 50 points he would need to have the mixup, damage, and wakeup options as akuma. In reality what Gen needs is a viable wakeup, a fix/buff to Mantis U2 mechanics, and preferably alpha style chains. At least in AE hes quite a bit better than in Super.

        • ruff0123

Gen does have a perfectly good wake up with LK DP. It’s 5 frame start up but Gen wakes up 1 frame faster so if the opponent’s safe jump isn’t perfectly timed, they’ll lose.

What I think you want is FADC to Ultra.

          • internetmemesftw

Lk gekiro is a decent wakeup, EX is better though, with more invincibility and a similar hitbox. Still loses/ trades to too much stuff tho.
Considering Capcom tried to make most classic chars like their older iterations (eg: 3s style makoto, twins, etc) it should only be fair that Gen can become more Alpha-like.
No what i want is ex oga invincibility back, like in Vanilla. I dont really care for FADC to Ultra, doesnt seem like something they would give to Gen anyway (too easy).

          • ruff0123

EX Gekiro as well as MK and HK is not a good wake up option because it’s 7 frame start up, anyone half decent will be able to safe jump Gen. LK Gekiro with his 1 frame faster wake up is the only thing that is keeping Gen from being freer than he is right now on wake up.

If Gen can FADC his Gekiro, his wake up option just went from worst to decent because Gen is one of the few (many?) character that have a shitty anti air and can’t FADC it. The opposite being a very good wake up anti air but can’t FADC it, I.E. Guy, Dee Jay.

    What ever happened to Yeb?

  • Aftermath1349

Yeb has been on XBL with Gen recently. Was watching some replays the other day. He’s not at the level he was at but that’s to be expected.

    • MTS

You can’t compare vanilla and AE gameplay like that. It’s simply not possible to do vanilla magic in AE.

      • tha messiah

well according to Yeb, Gen is WAY easier to play in AE than he was in Vanilla. Which made me laugh.

  • Good Game Player

    “technology” needs to stop

  • Majinhurricane

    gen is so fucking strong.

  • Eternal

Why is it called technology? It is techniques.

  • MuayGio

It’s called technology because it’s as much about knowledge as about execution skill. To me, “technique” implies something you’d have to really practice to get the hang of, even after you know it. “Technology” implies something along the lines of “Oh, I didn’t know you could link that vs. that character. I’ll keep that in mind and do it the next time”. It doesn’t necessarily imply that you’ll have to practice. I think it’s a good distinction, and worth keeping both terms around for.

    • Eternal

      Technique:

      # A way of carrying out a particular task, esp. the execution or performance of an artistic work or a scientific procedure

      # Skill or ability in a particular field

      * – he has excellent technique
      * – an established athlete with a very good technique

      # A skillful or efficient way of doing or achieving something

      * – tape recording is a good technique for evaluating our own communications

What is being shown is a combination of the first and third definitions of “technique” It being used in the noun and verb form. “You can use this technique against Yun”

      tech·nol·o·gy

      noun /tekˈnäləjē/
      technologies, plural

      1. The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, esp. in industry
      * – advances in computer technology
      * – recycling technologies

      2. Machinery and equipment developed from such scientific knowledge

      3. The branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences

However using any of the definitions for “technology” only the very first one barely applies. And that is only because of theory fighting through frame data.

      • internetmemesftw

Technique would refer to how this particular combo would be executed. If I choose to do this combo, my technique allows me to do so, it does not define what this knowledge is. I may use the “piano” technique or “slide” technique, but in the end, the practical application of such a combo is shown to be in fact “technology”. The video was created to show the application of such game mechanics, whether or not an individual has the technique or skill to do it is beyond the scope of the subject.
Think about it this way, this video exists for the purpose of showcasing such applications of a particular game mechanic. It is up to the player to decide how to accomplish such combo. That would be his/her technique. The video itself is technology.
Anyways…this is SRK, im sure you can find other forums to argue semantics. That being said, regardless of “technique” vs “technology”, the basis and teaching of the video stay the same, no? Hardly something to go textbook on…

  • Dur Da Dur

Wouldn’t call it so much as a loop as to a combo. The dive kick cross up is the only thing that ticks me off.

    • tha messiah

s.MK, Hands, s.MK Hands. Whether it’s a different version of the special. It’s still a loop. Not a infinite, but a loop.

    • tha messiah

Plus if you REALLY wanted to. you could FADC and repeat it. Kinda of a waste of meter, but EX hands combos using only 1 bar can be helpful combos.

  • Dur Da Dur

Just a combo. The dive kick cross up is the only thing that ticks me off.
