The Evo 2011 3rd Strike Invitational Event

Did you know that one of Evo 2011′s special events is an invitational tournament for Street Fighter III 3rd Strike? Read on to find out more about the event, and then head over to our application page to apply for participation.

Format: 5 Man Round Robin
Cost: Free to enter
Prizes: Bragging rights, Capcom swag, and representing Third Strike!

Help the fighting game world remember what turned so many players into 3rd Strike addicts by participating in this special invitational event.

Anyone is free to sign up, but only 5 people will ultimately be selected. Capcom staff, including original Third Strike director (and excellent 3S player) Neo_G, will help to hand-pick the final 5 players from amongst all the available entrants, as well as 2 alternates.

- If you’re a lesser known player and feel you deserve special consideration, feel free to send in videos demonstrating your skills with the sign-up form!

- Anyone who wants to participate must be willing to sign a release allowing Capcom to record, redistribute, sell, and generally do whatever they want with the match footage.

- You must be a registered Evo attendee in order to sign up.

      The PC version is not sponsored by Capcom because it is an hacked version; this version, however , a legitimate copy for the consoles. It’s a good business move, although, I would have much prefer a broader selection pool instead of 5 participates.

Good idea, but poorly executed. Unless SRK will make me eat my words (and I hope they do) all the people being mentioned by posters are going to be the only serious considerations for the 5 person lineup. Five bucks says the five people who are selected never even touch one of those forms to register lol.

Daigo will be there, Wong will be there. Their 2004 EVO moment is in the fucking game as a parry challenge it only makes sense that the two of them be in the “invitational”. This is being done on the side, which means discussions on the side by those running it about who will be these 5 people that I guarantee are already picked will be.

This would’ve been a GREAT way for EVO to truly step up and host a legit 3S tourney for everyone to jump in to celebrate the release of 3rd Strike yet again to online play. One more time for the road. Would’ve been nice. Whether you’ve only played the game for a day or for years, would’ve been a great way to rekindle some passion and possibly increase sales and hype for 3SO.

Over 1,000+ gamers show up and 20 or so get the special treatment and rightly so they’re the best at what they do. Take those other 1,000 lesser gamers out of the tourney however and it’s a pretty boring ass turnout.

Prove me wrong, SRK/EVO. Pick some of our guys off this site that give a legit reason why they should be in the 5 man invitational. That part in itself on the form seems like a fucking joke in that it probably won’t even be read. Let’s make a much more recognizable face for fighting games in general besides the same ol’ same ol’.

Inkblot threw down the supposed gauntlet of new talent/new faces but that shit is never gonna happen if the royal treatment keeps going to the same tourney people. Whatever happened to the player spotlights that used to be on the front page about “nobodies” that were actually good at the games they played? I don’t care for the “we need new blood” pep talks but “let’s keep the home page packed out with Tokido and Daigo articles”. Put some new faces in this invitational let’s have something different.
