How to Hit Box – Lesson 2 (Quarter Circle Motions)

(nsfw) The next installment in the “How to Hit Box” video series is a short one. In it, the creators teach you how to perform a quarter-circle motion on the joystickless arcade stick. Anyone who has played on a keyboard in the past can tell that it isn’t difficult at all.

Also, be sure to take a look at the bonus content below (including an interview with 8-year-old hitbox prodigy Noah, a MODOK clip, and a Dante BnB).

  • bitkid

Someone needs to make a video of rapid fire seismos using a hit box.

    • GM Dak

fwd, dn roll to fwd, roll to up, dn roll to fwd, roll to up, it’s the same as the fireball motion but with an extra roll onto the jump button for the tiger knee.

      • bitkid

I know what the input is, I just think that with a HitBox someone would be able to do the rapid seismo inputs very precisely and probably at max speed.

Chrisis has also detailed some incredibly execution intensive methods for rapid seismo FADC inputs, which will negate Advancing Guard , leaving the opponent in infinite block-stun. I’ll see if I can find the post but the inputs are a lot more awkward than typical rapid seismos.

  • phantasy

I love these videos! Cool stuff.

  • APC

is it really good? I mean, i looks wierd jumping using my thumb. Don’t get me wrong, i use the keyboard, but i use W,A,S and D to move.

    • tempbast

try switching jump to space bar. that should mimic the hitbox a bit more.

  • AmigoOne

i honestly would consider this if it didnt force my hands cramped together with the jump button. Also the ring finger directional button should curve lower. The whole left handed setup looks like it would force your left hand in an awkward slightly twisted left position when in neutral

    • JohnGrimm

Are your hands cramped when you type? Because your keyboard keys are a lot smaller than our buttons. It’s no worse than putting your hands on the home row with both thumbs on space bar. The design is completely ergonomic, there’s nothing awkward or cramped about it.

      • AmigoOne

Yea but the thing is that I play with my right thumb on lk, so….

  • INVIZOBLE

yes i wanna see seismo chains with viper on this bad body.

  • Cibernetico

Does anyone know if they make these but with Happ Competition buttons?

    • JohnGrimm

      No, we don’t do that.

      • Cibernetico

Would you guys do them if special ordered or are you only dedicated to doing Japanese buttons only right now?

        • JohnGrimm

We personally feel that for the maximum quality and performance for our product only the most sensitive microswitches are acceptable. We might do custom orders later on in our career, but for now we have one stock design.

  • NyuBomber

Teach me how to Hit Box
Teach me, teach me how to Hit Box

    E’erybody Hit Box
    E’ery, E’erybody Hit Box

  • The Bucket Of Truth

i feel sorry for that 8yr old child being exploited by that fat asian man. the kid just wants to play

  • Koatl

In Tekken I’ve seen impeccably clean and consistent wave-dashing, back-dash-cancelling and shogun stepping with these Hit Boxes.

  • baritsu

Great interview…NOT! It’s cool though guys I like what you do

  • El_Maiz

Modok can grab people through his shields?
    Daang. That’s amazing.

  • Ianskie

shoutouts to Noah and the Qually crew, some of the nicest folks I’ve met.

  • oOSnowMan

This is really cool and I’d like to try it, but I don’t see them being legal seeing how you can block both ways on them so easily.

    • JohnGrimm

You haven’t been able to do that on our product for months now. Hit Box isn’t banned in any informed tourneys.

  • APC

ok i just have test the jump button with my thumb on my keyboard and it’s really good. The question is, how can i buy one of those HitBox if i’m not in USA?

    • JohnGrimm

We ship worldwide. The price of shipping will add to the price, but if you don’t mind we will send it to you no problem.

      • xStingy

Oh, I was waiting for that to be answered. I’ll check the shipping price to the UK I guess…

  • Chun Pai

yep until capcom and others fix the ability to block on both sides in their games these devices will always have a black mark on them and thus the players that use them.

    • tempbast

No, no, no. They designed their hitbox so that Left and Right cannot be activated at the same time. So if you press and hold Left then press and hold Right then your character will just stand neutral.
      Left + Right = Neutral.

I believe it’s the same with Up and Down.
      Up + Down = Neutral

  • Katt

The more I see these the more interesting they look. Will you guys have set ups at Evo to try these out? I will love test one. I might be sold already.

    • JohnGrimm

At the very least there will definitely be Hit Boxes floating around EVO, so you’ll more than likely get a chance to try one out.

  • KJunk

this is really cool, i like innovation for peripherals. i’m hoping to try one out sometime soon

  • Cavernas

will buying a hitbox make me that god with MODOK? cause that was pretty cool.
Either way, i really want one, i feel that if this gets popular it could be the future for fighting game controllers.

  • tempbast

I believe the hitbox will give the 3rd strike players the edge in parries.

  • Midersaw

Will these be available to demo at PAX Prime?

  • xvynx

how much would one of these cost shipped to mexico city

  • Glennfinito

    That M.O.D.O.K. stuff was sick.
    I want a hitbox now.

just seen one at frank and sons for 120

  • BentoBox

Bearing the current wait times in mind, how long would one have to wait before getting a stick?

  • kerano1

Had a quick look on the site but couldn’t see pricing information, also looking for a rough idea on the wait time?

  • fighting game fan

    wow

  • fighting game fan

guys just talken and the kid ignores him thats funny

    • factory9

The kid is actually responding to him, he’s just really fucking quiet.

      • b3nz0r

That or the dude is playing a match. I don’t know about you guys but when I’m in a match I don’t really want someone chatting me up.

Also, yes, he was very quiet.

  • DJBeatMongrel

I really think my next stick will be a hitbox. partly to learn on and partly for the novelty

  • Karlito504

Fun With MODOK is the best thing i’ve seen all week. love that barrier/grab setup

  • The Big B

Its awesome seeing youths play games like Street Fighter, cool new generation :)

  • PAO

I’ve been wanting one of these for ages. Since i first saw it on shoryuken months ago. When i saw it i thought it was the most amazing thing in the world. When i obtain the money i will get this. so maybe in a few months. Theres a vicious video of someone performing a standing 720 with one of these awhile back.
The hitbox will be my first stick.

    • z0sum

      The hitbox isn’t a stick… it’s a hitbox, lol.

  • Windsagio
