MK9 – Ermac Breakdown and Tutorial

MK9Online’s latest episode is a tutorial and breakdown on the Mortal Kombat character called Ermac. It goes over his pros and cons, before detailing his most important combos, mixups, and strategies.

  • Two Up

Makes me wonder if this tutorial was made on day 1 or something. You always block low because medium attacks tend to be slow giving you more time to react to them. How is the levitate a con? It’s unblockable if you just smash the ground. Ermac’s con would be being open to attack after using his green moves which pretty much don’t have any starting frames and have a ton of range for good combo damage.

LOL’d at the end! there are so many ragequitters among the MK players!

  • Sibuna Alucard

you’re missing so much, like being able to mixup his push, if you TKP successful you’re left with two options to keep them guessing, continue by zoning, or teleport right after to grab him and launch him closer towards the corner..which brings to another good thing about ermac…

When you’re opponent is at the corner Ermac will have a person in either hesitation, guessing, or panicing. Folks with teleports when they are in the corner bait it out of them and block and counter with your TKL and combo to where h’es back in the corner again…another option while in the corner is his up+4 it can still hit a person off the ground if they lay there and if they block high they’ll get hit by it…mix that up with sweeping, focus attack, or throw them back to the corner. Ermac’s corner game is just as nasty as his zoning game

How can a move be a con? If you cant use it … just dont use it.

  • LitoJ

Man looking at the thumbnail- I really miss Ermac’s Deception costume primary.

  • Inphinite

My #1 problem with MK: X-Ray attack inputs are entirely too simple. Something that takes 30-40% health should require more than two buttons to pull off. Fatalities on the other hand, which have absolutely no bearing on the match itself, require all kinds of shenanigans to activate. Whoever thought that shit up needs to be smacked.

    • Levaranoia

I highly disagree with you on that. There is absolutely no reason for complicated motions for doing the xray. I hated that deejay had a retarded motion for his ultra 2 in ssf4 and made it almost completely uses.

    • Jaybonaut

It requires 3 if you use a stick, but are you saying ultras and supers are hard in SF4 and MvC3?

      • Iceman3026

lol mvc3 supers hard? lol. sf4 some are hard just takes time. but with x ray being two buttons means their is no way it can come out by mistake and when you want it to come out it happens on the spot.

    • Shadowfire

Are you kidding? Since when has input complexity EVER been an effective way to balance a mechanic?

Also I don’t think you’ve even played MK if you’re calling the X-rays too easy to land (most of the time people forego them for more breakers).

Whoever thought that requiring people to wiggle around their controller in obtuse ways DURING a match to perform moves everyone is supposed to have access to needs to be smacked.

I don’t really use Ermac… i had to learn a little for one of the challenges… but this was also a good video to watch just to know how to better fight an ermac player. I’m still trying to figure out the best of my mains against him but this did help. Some people online make it very difficult to get close and I primarily main Nightwolf. and they spam a certain combo… you can guess which one. He did miss a few very nice combos but I don’t think this was meant to be an “advanced” video but more intermediate. at least that’s the vibe i’ve been getting from the others.

  • Togakure Ninja

This showed me a few more things I can do with my Ermac. One step closer to my Kenshi/Ermac team up.

  • Duneboo

Its true, Sizzlinpapaya. The guide’s aren’t made to be an end-all-be-all to the characters. They’re design to feed you the most important things about a character so you can pick it up and play it without too much digging. At the same time we make them so that they’re enjoyable to watch and actually hold people’s attention. I could do a video where I just sit in training mode, talk about every single detail but it would be REALLY boring. :)

The tutorial video was really helpful. I applied the ~40-45% combos I learned in online matches, and actually pulled them off. I didn’t know his f + 4 hits low at first, so I’ve been incorporating that into my Ermac game as well.
