the character design is kind of anime and i cant deny i’d prefer if they went in a different direction, but it’s definitely not pedo and it’s definitely much more creative than any japanese anime game. plus the system is really interesting and mike z actually remembers how fun old games were so he isnt going to turn it into a slow boring nerffest like sf4, blazblue, mvc3, etc

This definitely isn’t on the same level of pedophilia as AH. The art style is very animeish but the girls are clearly of a respectable age unlike AH. Well Peacock seems kind of young but she’s dressed more then conservatively, so it’s fine by me. Anyway I’ll be watching this reveal tonight.

I don’t understand why everybody is complaining about this game being “too anime”. I mean, obviously nobody on SRK watches anime if they’re complaining about it this much, but sometimes I wonder if they’ve ever even seen anime.

One of the things I love about Skullgirls is that its character and art designs borrow very heavily from several different popular animation styles from around the world. There’s the Japanese anime influence there, there’s also some Chinese influence, and a lot of 60s-80s American and French styles blended in there as well, espescially on characters like Parasoul and Peacock.

By this logic, Street Fighter has always been “too anime”. Yes, I said it. Stay free, SRK. Stay free.

I appreciate that the art in this game has a Western edge but I’d have much preferred it if it didnt have any anime influence at all.

It’s hard as a FG to be outside the realm of Some Anime influence. However this game shows more than that, with influeces from many forms of animation and or comic art. The girls don’t appear underage, any less than Sakura,Karin,LiLi, or nay number of girls in video games. Does that make this a pedo game……no. Big ups to Mike and the whole SG design team. they have put soooo much effort and love into this project, I for one am tired of 2.5D Cell shaded,Easy Motion,X-Factor Come Back,Ultra Combo Revenge gauge come back, fighters. I play Capcom games, but nothing beats a real 2 D hand drawn master piece, That Capcom used to be proud to make. I hope other companies get back to 2D, the oooow wow 3D era is just about over.

I can barely stomach Arcana because of it’s Japanese pedophilia-like art direction on an all chick roster, the majority of which aren’t legal to touch in the states (well most of the states). But this is looking more and more interesting and definitely more playable. And I don’t have to be flashed with the crotch of a 12 year girl old every time I press an attack button, which is gut wrenching for someone who has daughters.

So I’ve read this whole thread, and I honestly don’t see what the problem is. Everyone’s talking about how Anime the designs are, when it looks to me more like Saturday Morning US Cartoons from the Popeye days. A smoother PowerPuff Girls if you will. And why are you all focusing on how the girls look when one of them has freaking Yellow Devil arms on her head? That’s the only thing I really saw when the gameplay was rolling. Ignoring the namesake of the creator, the gameplay engine itself is looking pretty darned legit. Kind of like Melty Blood with a bit of Super Gem Fighters thrown in in terms of its “feel”.

I’m most likely not gunna end up getting it what with KOF XIII, Resident Evil and all the other stuff imma be buying soon, but it looks like a fairly well done game. The complaints are just foolishness.

Also, I reeeeally hope there’s a mode where you can fight with characters in that pencil/paper art format that was shown with the new chick. That would be EPIC.

Also, all this talk of Arcana Heart made me look it up. It’s about 35% Women, 35% Teens and 28% lolis and 2% male. And from what I’ve seen, everything that isn’t a woman is accompanied with or is a Demon, Angel, Monster, Witch, Beast, Amorphous Sentient Moving Sphere of Water, ninja, or Robot. It’s not too bad during gameplay, but the artwork (Win Portraits, etc.) is hoooooooorribly loli all around. It isn’t too bad tho.

There’s a Touhou fighting game out there somewhere. THAT is the apex of loli fighter and I hate it. Not so much because its a loli fighter than the fact that I HATE small hitbox characters. But still, too much loli in that one.

All in all tho, ppl here need to stop bitchin about stuff like Skullgirls. It isnt a bad game, especially compared to the other stuff out there.

All this AH3 hate in a thread for a totally different game…
I play AH3 it is tons of fun and the combo system allows for more freedom and originality than any game I have ever played.

However I can pretty easily see how the absurd amount of “fanservice” and lolis could turn someone away from that game.

Saying that Skullgirls looks like AH3 is ridiculous though.

I am really hoping this game is as awesome as it looks in the trailers, and I can’t wait for it to be released.

Excactly my point, the people who play play stuff like that don’t even think much of it because they aren’t rediculously self-concious about maybe appearing as a lolicon. Getting back to the topic of the new character I’d like to put my 2 cents in and say that parsoul’s design is a little not what I was expecting. I was thinking more like an english chick where a 1800s bustle dress, parasol weapon, and frilly stuff all over, I cant remember what they call that style, someone help me here. Of course this isn’t the finished product, for now she just looks like a secret agent who may work for the vatican
