Soul Calibur V Footage from G4

G4 has a really great article today, paired with two videos, that include a lot of Soul Calibur V content. They mention that game is in a very early stage before showing off some nice footage and interview content that fans shouldn’t miss. Read the full text on their site and check out the videos below.

    Better be sexy!

  • jellytooth

    UMMMMMMM that interpreter was annoying.

  • Master Chibi

They better keep Hilde in the damn game.

I don’t care if they nerf her to hell and back, but don’t be getting rid of the best pair of DSL’s I’ve ever seen in fighting game.

    • xStingy

Right on, brother.I thought I was the only one who EVER thought that.

  • Essence

Just to be clear, is the audience from 0:00 – 0:05 authentic or digital?

  • Windsagio

    Good, if self-evident take away:

‘The important thing about a fighting game is fighting the other player’

  • TNB

The guard impact apparently has become a 3s style parry, even including a blue flash. Combos are bigger. There are hit confirms into super. And supers in sc. This is simultaneously cool and troubling to me. What’s going to happen to nightmare this time? Will he be able to keep up, or will he have to go back to sc3 style (where he was apparently pretty fast and pretty up there in tier.)

  • Windsagio

A lot of discussion and dissection has been done on this.

    1) The blue/red parries are different from GI. Current best theory is they’re ‘ex’ style moves.
    2) It’s been said by the producer that there’s some triggering requirement for the Critical Edge’s beyond just having enough bar. He didn’t say of course what it is.
    3) We’re not seeing controlled fall being used, but there’s no sign that its removed, makes a big difference for juggles.
    4) A lot (A LOT) of talk about NM, since they’re going away from Zweihander Soul Edge, most popular theory I’ve heard Sophitimare.

  • Rhio2k

No, we don’t give a fuck about the “guest character” and we wish you guys would stop that shit.

    • rayplay

I “give a fuck” about the guest character.

  • Tooserius

    ^AGREED

    COSIGNED WITH Rhio2k!

  • Wantonx

Yea, they need to give that guest character shit a rest forever

  • Taito

eh, guest characters pay the bills, just like CAS and chronicles and other bullshit i don’t care about.

i think 3s style parrying makes more sense for resembling sword fight than momentum-stopping GIs, but the way the new moves look now is too cartoony, like a 2d fighter. hopefully they fix that, and gi isn’t gone completely

  • Taito

the front page needs an edit function

    • Windsagio

      Times a million.

  • LitoJ

Looking forward to the guest characters hnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

  • EVIL5150

Boyphitia looks lame-gaytarded. I don’t know if lighter and faster is good for Soul Calibur, part of the appeal is the perceived weight and momentum behind powerful moves. Only scrubs care about guest characters and create a character. I fear Namco has veered far off the path that made SCII such a great game

    • Razing Phoenix

But SC2 had my boy LINK! Even if you don’t like the guest characters, I don’t see what’s wrong with guest characters. They just have to make sense. Link was perfect, and Lloyd was a good idea. More tales characters as guests please.

      • Da Stunna

Link wasn’t even all that good in SC2 IIRC.

        • Windsagio

he had one of the best throws in the game tho :p

  • TrollThisSRK

Soul Calibur is DEFINITELY not a competitive game, but it doesn’t really fit the ‘party game’ description like smash does either. So what would you call it? A fanservice game?

“You like being a shiny anime character with big sword? Maybe Demon? Maybe big boob girl almost naked? This game for you”

    • Windsagio

so obvious, it’s in the name! :p

    • bojack13

I agree, I mean it has it’s own competitive scene and elements that were designed to make it competitive but I don’t take it seriously either so it’s *D*E*F*I*N*I*T*E*L*Y* (add echo effect) not a competitive game. Also ridiculously voluptuous females in non-combat attire automatically makes any fighter a non-competitive ‘joke game’. Sorry SSF4 and MvC3, you were so close!

Also, trolling for angry responses is coooooool!

      • TrollThisSRK

Oh I’m sorry, you’re right. Its totally a competitive game to be taken seriously. Thats why Soul Calibur has had such impressive showings at major tournaments. Remember how epic the SC finals were at EVO? Remember when all the elite fighting game players in the world picked up Soul Calibur? Yea that was awesome.

Your argument is terrible and you dont have a leg to stand on. Fanservice doesn’t break a game, but it doesn’t make it either.

You’re trying to argue that SC is a competitive game and accusing ~ME~ of trolling?

  • Robo-mitsu

‘Faster and lighter’? It’s hard to imagine Soul Calibur being even more fast and light.

  • Sleazoid

“sometime between january and june next year” very specific time frame they’ve got there

  • Travis Epic

Soul Calibur II was pretty fast compared to 3 and 4 IMHO I think that is what they are going for. Also I believe the “Super Moves” are just a spin on the old Unblockable Fire Style attacks.

  • Cyric

Awww. Mid next year is a long wait. Cant wait to create some smexy stripper-esque fighting girls.
I hope Ivys outfit is more revealing this time too.

  • Limiter

strange that none complained about Cammy’s outfit.

    • Malevolencia

You don’t hear complaints about Cammy or about any other female in any fighting game. The women in MK look like men with tits and no one cares. Even DOA doesn’t get this much hate from internet trolls. But people like to rag on SC because of a couple of women in the game with big tits. Big woop.

      But whatever, keep on hating.

      • YanDaMan

I think most of the hate are due to the fact that you can literally strip the women in SC4, lol.
