Namco Teams Up with EVO to Bring TTT2, Exclusive SC5 Content and More Cash to the Pot!

Today, we’re pleased to announce that Namco, creators of unforgettable fighting game franchises like Tekken and Soul Calibur, will be straight up be bringing the HEAT to this year’s EVO Championship event in Las Vegas.

To kick off, Namco is bringing hardware to the Rio to showcase the latest build of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. That’s right – if you’re attending Evo, you’ll have full access to try out 2011’s successor to the original tag-team smash hit that debuted over 10 years ago in big, beautiful, full-sized Japanese arcade machines.

Also joining the ride will be key members from the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 team as well as the “Project Soul” team heading up the development of Soul Calibur 5, and they’ll be on hand to discuss the latest and answer any questions you may have about these two highly anticipated games. Oh, and as an added bonus, they’ll be bringing EXCLUSIVE Soul Calibur 5 content that hasn’t been ever been seen in public – not even at E3 or Comic Con! (Soul Calibur fans, you will NOT want to miss this.)

Now, down to business. Namco knows EVO is THE spot for the world’s best Tekken players to compete for a chance at cash and glory, so they’ve upped the ante for all you Mishima heads out there. This year, they’ll be throwing an extra $5,000 cash into the pot, raising the stakes higher than ever. And because of this, we’ve decided to add Tekken 6 into the EVO Tournament Season officially, meaning that you’ll earn points if you place at the upcoming NorCal Regionals tournament and East Coast Throwdown 3 or if you placed at last weeks’ CEO tournament.

So, to wrap up: $5,000 added to the Tekken pot. Playable Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on site. Exclusive Soul Calibur 5 content. How can you beat that?

You can’t.

  • Goyahitaro

yeah regardless of what you think of tekken as a game filthie and harada san just do soo much right

  • hobb1t

ttt2 will be good nothing to worry about on that front. Socal 5 on the other hand is iffy at best seems like CAFs have been more important then core game play, heres hoping thats changed

  • Konqrr

I regret not keeping up with Tekken now ;_; Can’t wait for TTT2 though.

  • JayAlanCarter

great to see support from developers

  • SmoZzLeR

I was going to hit up the BYOC section but after this news all I’m going to be doing is lining up to play TTT2.

  • mothugs

    Time to finally learn tekken…

  • BigMovement

    Great Game Great Community

  • The_Third

Wait a minute…I just need a clarification. TTT2 arcade WILL be out in the US right? From what I have read in a post in TZ, only select asian and nearby countries are getting the arcade version.

    • FlyingWonkey

Correct. Both Aris and Rip have confirmed with Harada and Murrey that the game will not be released in the US. I believe a number of factors came into this like US’ arcade scene ‘dying’ and banapass cards which use the internet to collect player data which is stored in Asia. So latency was another issue.

Oh well the Tekken crew have announced a lot of goodies at E3 to hopefully tide you guys over until the game releases on consoles next year.

    $5,000? Now that’s a spicy meatball!

  • skipperxyz

    horrible news for ttt2

  • akumous

Namco fighting games such as Tekken and Soul Calibur should always be considered for EVO because while Capcom was on hiatus Namco kept the fighting genre alive.

  • Kream

At CEO Jebailey noted Tekken being added to Evo and that there were points being awarded for top placements at CEO.

  • Razing Phoenix

Namco would be the number one video game company, if they would just localize the PS3 version of ToV and ToGf. I want Tales of Xillia too. But you gotta give credit where credit is due, and Namco does work when it comes to the Tekken Franchise.

    • Streye

I think ToV is a pipe dream now. If they haven’t done it yet, there’s some contract binding them or they just don’t care at this point. I gave up and just imported it since I’m used to playing games with a dictionary anyway.

  • AriesWarlock

Exclusive Soul Calibur V content? What is it? Please, tell me!!

  • Jandek

    that is awesome!
Love to see Tekken finally getting some spotlight.
I sense Koreans being drawn out by this news…

  • Freebyrd

Dammit! Namco building hype for two of the most underrated fighting games and SEGA still doesn’t wanna port VF5:FS!!! C’mon SEGA, show everyone who the real king of 3d fighters is!

  • Diernes

Anyone how doesn’t like fucking TEKKEN is honestly, a raging homosexual. Namco were keeping it real long after capcom had completely abandoned fighting games all together. This company is responsible for two of the most balanced and in depth fighting games of all time, and they deserve to be in the spotlight of tournament events like Evolution if you wish to legitimize the sport. There i said it. … Stop hating and except because the tekken characters will be stomping face in 2012. (street fighting face….)

  • metaphist

Damn, I’m outa the loop. I had just taken for granted that Tekken would be at EVO. You’re telling me they just now decided to do this? You’re telling me developers themselves had to pull a few strings to get their game into EVO? :O – That, my friends, is progress.

And shame on EVO for having having Tekken in the first place.

    • raymk

You didn’t want tekken at evo so let me guess, you wanted all sf games?

      • metaphist

Whoops, I totally meant to type “for NOT having Tekken…”

        Lemme edit that :O

  • 1iquid5nake

    TTT2 and SFXT?

  • bojack13

The same few characters that always win these tournaments will be winning Evo, there’s nothing special about that. It’s not like Cammy or El Fuerte’s gonna win SF4, Lei or Christy’s gonna win Tekken, etc. The only thing that matters is the new SC5 info.

  • devastator

Will we be able to get our hands in TTT2 even if we aren’t registered for Evo?
